Key City Compost is a great composting solution if you don't have municipal curbside service. It's affordable, reliable and easy to manage. I always had enough space in the weekly bucket for all my food waste and they offer processed compost for your garden if you want it. Using the service also helps reduce waste going into the trash and avoid garbage smells. Highly recommend.
We greatly appreciated having this service available to us and help keep compostable items out of the landfill. Key compost made it so easy. They were meticulous at picking up and dropping off the clean bucket as scheduled. They also offered email reminders the night before as well as reminders for date changes on holidays, etc. Thank you for the great service!

Very convenient way to compost. We used the service in our home for about 6 months before moving. It was such an easy way to divert waste from the landfill either from our kitchen or takeout that we didn't finish.

Despite receiving a text reminder that my scheduled pick up was yesterday, pick up never happened. A neighbor’s was not picked up either. Although their phone message says to use the app to ensure a prompt response, that has not happened. I left 2 messages in the app and one on the phone asking when pick up would take place and if I should leave my pail at the curb. I have more compost in the house awaiting a new pail. Although still a new customer, I had been pleased, but must say that customer support is lacking. I finally heard back. As a small company with short staff, several drivers called in sick. Understandable! She agreed that they need to take steps to better communicate should something like this happen again. I look forward to those improvements as composting is so important.

Great service! Never had any issue with pickups or getting compost. Pickup buckets are sturdy and seal air tight.
We are moving away. Leaving this composting service behind is unfortunate for many reasons. First, it is simple, and free for folks living in downtown Frederick. Second, we got a bag of finished compost this fall, which we used to supplement our many street-side planters. Third, I get a feeling of great happiness to see so many white five-gallon containers out on front steps and porches on pickup day. I feel that I’m part of a great community. Fourth, the composting service has improved our weekly curbside trash collection. It’s all of a piece with the colorful boats on the creek in the winter and the festivals in town throughout the year. It’s a piece of the whole that contributes to a wonderful, inviting community. Who wouldn’t want to live in Frederick?
Hi -- This is a revision of my earlier 5-star review. I have been frustrated with communication with the company and driver since I cancelled my service. Maybe be innocent miscommunication but was an ongoing annoyance nonetheless. Otherwise, service was great!
Company is easy to work with and clearly communicates for pick ups, drop offs, etc.
Long time customer (3 years). I really love the convenience of this service and knowing my food waste isn't buried in a landfill. It's easy. Place your bucket outside your door for pick up and get a clean bucket in return.
Love this service! We signed up for weekly pickup and it always happened on schedule for more than a year. It was so nice to get a clean bin. Other compost bins that aren’t swapped out get so smelly and gross at the bottom. Highly recommend if you can afford the cost!

We signed up initially for bi-monthly pick ups and paid a year in advance, but it didn’t take long to realize this vegan family of 5 needed the weekly option. I messaged them and they let me pay the difference to make it happen. My interactions with the delivery/pickup driver were always brief, but pleasant. They’re doing great work and I’m happy with the service they have provided me.
