Highly Recommend

Remodelmate stood out because of their excellent customer service. They were responsive to our questions and helpful in walking us through the process. We had full trust in them to deliver an excellent final product, which they did. Highly recommend.

Left us feeling misled

My wife and I were very disappointed by our experience attempting to work with Remodelmate. The only positive thing I can say is that we didn’t have to sign a contract for the whole project up front, and that allowed us to back out after it became clear that they were not being upfront about how much they were going to charge us for the work when all was said and done. We first contacted Remodelmate in March 2022 after realizing that there was significant damage to the sewer drain pipe connecting to the toilet in the bathroom of our fixer-upper. Because we knew this was going to be a big issue, we jumped on a call with Chad early-on to confirm that repairing/replacing this was included in the estimate (list of “Milestones”) they provided so that we could fairly compare it against other estimates that also included it. Chad assured us that it was included and noted that they remodel bathrooms in various conditions with all sorts of problems, and this isn’t really that big of a deal. We made the mistake of taking his word for it. Relying on the list of Milestones and their corresponding prices, and our conversation with Chad, we decided to work with Remodelmate. We paid them a $250 deposit, an additional $500 for professional design, and purchased thousands of dollars in materials in anticipation of the start date they assigned us. Much to our surprise, when the contractor showed up on our start date they almost immediately informed us that the sewer drain was not included and would add approximately $4,500 to the cost. The contractor also informed us that a number of other charges had been omitted from the List of Milestones, and there would be significant additional charges to complete the job they helped us design. On the day the work was supposed to start, the total cost for the job went from just over $12,000 to more than $21,000. We immediately contacted Remodelmate expecting that they would honor what Chad told us with regard to the sewer drain. This time we were put in touch with Logan, who initially agreed to talk with Chad to determine whether there was a misunderstanding, but he never gave us an explanation despite repeated requests. He matter-of-factly explained that we would have to pay the full additional charge if we wanted to proceed with the work, and we never heard from Chad again. It was infuriating. We did not understand how Remodelmate could provide us with a design, and what we understood was a complete estimate, only to then say they left out almost half of the steps needed to complete the project as designed. To their credit, Remodelmate ultimately acknowledged mistakes were made and offered a couple of small freebies, but nothing that came close to making up for grossly underestimating the cost of the work, which caused us to choose them in the first place. We were fortunate that at the time we realized who we were dealing with we were only out the $750 + materials, and still had the option to walk away. I’m thankful that we were able to find another reputable company to do the work that was honest and up front with us about the true cost of the work. At first, I worried that may be this is just how the remodeling business works, but we didn’t have any of these problems with the company who ultimately did the work on our bathroom. If you decide to go with Remodelmate I would suggest recording any phone conversations with them and if you intend to rely on a commitment from them be sure that every word of it is in writing.

Buyer BEWARE

This started off great; they were eager to get me started, set up a design, then quoted me a price they SWORE was accurate and I would not go over. After billing thousands for ordering products, they left me stranded with a house full of materials and no contractor. I eventually had to find my own contractor and since then have been told many of the materials they ordered were unusable (which I can't return) and the design unrealistic for the space...so I had to redo that, too. TERRIBLE SERVICE. I'm not sure if this is a scam but you will spend MORE $$$ fixing their errors and getting stuck with their mistakes.

The trade craftsman were truly professionals

The trade craftsman were truly professionals as they walked me thru what work was to be performed, how it was going to be addressed, and asked for my visual inspection as well as operating performance and approval of the job. In addition, they asked that I contact them at once should I experience any trouble.

Not as smooth as they make it sound

Pros: - The day to day communication with my representative was great. Analyn was very responsive and efficient. That said, I once emailed the owner, Chad, to complain about process and never heard back from him.- You don't have to pay the milestones until you are satisfied.- Unlike my previous experience with contractors, this time they would not disappear for days at a time, or leave the job unfinished.Cons:Remodelmate's business model seems pretty ideal. And if it all sounds too good to be true, well ... It's because it is. Let's break this up into parts. 1. Budget: Their model is to try to give you the smallest budget possible to lure you in. And it works! I mean, here I am. But there should be a contingency line in the budget of a few thousand dollars. Basically, they only include items that you can see, but anything that you may discover once you tear down your old bathroom is not included. So you end up spending A LOT more that you originally thought. 3. Design: Remodelmate promises a 3D design, but it actually is 2D. There were items that were not included in the design, and I didn't know any better to ask for them (e.g. the upper trim for the wainscoting) so I had to go to Home Depot and get it myself. Lastly, they don't provide samples of the materials, which leads me to the next segment.2. Materials: I had a lot of problems with the materials. Beware that once you approve the list of materials, it can be VERY hard and frustrating to try to return things. Here are the main issues I had:- Floor Tile: Even though the tile I chose could technically go inside the shower, it didn't allow for a slope into the drain. Since I don't know anything about construction, I didn't think of this. This should have been discussed during the design. So I ended up having to go to a tile shop and choose something else. Could I return the leftover? Yes, but would have had to pay and outrageous restocking fee, plus shipping. - Shower wall tile: I trusted the amount the calculated would be appropriate for the square footage. But no, they made me buy twice the amount I needed, and like before, returning wasn't an option. So now I have about 15 boxes of tile sitting in my hallway. - Lights and toilet: In picture of the design, the lights looked great. But once they got here, there were about 4 times the size. They were meant for an industrial space, and not for my little bathroom. However, they did help with the return. Same with the toilet which didn't work with the plumbing in my old house. They took care of the shipping, except I had to take a very heavy toilet to UPS by myself.3. Construction quality: Well, this really depends on the contractor they pair you with. I wish Remodelmate had a representative come in, and judge the work. At some point I got tired of asking them to pay more attention to details, and gave up and approved the project. Basically, if you think this is going to be a hassle free process, it won't be. You will have to be way more involved, I would suggest you ask a lot of questions during the design phase. And think of things that are not shown in the design. Your plumbing, what's behind your walls, will you need drywall, framing after demolition, etc... those things were not included for me. Also details like, outlets and light switches.

Not so smooth...

We had high hopes for remodelmate but were ultimately let down by a number of missteps. We were promised how smooth the process of ordering materials and delivery would be. The initial delivery was incomplete and several items had to be tracked down. All three tile orders were insufficient and we had to track down additional tile for ourselves. This ultimately added 2 extra weeks to the project. No accommodations were made. We had several different points of contact throughout the process, so it was never clear who to talk to and several key things we left off the initial plan. We built a closet but the remodelmate never offered a plan to finish the closet. We had to address the flooring and shelves on our own. The shower door we selected took an additional 4 weeks to complete. This was never addressed by remodelmate. While we are mostly happy with the final result, it was not the easy process that we were sold on.

Caveat emptor

I’d like to write a review about the quality of the work they did, but I couldn’t get that far with these guys, after two attempts. I first engaged RemodelMate in March, 2021. I answered their online questionnaire, which took about a minute, and scheduled the initial telephone interview after their online tool quoted me $8,920.00 to do my bath. During that interview, Andrew Burke reassured me that the price would actually go down because, according to him, their online pricing was based on Washington DC materials and labor sourcing, and they could source materials and labor more affordably in my area. Great. When they sent me the final proposal though, it actually went UP by about $1,200.00. The reason was a $1,200.00 charge for the “concierge” fee, which was not included in the quote from the online tool, despite Burke being aware of it, discussing it with me, and that it was also featured prominently on their website. The whole thing seemed a little bait-and-switch to me, so I stepped away. My bath remodel then got put on a back burner for several months. Flash forward several months and I decided to re-engage Remodelmate when I was ready to move forward. This time I spoke with CEO Chad Hall. After getting the 60-second online quote, we had an hour-long discussion and I was 100% ready to begin. Reviewing the results of the online quote tool though, I noticed many of the details of the work that we discussed on the phone were missing in the “quote,” so I got some clarification via email and requested the detailed contract that I expected I’d need to sign. I was told that the online quote result *was* the contract, despite it being a vague, cookie cutter, one-size-fits-all, online form tool result. That’s fine. I got the clarification I needed on my particular project via email, and was still comfortable with moving ahead with Remodelmate. Eight days after receiving my quote, however—which stated that it was valid for 30 days—Malaika, with RemodelMate, emailed me on a Monday to advise that I’d need to pay my booking fee that Friday or face a price increase. Once again, RemodelMate was back to talking out of both sides of their mouth. I advised Chad that I expected them honor my quote for the promised thirty days. He responded and said they would. I followed up with a few additional questions about the project and Chad simply did not respond again. At the end of the day, I was unable to do business with them because they demonstrated a pattern of talking out of both sides of their mouths, and they eschew standard business practices—like an actual, detailed contract—in favor of gimmicky, simplistic online form tools. Ymmv, but I found them to be a little sketchy.

Remodelmate Complete Bathroom Renovation Experience

Remodelmate provided a complete experience for our bathroom renovation and we could not be more pleased. From the initial consultation, to the design review, itemized bill of material, contractor meet and greet, etc. The whole experience was tailored to our needs as we were able to provide feedback and change parts to our liking. For any damaged item received, Remodelmate worked with the sub-vendor to replace damaged parts which was a huge burden that we did not have to deal with. The contractor was very engaged throughout the build and adjusted and course corrected as needed. The whole process was smooth and we couldn't be happier with the end product! Highly recommend Remodelmate for your bathroom renovations!

Not what I expected! December 2020

Remodelmate remodeled my master bathroom the 1st week of December 2020. I was given a 2 week time frame or sooner for the project completion. I understand things pop up unexpectedly and it may affect the finish date. Fine but not this. From beginning to end there was so many issues with miscommunication and Job performance.. Do not allow anyone to have access to your CC without fully understanding what they are doing with it. Additional cost kept coming up. There was wasted items purchased that was not used. I personally had to take items back brought by the contractor. Work was poorly done. The contractors had to keep coming back to redo the same Job over and over to half way get it looking decent. Some items where taken that I bought, that was consider to be trash but could be used elsewhere. They were brought back after, I pointed it out the items where missing from my garage. The wall construction to the paint was horrible. Someone else was brought back in to correct the mess that was made the 1st time. I still have a sink issue with the installation that was corrected twice already. Things where damaged and yes they where replaced. I could go on and on about how disappointing this experience was. I have two other projects I will be doing. And remodelmate will not be doing either. Communication and explaining everything to your consumers would be helpful. Get the right individuals to do the Job correctly the 1st time so there is no need for the consumers to keep buying materials over and over. Giving great customer service and making your customers experience Great should be a Priority! I do not Recommend them for any Service! People do your research I will take my Business Elsewhere!!

Seamless Process With Fair Pricing

As a real estate investor, I have used Remodelmate for several projects, from kitchen remodels to roof replacements. Given their online platform, the process from start to finish is so seamless. For example, Remodelmate replaced the roof on one of my properties without me every having to meet the contractors. They were able to take measurements, give me fair pricing, install the roof, and provide a warranty all online. What sets this company apart is the service. They have great communication and are always willing to resolve any issues that may arise. I would recommend Remodelmate (and have recommended them) to anyone who would like to do a remodeling project without the traditional headache.

Smart Choice is to Use Remodelmate A+

I am excited to have found remodelmate as a service to complete the front door repair on my townhome. It was quick and easy to use, and paid the best price compared to other estimates I received on my own. I am happy to be a remodelmate customer and will continue to keep them in mind for future projects.

Rehab to sell

We had a project to update our bathrooms before selling our house. Chad came out to give us an estimate and very quickly we got started. We were impressed with the results as well as the care we got from Chad. He was on the job every day giving us updates and making sure our questions were answered. The end result is we sold our home the day it went on the market for over asking.

1st Floor Reno

Overall project was done well and on schedule. The workmanship could have been a little neater in a couple of small areas. However, we were pleased with the process, level of communication, and management of the project by remodelmate.

Excellent Pricing, Strong Support Throughout Renovation Process

We purchased a downtown DC condo that required significant alterations to a previously-installed IKEA kitchen. As part of the project, we also wanted to replace the tile, toilets, and vanities in our three bathrooms. Remodelmate didn't offer the absolute lowest price that we considered. Still, they brought a level of support, communication, and professionalism during the bidding process that made it clear they would outperform the lower-cost handymen and single-purpose vendors we had considered. They were also unafraid of the parking, insurance, and noise concerns that come with a project in a large downtown building. Since Remodelmate would coordinate the work, I did not need to coordinate multiple vendors or organize their schedules. Selecting and securing materials was my responsibility, but they also provided assistance and guidance as I shopped for the tiles, cabinetry, and toilets we would need, allowing us to select the perfect design options at significant savings.Remodemlate selected G&D Construction to handle most of the tasks on our project. They immediately started a group text message allowing me to communicate with Remodelmate and the contractor in real-time to address questions as they arose. They also offered a milestone-based billing system that required payment only after I verified each task was complete. They even accepted credit cards, so I picked up a fair number of Amex points.Remodeling a property will always come with some surprises, but having Remodelmate involved helped avoid those surprises becoming a hassle or added expense. In addition to carefully scoping the work, they stepped in and helped find solutions. When we encountered concerns with the renovation, such as unexpected lippage with the kitchen tile installation (which we overlooked until after G&D installed the cabinets), Remodelmate made sure the tiles were removed and replaced without impacting our cost or completion schedule. When we encountered a minor overcharge for a few of the tasks, Remodelmate's CEO personally reached out to me and immediately issued a refund. I do not doubt that, had I been working directly with the contractor, my project would have experienced additional costs and unnecessary delays.Perfection is often an unattainable goal, especially in renovations. Not everything about our project was perfect, but we're thrilled with the result. The key to having a successful project is addressing issues as they occur and keeping the project on track. Remodelmate did a fantastic job ensuring our renovation was a success. I highly recommend them.

Bathroom renovations by remodelmate

We used remodelmate to renovate two bathrooms in our condo that we planned to sell. Chad and his team were easy to work with -- they listened to what we wanted and offered advice when they thought that we'd likely prefer something different than what we requested (they were always right). When they began the work, I found remodelmate to be responsible and reliable. And when they finished both bathrooms, I was sad that we were planning to move because both bathrooms were gorgeous! On top of all of that, remodelmate was reasonably priced. We could not have been happier with the experience and would not hesitate to use them in our new home!
