Rude and fabricated
We had multiple children participating in individual lessons and the band program for two years. I am an ex-pro musician with a degree in music from USC and was looking for a school operated by like-minded professionals to help me with the music education of my kids. I was looking for a situation that would provide The kids with an opportunity to collaborate with other talented young musicians and learn performance skills. The Music Factory was convenient because it’s quite close to where I live, but it didn’t work out and the primary reason is school owner Danny Thompson. We tried hard to make it work. We showed up on time for everything, made sure our kids practiced, participated in every performance opportunity, and always paid our bill. But there were shortcomings in the program. The individual lessons were Ok. Eric Behringer provided quality drum instruction but he’s gone now like others you will read about below. Yuka really helped our daughter with vocals. But if you want your student to learn standard music notation and theory you need to be careful. This school doesn’t focus on that and it will depend on which instructor you end up with. Good individual instruction is widely available elsewhere. It was the band program that attracted us to TMF in the first place, but that program turned out to be a mess. We had three different band instructors during three rotations in a row, and none of them really knew what they were doing. They really didn’t know how to teach a band class or even how to architect a band to play music. Plus they were flaky. One of them missed two rehearsals in a row with zero advance warning and had no reasonable explanation. A scheduled performance was imminent so we reacted by running some rehearsals ourselves but school owner Danny Thompson didn’t like that. He also didn’t like it if we tried to help the kids pick songs to learn, communicate with other parents, or help our daughter use her own little keyboard instead of the school’s dinosaur. We didn’t feel welcome at the school. Danny seemed to just want us to drop our kids there and leave. I think that’s because we wanted to know what was going on and sometimes asked questions. But we never demanded anything from Danny or the school. We showed up on time for everything, participated in everything, and always paid our bill. We did try to discuss our concerns about the band program with Danny and I even offered to volunteer at the school to help out. But Danny wasn’t open to hearing about our concerns and repaid our loyalty with a tantrum about “his way or the highway” and told us “no parent input allowed”. Then without warning he just deleted my kids’ accounts in the school’s online system sending THEM a message that they were “out”! He didn’t discuss options with us, give us the opportunity to withdraw from the school, or care about the effect his actions would have on our kids or other kids at TMF. He just deleted their accounts and notified them that they were out without even giving us a chance to tell them what was happening. They’re just kids they didn’t deserve that! Danny Thompson is an insecure, unprofessional, over-controlling individual who only really seems to understand one style of music. He doesn’t want anyone around who knows anything or might have other ideas or question him in any way. He brags about his “world tours” playing drums for an obscure punk rock band and apparently thinks that gives him the skill to dictate the nuances of providing a music education for children. Apparently it doesn’t. He certainly can’t keep band instructors around there very long and it’s easy to see why. Danny is too petty, volatile, and musically limited to be allowed to be responsible for your child’s musical education let alone their wellbeing. Doing damage to a child by establishing a permanent memory for them that they were "kicked out" of a school even though the child did nothing to deserve that doesn't faze Danny because he is a narcissist who lacks the compassion to understand that when children are entrusted to him he is responsible for their wellbeing and that his actions and behavior will affect them, maybe permanently. If you are a parent who cares about what your child will learn and who they will learn it from look elsewhere. There are other music schools with better professional governance and a more flexible and competent approach for educating your child.
There guitar teacher don't know how teacher don't know acoustic guitar. WASTE OF MONEY I took my daughter there for one day, she realize that the chords he was teaching her were the wrong chords and he had a electric guitar on his hand he was teaching, and he didn't even inform here. He does't know acoustic guitar! THEY WILL NOT REFUND YOUR MONEY BACK. THE TEACHER THERE WON'T EVEN CALL YOU BACK!!!!
great music school in this area. my younger brother got lot of improvement within a month in bass. its a place of fun and learn.
I have two children taking lessons here (one for drums, the other bass) and we've had a really positive experience. My kids love it and love their instructors. There is no whining or dragging their feet to go like with some other activities. If we could swing it, I know they'd be happy to go multiple times a week!
Mike Madariaga is a terrific guitar teacher. He's enthusiastic, talented, knowledgeable, polite and friendly. The Music Factory is a fun school. The recitals are very special, with a different theme every time, showcasing all ages and all skill levels among the school's students in a warm and friendly environment.
I have been going to the Music Factory OC for about a year learning guitar and I would not think of going anywhere else. Everyone there is always nice and says hello. My instructor Ryan is phenomenal. He never gets upset with me. Ryan is funny and makes it fun. That is pretty much it.
Highly recommended! Great teachers and staff to help you with learning or improving your music skills at any level!
My 12 yr old and 21 yr old daughters including myself have all been students of the Music Factory. The school is run by a very talented musician and all around nice guy Dan. The teachers all have a special gift for teaching music very enthusiastically and patiently in a way that meets each students individual needs.
I have learned more about the Guitar and what it means to play the guitar in 1 year. This school is amazing. My teacher Ty is the best and the staff there is amazing.
Had a wonderful experience at the Music Factory!Great staff, and great teachers. Would definitely recommend this school to everybody looking for an opportunity to grow their musical talent !
My son has taken guitar lessons for over a year and has enjoyed his experience. Mike M. has been patient and fun. I would highly recommend the Music Factory.
My kids have been with Music Factory School for a year now and they loved it. Their teacher Ms. Zanna is the best! She is super nice to my kids and very patient with them. She showed up to their recital and cheered them on. Her support means a lot to us. Danny and Corey are both very nice as well. They always resolve our problems promptly. Overall, everyone there are nice and it's a great school!
If I knew about Guitar center giving classes. I would definitely go there than here. I was there to learn how to Dj. The person here would reschedule because he had to cancel. Made up only 30 min during our session he said he has to leave. I had like about 2 hours that I still had but Never got them back. So I left and went to guitar center. I learned SO much there I was doing everything wrong what the person was teaching me. Waste of money trying to learn something that I was doing basically the same thing.
We've had lessons from several teachers for several instruments for two kids - the teacher's are musicians, not trained music teachers. The last teacher selected age inappropriate vocal music (sexualized content for an 8 yo) and told me I needed to allow my son to expand his interests. Since finding a local school with professional teachers, I have since learned of many errors my all of their former teachers. I guess I'm just not impressed by tattoos and brightly colored hair - we found the quality of instruction we were seeking elsewhere.
Great people who care and embrace the pleasures of learning music
excellent!!!!!!!!!love the music factory
My daughter has been a guitar student at The Music Factory for almost a year. She really enjoys her teacher and the atmosphere, and I enjoy how flexible and accommodating they are with make-up lessons. I would highly recommend this school of music.
The study plan is well thought out and personalized to the pupils capabilities as well as learning pace
