Disrespectful tone (revise)

Update: Since posting my original review, SteelMaster’s team, including the general sales manager, has been consistently professional and responsive. They took my complaint seriously, asked for the details, and focused on fixing the experience instead of arguing about it. After that, they supported my evaluation process exactly the way a customer expects: clear answers, patience with my questions, and help comparing options so I can decide what is right for my project.I’m not writing this to “walk back” what happened on the first call. I’m writing it because the follow up has been strong enough to change my perspective about how the company operates when an issue is escalated. As a business owner, I value how a company responds when something goes wrong, and in my case they handled it the right way.Original review==========Scheduled sales call on January 20, 2026 at 10:00 AM about a Quonset style building kit. Early in the call I was asked for my budget. I explained I’m comparing systems and don’t have a specific budget number yet. The representative replied: “Oh, so you must have all the financial resources in the world for this project.” I ended the call due to the disrespectful tone. I can’t comment on the product because we never got to specs, engineering, or itemized pricing, but the professionalism on the call was not acceptable.

We purchased a SteelMaster arch style…

We purchased a SteelMaster arch style building recently and were very pleased with their price, answering our questions and getting back to us right away without and high pressure sales tactics. They were very good to work with and we look forward to erecting our 30 x 40 foot Q style building this coming summer.

Excellent buying experience…

I found the buying experience fantastic. I was fortunate to have Travis Ashley and we was very helpful with design, sidewalls, anchor bolts, deliveries. Just a great experience and the building quality is excellent.

Horrible experience

Horrible experience. Stole over $7,000 from me. Stay away, there are many better options than this high pressure, low service company. The tactics they use are to high pressure you into signing a contract with some bait like "I have room on a truck so I can get you free shipping if you sign today". Then they will overnight generic "engineering drawings" in order to fulfill the legality of a contract by an exchange of goods. It's a very well designed program to pressure you into purchasing and prevent cancelation. Immoral and unscrupulous. You've now been warned.

Do not buy anything from this crooks!

Do not buy anything from this crooks! All they care is how to lock you in and get your credit card info as soon as possible to collect the deposit. But they care less if you actually will be ever getting what you thought you are buying and what you wanted! And we are not talking here about a building which they delivered and then all of the sudden we decided we do not want it and demanded our money back. We found out that they are trying to sell us some subpar structure with false claims pretty much right away after the order was placed and some new details were discovered. We requested the order to be cancelled immidiately. They completely ignored everything. Just continued to repeat their scripted answers and refused to cancel the order even before it ever went into production. No blue prints have been made, no production, no shipment and no delivery, but they still refused to cancel the order. They were told very clear that the building they are trying to sell us will never work for us even way before they have done any work on it! But they DID NOT CARE. They think they have the right to decide for a customer if the building is good enough and you as a customer HAVE NO RIGHT in their sick despicable mind! ALL THEY CARE IS TO STEAL YOUR MONEY AND SHOVE THEIR SUBPAR BUILDING DOWN YOUR THROAT!

Buyer Beware! This company has MANY COMPLAINTS!!

Wish I had read the numerous unresolved complaints for SteelMaster with the Virginia Office of the Attorney General and Better Business Bureau before doing business with SteelMaster. My experience with this company has been AWFUL!! They went on and on about offering "world class customer service." Well, that was BEFORE my order. Since then, they have made it clear to me: SteelMaster is ONLY interested in making the sale. If one chooses to do business with SteelMaster, PLEASE READ EVERYTHING, ESPECIALLY THE FINE PRINT. My salesperson failed to inform me and misinformed me regarding crucial aspects of my project. After signing the contract, rather than resolve my concerns, SteelMaster referred me to the legalize of my contract and refuses to do the right thing. Regardless of what SteelMaster says verbally, if one has unresolvable problems as a result of this merchant, SteelMaster will adamantly refuse any refunds, regardless of how legitimate the concern or complaint. Lesson Learned. Never again!!

My boyfriend and I were planning on…

My boyfriend and I were planning on buying a home in Montana early March. The home did not have a workshop, so we ordered a quasi kit from steel masters. They constantly tried to push and force us to add and spend more. The building was over 6k.. it was delayed and in the process so was the home. The sale fell through due to owner lying about costs and more.. I contacted Steel master and emailed Ian, rep and they would not refund my money, over 6k.. it's been months and they still have not refunded my money and am looking into a class action lawsuit to retrieve my loss. They told us that they could ship out an awning, if we bought a house with a workshop. I canceled order and never received the building because sale of home didn't go through and we lost over 6k.

Here is our BBB complaint

Here is our BBB complaint: We are a farm located in San Diego County California. We purchased SteelMaste Q30 and Q40, end walls and doors, etc. in June of 2020. In that transaction several misrepresentations were made to us by sales staff regarding calculation books, freight charges, etc. We also ordered insulation in July 2020 but did not take immediate delivery due to a protracted permit period (common here in California). The inspector informed us that the insulation was not acceptable due to fire sprinkler code compliance. SteelMaster started pressuring us to take delivery of the insulation in spite of the fact that when we spoke with the insulation vendor directly they said the delay was no problem. We contacted Mr. Jim ********* at and explained our situation and requested a refund of the ****** we had already paid for the insulation. Despite having spent over **** dollars with SteelMaster via deposits and prompt payments he refused. We tried to work with them. Since the insulation was of no use to us we asked the ****** be applied to the purchase of one their S-10 models. We were told it was no longer available and then we began an extended impass with them (they have held our money now for 18 months). On 12-14-2021 we received an email from Jennifer ***** telling us that now an S-10 building was available "at a deeply reduced owner's pricing with free delivery on the next available load" We were thrilled at this development and told her we would take it. It was less that the ****** of our money they are holding but we said we would go ahead and take the balance in insulation which we can't use just to close this matter. We thought all was proceeding as agreed until we received an email from Mr. Ryan ***** at 8:00 a.m. on the New Years Eve holiday stating they would not provide the S-10 they promised and that we had to take the useless insulation originally ordered in July of 2020 by 1- 31-2022 or we would "forfeit" our ******* They don't reply to our calls or emails. They took or calls after our BBB complaint. Here is our response afterwards to the BBB:Their responses were completely unsatisfactory. They said we agreed to a forfeiture clause. When we asked to show us the clause in the agreement they couldn't (because it doesn't exist). They said their sales representative who promised us the S-10 model wasn't authorized to do so and that they sold it to someone else because they have 30 people in sales, etc. They have been holding over $9,000 of our money for 18 months. They offered us a partial refund of ****** saying they were keeping the rest to "cover their costs". When we asked them to explain those costs they wouldn't and made additional mis-representations regarding the 3rd party insulation company. Apparently they can get away with these practices in Virginia. Here in California they would be in breach of contract, in violation of false promises fraud, etc. If they were in California we would litigate and refer them to state agencies. Given the distance and the amount of time this has dragged on we reluctantly accepted their proposal so in the end they steal thousands from us. A terrible company that should be investigated by the appropriate state agencies in Virginia.

My Advice About SteelMaster

To anyone considering buying and building a SteelMaster building, based on my experience: Save all communications with the company, even phone conversations. Before you sign anything, completely understand the document you are signing - it may differ from your expectations. If you have a legitimate problem and aren't getting anywhere with SteelMaster, file a complaint with the BBB and Virginia Attorney General's office. (SteelMaster will suddenly be much more interested.) Consider buying concrete anchor bolts through SteelMaster - they can get a better price than you can. If you do, order them early - they may take a long time to ship. If you receive the parts for the building and are not erecting it immediately, take their storage suggestions seriously, or the parts will not fit well later. Make sure your concrete pad is flat, or later water will collect along the base. Before you start construction, call SteelMaster technical support and ask what you need to know that is not in the instructions. If you don't get a good answer, call again and talk to someone else. Make sure you understand the blueprint completely - Individual dimensions must add up to the expected total. For construction, you need to have at least 4 "alignment tools" (punches, with a narrow tip, gradually widening enough to fill a bolt hole). The more punches you use at one time to align panels, the less risk of distorting the holes. Two people can erect a SteelMaster building. We put up a 30' wide, 42' long shed. On our best days we put up 3 arches. On the building's ends, there was a fair amount of sheetmetal cutting required. Overall, I am pretty happy with our SteelMaster building, but you may correctly infer that there were some problems along the way.
