FRAUD
If I could give them a negative 1000 I would. We had a term life policy that ran for 10 years. Without written consent they continued the policy at the new premium 800% higher. No written consent on our part. But to cancel we had to have a document signed and notarized. Absolute FRAUD. We asked for our money back they absolutely couldn’t do that.

It is a fantastic company. I have always felt that they would have my back, haven't used it in more than 20 years but they are a very high quality and fair company
It is a fantastic company.

Don’t care about their customers
Communication? 0. Speed? 0. Customer service? 1. Claims is only open until 4 cst. Hold time over an hour only to be disconnected. Life insurance. Lost my dad 6 weeks ago. Filed claim right after. Not one phone call, email or letter. Incontestable policy. I have to call most everyday to be told nothing. Now today they said 4 more weeks! People need that money when the main provider passes away. Horrible to deal with while grieving. Cold customer service towards hurting family.

Didn’t even want to give one star but…
Didn’t even want to give one star but anyways, this company is horrible. They do not want to pay out. They make it extremely difficult for you to get your money for disabilty that we pay into. I do not understand why a company would use New York Life.

Unacceptable
I sent in a copy of the POA for my mother so I could discuss her account. They told me it would take 7-10 days to be applied once they received it. They then sent me a letter that I was now the POA for the account, but the account listed was not even my mothers! It is a strangers account that I am now POA for. Seems like a big security breach to me. I don't even know these people. I would have called NYL to tell them about it, but they were so rude the last time I called that I will skip it.

Approves SDI claims without ANY$ to customers!
The short-term disability that they offer in California will never pay out. Do not pay them any money for short-term disability in California because even if they say they cover 100% of your pre-disability income (minus any bonuses of course. In fact they don't cover any of it if you also have CA SDI! There enrollment paperwork is deceptive and does not represent what New York Life actually does for you which is nothing. Apparently 100% to them is really 60% to the rest of the world and since California state disability pays 60% they won't pay you anything. FYI total scam company do not give them any money!

I had a very frustrating experience…
I had a very frustrating experience with New York Life. After canceling my policy, I was told I would receive a refund, but I only received part of it and never got the rest. I called multiple times and spoke with the surrender team and solutions department, but nobody wanted to take responsibility or help resolve the issue. To make matters worse, my agent stopped responding to me and completely ghosted me.I trusted New York Life with my money, but instead I feel like I was misled and ignored. A company of this size should have much better accountability and customer service. I am still waiting for the remainder of my refund and for someone to take this situation seriously.

Their website claims "quick decisions"…
Their website claims "quick decisions" on disability claims. They only quick decision here is a quick decision not to make a decision. I filed my claim last July. It is now April, and still no decision has been made- or at least made public. The only way to get anything done with this company is to hire an attorney. If you have a claim with them, hire an attorney sooner, not later- the attorney will take 1/3 of anything you get, so the longer you wait the more it costs you. I started with perfect credit (800+) and no debt. I'm now broke, 30k in credit debt for living expenses that I cannot pay back, and losing my house. My kid and I will be homeless by Summer. Thanks for the help, NY Life!

They allow their chat reps to disconnect on their customers
My company just switched from Prudential to NYL. We’ve only used them for two weeks and their customer service has been HORRIBLE to work with. I’m having a baby any day and no one is clear on what needs to be done for my short term disability no matter how many times I chat or call. But the worst part of the entire experience is that they openly admitted they allow their chat reps to hang up on you if you ask too many questions! On 1/17 I live chatted with Gwynda C who rudely disconnected on me. I live chatted again and was told by Kerry Y that “if there is back and forth regarding a claim, we can disconnect the chat. The supervisors are aware of that as well.” There was back and forth because she was incompetent to answer my questions, and yet you allow your chatters to do this?I called in to ask for a supervisor, was told they have no idea who the chat supervisor is, and that I would get a call back later in the day. Surprisingly…I never got a call back. I have to continue to contact my HR at work since there is nothing else I can do to get a clear answer on how to get my short term disability payout. While Prudential did take a long time to pay out their claims, their process was clear and their customer service was 100% better. I would NEVER suggest any company use NYL for their employees.

Wasted Time
I feel like the motto at New York Life Insurance company is "Prolong the process for as long as you can, so we can pay out as little as we can. If possible, don't pay them at all. That's a win for us!"Don't use New York Life Insurance company. They don't want to actually help you. This business doesn't care about your medical issues or grief.

NY Life insurance is a joke!
I am beyond disappointed with NY Life Disability Insurance’s handling of my father’s claim. My father, a 66-year-old man who has suffered two strokes and continues to face serious health challenges, was shockingly denied long-term disability coverage. The company claims he is fit to work based on his heart rate alone, ignoring his high blood pressure, stroke history, and the risks associated with stress. Our family doctor, who conducts full blood work on him every three months, recommended a two-year break from work to avoid further health complications. She is baffled by NY Life's decision, as are we. The lack of consideration for his overall health and the doctor's professional opinion is not only baffling but utterly irresponsible. This company seems more interested in finding excuses to deny claims than in providing the support they promise. I trusted NY Life to be there for us in difficult times, but they have shown a complete disregard for my father's well-being. If you're looking for an insurance provider that actually cares about its clients, I would strongly advise looking elsewhere.

Please do your homework before signing up with New York life insurance. They are very incompetent.
Here's a structured review you can use based on your experience with New York Life Insurance:---**Title: Extremely Frustrating Experience with New York Life Insurance**I opened a Short Term Disability claim with New York Life on July 1, 2024, and my experience has been nothing short of disappointing. Despite submitting all required medical paperwork, including documentation from my therapist, I have yet to receive any compensation.- **Lack of Communication:** I’ve been in constant contact with their customer service, calling every day, but the only response I receive is that my claim is "under review." I've not spoken with my case manager for over two months, and each representative I talk to gives me the same vague updates.- **Consistent Delays:** They continue to say they need "more clarification" regarding my diagnosis, which is incredibly frustrating. I feel overwhelmed as this ongoing situation forces me to focus on dealing with New York Life instead of prioritizing my mental health.- **Poor Customer Support:** It’s disheartening to know that when I request a call back, I never hear from my case manager. Feeling ignored and unimportant during such a critical time adds to my frustration.- **Impact on Financial Situation:** Due to this delay in compensation, I’m now struggling to pay my bills, which are past due. This has caused me additional stress during an already difficult time.Overall, I'm extremely disappointed with New York Life’s handling of my claim. I expected better support and timely responses, but instead, I feel trapped in a process that’s only adding to my distress. I hope they can improve their communication and support for future clients in crisis. I would not recommend New York life to my worst enemy.

The billing department are the most…
The billing department are the most difficult to work with. If a client is making a payment, just take it. Their customer service too can't speak clearly, I have to ask them to repeat what they are saying. NYLIC - you are earning so much from us, why don't you change your billing instructions, be more flexible in taking payment and get some decent and knowledgable customer personnel who can speak clearly. Your billing service and customer service really sucks!

This company does not deserve one star.
This company does not deserve one star.I applied for STD back on 11/07/2023. It is now 01/25/2024 and I have not received my payment. They went back and forth for months with my doctor for paper work. I’ve only spoke with my case manager one time and that was when I filled. From then on, she’s (Mekinzie) is never available. They will not give you last names, is way what the representative said. I call everyday and get the same thing, “I put in a request for your case manager to call you back,” and I never get a call back. They are working on it. You can’t even well because of the added stress they cause. I have disconnection notices for non payment of my utilities and this is ridiculous. I was approved and they owe me back pay from 11/2023 and I have not received one payment. I’m beyond frustrated and something really needs to be done about how they handle things.

Claim likely denied and significant hassle
If you have group disability insurance through work and find yourself in need of it, BEWARE. You, and your poor doctors will be bombarded with forms and requests over and over again. They will claim not to receive documents, completely ignore things you say, dates will change on stuff you upload to their portal and of course it will be basically impossible to speak to anyone. They don't email because then you'd have evidence of their lies and shady. So anyone thinking of disability insurance, keep in mind that there is a good chance it will not actually be there when you need it and for certain the process will be beyond frustrating.I can say for sure this the worst company, if you can even call them that, that I have ever dealt with, and yes that includes the famous offenders comcast or verizon (random charges/fees anyone??) lolJust wait until you see how they twist and bend a simple thing like "you are considered disabled if you cannot perform your own occupation." Seem simple on paper, but they will pick it apart to the n'th degree. Like ok, you have a broken leg and had several surgery but like why does that prevent you from working.... like seriously, um maybe because the leg is broken.... and your doctors essentially become secretary to document your day to day life and issues to work

Disability insurance
Applied for long term disability insurance just to protect my PRN income for a while until I could consider full retirement. After being completely transparent about my health and providing every piece of PI imaginable, was told my premium would be twice what was quoted in the beginning. Just fyi, I recently was approved for a 10 year, 250k life policy by a very reputable insurer for almost the same cost. To all potential applicants, be prepared for a long and frustrating process with this company. Good luck!
