Is it United or Apollo, either way its BAD
We hired a car in Heraklion, Crete and found this company via kayak search so we assumed it was reputable. The broker for insurance etc was "Stress Free Car Rental" which is a joke and we actually ended up with a car from a company called Apollo, but United is the Responsible company. The 4 day hire was cheap so our expectations were low but reasonable. When we picked up the car we were picked up by a company called Apollo car rental and seemed to be a part of or associated with United car rental, who we thought we actually had a car from. The Apollo office was very scruffy and poor quality, the car was equally scruffy but it worked and we took lots of photos as proof. To be fair the car was fine and as I said it was cheap, the real issue came when we were asked to pay EUR1100 as a security deposit for damage but we had paid for all the top up insurance via stressfreecarrental so we weren't worried at that stage. After the hire period, we returned the car and it was agreed there was no damage and the milage was unlimited so the guy said "all fine and your money will be returned to the card in 5-7 days.NOW ITS A BIG PROBLEM! after 10 days we chased up this with United car hire. lots of emails saying sorry and we will look into it, but no actual help, no idea what is happening, no response and i feel the emails were chatbots and not real people either. The key problem there is no useful telephone number, i was given a number in morocco for United car hire which is useless as we hired in Crete, Greece, Europe, not morocco Africa, and after multiple attempts I have had to start a claim via Mastercard which is not guaranteed.AVOID this company and do not use them in Crete for sure.

Avoid this company at all costs.
Avoid this company at all costs. They operate out of a run-down van in a parking lot, which should have been the first red flag. The first car they offered us was filthy and likely not even roadworthy. The second was worn out, dented, and just as dirty. Eventually, they presented a third option that was still being worked on — they had literally just closed the bonnet minutes before handing it over to us. At least this one had been washed. We drove from Agadir to Taghazout, and before we even arrived, the brakes were grinding metal on metal. It felt completely unsafe. The very next day, we returned the car to Agadir. There was no way we were going to risk trying another one of their vehicles. Our €1,500 deposit was released, but they kept the full week’s rental payment, assuring us it would be refunded later. After returning to Europe, I followed up about the refund and was told it had been refused because we had “cancelled the contract” and did not request a replacement vehicle. There is absolutely no way I would agree to drive any other car from them after that experience. This may be the cheapest car rental option in Morocco, but you truly get what you pay for. It was a disgraceful experience and left a sour taste at the end of what was otherwise an incredible trip to a beautiful country.Do yourself a favour — stay well away from this company.

Do not rent from this company
Do not rent from this company. Cheap rental but poor car (no radio, no locking) and then got charged at the airport for cleaning. Car was clean inside but dusty outside which is impossible to avoid whilst driving in Morocco.

Rented a car what was stated unlimited…
Rented a car what was stated unlimited millages with big uppercase letters but when you paid for it you found out the unlimited millages only applies if you have boarding pass. Also extra fee if you pass CA border line. By the end I paid more than I just pick up a car from any expensive car rental place. Careful don’t fall for the lowest price advertised. They will screw you.

This is a scam - do not use United / MOVIS
This is a scam. Do not use MOVIS / UNITED. You will be cheated by this dishonest company. Run away and use only trusted, international car rental brands.

I was treated like an animal by…
I was treated like an animal by NextCar. You can see they have shocking reviews on Google, I got to live through the worst aspects of this company. Arrived into the airport, rang the number and asked them which terminal to go to get the transfer. The call centre agent told me the wrong terminal. I went to the new terminal and waited over an hour for the collection (despite actually meeting the transfer bus driver who ignored me the first time around). NextCar virtual agent was a disaster, was all online with no person physically there to address the way I was treated. The virtual agent was totally unsympathetic to how I was treated and gave out tired, machine-like answers as if she was reading from an answer sheet rather than treating me like a human being. It went from bad to worse when they would not accept debit card, only credit card, and eventually said they would accept debit card but would charge a debit card fee in excess of the total value of the rental just to use the debit card. They also refused to send me the rental car contract via email or print it out in the office. A very shady operation. This booking was done via Skyscanner who directed to Discover Cars who then sent to United Car Rental who then send it to NextCar. What an absolute ponzi scheme. My worst ever experience renting a car.

SCAM
I had a very disappointing experience with United Rent A Car, booked through EconomyBookings.com. I reserved and paid for a Volkswagen Golf 8, but upon arrival at the airport, I was forced to accept a filthy Dacia Logan instead. The staff on-site seemed completely unaware of the online booking and showed no accountability. When I refused the low-level car, they shrugged it off and handed me a phone number to call, saying they had no control over the situation.Initially, the phone staff was somewhat polite, and I reluctantly agreed to take the Logan for one day since I needed a car to travel from Agadir to Marrakech, with plans to swap it for the reserved Golf the next day. However, this turned out to be a complete lie. There was zero communication between the Agadir and Marrakech agents, and I wasted 2 hours explaining the mess all over again. The agent at Marrakech repeated the same “call the phone number” routine, and this time the woman on the line — who I later found out was named Asmae — was rude and unhelpful, resulting in a heated argument.United Rent A Car is extremely unprofessional. Their online listings are misleading, their vehicles are often unavailable or dirty, and their staff is untrained and uncooperative. The lack of a proper desk means you’re left waiting at a van in the parking lot forever. This ruined the start of my vacation and wasted my time, money, and energy.DO NOT RENT FROM UNITED RENT A CAR. It’s a scam. Next time, I’ll go with a more professional company with educated staff and a proper counter.

Fraudulent behaviour
Returned a car to Tangier airport with a very minor scratch on the front wing. This sort of scratch is a 5 minute job for someone to polish out.The company tried to charge €400 (despite original contract all paid in Dirhams) and pressured me to put it through my insurance. When I resisted they attempted to get me to sign a return form that simply stated "car is damaged" and gave no details of the actual damage.Clearly they are profiteering off insurance by using the most minor amount of damage to justify their actions.I'm now waiting to see if they return our deposit, I hope other people can avoid these scammers.

Pay a little more and stay away from this company.
I rented a car in Marrakech through United Rent a Car in July 2025. The experience was very disappointing: • There is no proper office at the airport; instead, they operate out of an old van covered in peeling stickers, which feels unprofessional and untrustworthy. • At pickup, I was pressured to accept a lower-category vehicle than the one I booked. Only after firmly insisting was I given a higher-category car. • Strangely, the payment terminal failed to process my credit card (which I use in Morocco for years) for the security deposit. The only alternative presented was to pay the deposit with a debit card, which came with an additional fee of 1,265 MAD. I was forced to accept this because there were no other options and it was late in the night. • I provided proof not only from my bank but also from SIBS, the Portuguese interbank processor, showing that no attempt was made to contact my bank during the transaction, disproving the company’s claim that the problem was with my card. • United Rent a Car refused to provide logs from the Moroccan interbank network (CMI) which could clarify the issue, showing a lack of transparency and accountability. • Overall, the service was marked by pressure, poor communication, and hidden fees, leading to a stressful and unsatisfactory rental experience.I do not recommend United Rent a Car and caution other travelers to be aware of these issues.Again, do a favour to yourself and pay a little more and stay away from this company. (In response to their response: it’s never their fault and they are always transparent and bla bla. That’s why the disastrous reputation they have, like the numbers here shows)

Just stay away
Really shitty service, really bad car (touch panel didn't work, bluetooth did'nt work, four service warnings was active) and there was hidden fees on everything. Please stay away from this company.

This company uses misleading tactics to charge you extra and make it look like you agreed to it. Do not rent from United Rent a Car. You will be taken advantage of.
When we arrived to pick up our car, we were suddenly told there was a "problem" with our credit card. They claimed they couldn’t accept it unless we paid an extra €10 per day. In total, we had to pay an additional €70 just to take the car.The entire experience felt like a stressful psychological game. No one could explain why our credit card suddenly worked after paying the fee. If you refuse, they cancel your booking on the spot. Then they quickly mention that your deposit will be lowered from €1400 to €700, but they don’t explain that this is actually being treated as an optional paid service. Under pressure, you're handed a contract to sign, without being clearly told what you’re agreeing to.Later, when we contacted them by email, their story kept changing. Each time we pointed out something that didn’t make sense, they gave a different explanation. In the end, they simply referred to the contract, where it falsely shows that you voluntarily accepted an extra service to reduce the deposit and that’s what the extra charge was for. Also hidden in the small print: a €5.50 fee just to get your deposit back immediately. We also had to pay €39 to return the car at 6:00 AM, supposedly to have someone there for the final inspection. But no one showed up. When we called, it sounded like we had woken the person up. The inspection was done over the phone, and we were told to leave the keys in the car.Afterwards, customer service was no help at all. They hide behind the contract and keep repeating: “You signed for it.”

Unfair additional cleaning fee in Mauritius Office
When returning the vehicle on the last day, they charged us an additional cleaning fee for the vehicle they did not have cleaned before delivering it to us.We received a car that had just been returned by the previous customer. The vehicle was not cleaned prior to our receiving it. When I inquired about cleaning at pickup, I was informed that the car was considered clean. Although the exterior appeared satisfactory, the interior was not sufficiently clean. I was told vehicles are only cleaned when they appear particularly dirty. This was acceptable until we were later assessed an additional cleaning fee upon return. Such a policy appears unjust and unreasonable. I am asking that if they want cars returned clean, they should also ensure every vehicle is cleaned before delivering it to each customer. Otherwise, they should not demand a cleaning fee from renters.

No refund
Greece has a law which accepts Australian Drivers licences and most car companies (every single one of the ones I have used over the past 3 years) will accept this however after travelling all day to pick up a car from United at Athens airport - they would not hire me the car unless I paid an extra €30 per day and would not refund my money. Not a good experience. As of 5 November 2021, Australian driver licences are recognised in Greece. Individuals who hold a valid Australian driver licence no longer need to also have an International Driving Permit to be able to drive in Greece. A measure that will greatly benefit thousands of Australians living in or visiting Greece annually. The Greek law stating the recognition of Australian driver licences is Law 4850, Article 25, Para 3, published in Greek Government Gazette A 208 – 05.11.2021.Both Australia and Greece are party to the United Nations Convention on Road Traffic 1949.

I was told upon walking thru the door…
I was told upon walking thru the door everything looked. Good and that i should be able to rent a car. After i was told i needed liability insurance i said ok how much? No answer. Then was asked to show proof of insurance for a vehicle i own, which i did. Then i. Was told warning alert popped up on the computer that said i was. High risk to rent to.the agent asked me about it. So i told him nine years ago i helped a friend out rented a truck for her and she was late returning it. I.realize how important it is to be completly responsible for the vehicle i. Rent . I made a poor decision 9 years ago with a rental. Now im on some flagged high risk warning.FOR A MISTAKE I MADE. TEN YEARS AGO.! How DO I GET UNFLAGGED EVEN THE DMV GIVES U GRACE AFTER THREE YEARS OFF UR RECORD.THAT WAS A LONG TIME AGO HOW DO I GET UNFLAGGED? SEEMS KINDA UNFAIR IF U. ASK ME.

I had a very bad experience with United…
I had a very bad experience with United Rent a Car Tirana. The pickup process was extremely slow, and I had to wait a long time before getting the car. When I finally received it, the car had already run 350,000 km.On the first day, one tyre got punctured. When checked, it was bulging from the inside and unsafe to drive. I was traveling with my little one, so I had to replace it at my own cost. They promised to refund the money, but when I returned the car, they refused, saying tyres were not covered. After a long argument, they finally gave the money back.Very disappointing service. The car was old, unsafe, and poorly maintained. I would not recommend this company to anyone looking for a reliable rental.

Scam
No one at the car rental for the pickup and are claiming afterwards that you didn't show up so you don't get a refund. Worst experience renting a car ever.

Awful car Hyundai i10 Reg IOK 7973
Rented from Athens Airport Hyundai i10 Reg IOK 7973(If we had read the reviews of this car on United's website prior to our being offered it, we would and should have refused it) With hindsight, we should have said no to the car anyway. Our first question was "Has the car been washed? Has it been in a rally"The car wasn't clean and it had scratches, scuffs and bumps on virtually every panel. We were assured by a member of staff that the mechanics had checked the car over and that it was fine. Clearly this could not have been done with any diligence, skill, knowledge or care. Below is the list which we have provided to the office in Athens Badly knocking suspension ball joint (driver side) - could fail at any time (dangerous)No parcel shelfNo visor (passenger side)Noisy and weak fanTorn front passenger seat Washers front and rear not working - water pours out below carTailgate/boot will not stay open (it fell and hit on me on my head when first used)Bodywork extensively scratched and marked This car has covered over 264000 KmsOn returning the car, we discussed all of the above and provided them with a copy (they did listen and cooperated). I informed them that I believe that the car is not roadworthy and should not be released until certainly the safety issues were resolved.I further offered my opinion that given everything discussed and listed and knowing that the car has covered in excess of 264000 kilometres, wasn't it time to retire the vehicle and replace it one that was at least half decent?Overall, it was a pretty rubbish and disappointing experience
