Reliable IDEs for Long-Term Use
I’ve been using JetBrains products for about 6 years, and in my opinion, they are excellent development tools. With many other IDEs, you often spend a significant amount of time not only on development but also on configuration and environment setup — which can be fine in some cases. However, with JetBrains tools, you can simply focus on your work instead of constantly configuring the environment. That’s a huge advantage for productivity.

Very Poor Customer Support
I bought I 2 year license from them, only not to receive the code, then had an educational license applied. I've lost 6 months of subscription time and cannot speak to anyone by phone.Their email is condescending at best and they simply do not listen nor empathise. Regardless of their software. Their attitude stinks.

Being using PyCharm Pro for free since college. Now I ran out, and I'm glad they still offer a free version. Would've been a huge paint o transfer all my stuff to a different IDE.

JetBrains is on a downwards slope and unlikely to recover
JetBrains is on a downwards slope in my opinion. They used to be the go-to platform but it's becoming a pile of garbage now.Forget major upgrades, even minor versions introduce breaking changes and bring the IDEs to a slow crawl. The AI is a second-class citizen, the IDEs are sluggish and slow, and working on Windows with WSL integration is becoming a nightmare with these IDEs.I'm becoming more tempted to jump ship with each new "upgrade" released by the company.

Their software doesn't work.
Their software doesn't work.I had to use it for a class and halfway through, I switched to VS. The JUnit testing framework in particular is very clunky and difficult to configure. I would rather use a product that works, thanks.
Damn You Games Workshop
credits for ai tool
They build in an ai tool you can query for questions about your code. I bought the ultimate version to get the most out of it. It was good until last month where they also limited the ultimate version and now you have to buy credits to do more then the threshold they put in. I think this is a very dirty money scheme. The sad part is it is legal.

Dynassuar…
I posted the below on one of their threads (search "Intellij glorified task runner") but they took it down:The success of Jetbrains has become their curse: products are deteriorating and they don't listen anymore. The ship has become too heavy to avoid the iceberg.Cursor disrupted the market. They started out orders of magnitude ahead, and move so rapidly that few can stop them. The AI speed is incredible yet they still bring out updates every week.I've been with Jetbrains since their early days of Resharper. Now all that remains is a £3 monthly subscription. Webstorm is rapidly fading from my toolbox. For £20 I replaced WebStorm, JB AI, PyCharm, Datagrip and CLion.I was patient, raised my thoughts as jetbrains issue LLM-16883.Now, it's time to say goodbye.

Great IDE ruined by restrictive AI quotas
I’ve been a paying customer of JetBrains PyCharm Ultimate and always thought it was one of the best IDEs out there. The debugging tools, inspections, and overall polish are top-tier.But the recent experience with their AI Assistant has pushed me away. Despite paying for the Ultimate plan, you’re hit with restrictive AI quotas that run out far too quickly. Once you hit the cap, you’re locked out for weeks unless you pay extra. That’s not “Ultimate,” that’s rationing. What makes it worse is you can’t just use your own GPT or Claude subscription keys like you can in VS Code. JetBrains forces you through their pipeline and keeps you under their limits. It feels less like a productivity tool and more like an Apple-style ecosystem where they control everything.I shouldn’t be paying for premium software and still have to worry about being cut off mid-work. Because of this, I’ve cancelled my subscription and moved back to VS Code where I can plug in my own AI keys without fear of hitting quotas.JetBrains makes great software, but until they remove the artificial restrictions or allow users to bring their own AI keys, I can’t recommend it.

AI Price going UP and your available quota going DOWN
I have been using Jet Brains for many years through work but purchased my own licence for personal use. I started using the new AI functionality, specifically Junie which originally I found to be very good. However the price has gone up by £10 per month without warning and your available quota has gone considerably down. The really annoying thing is they charge you for it wanting to run tests on your machine and it reading the success back. It never wants to run the tests all together, it will do it one at a time and charge you individually for doing so. the quota has gotten considerably smaller and they now have top up AI credits. This is just greedy. £30 a month is expensive when a handful of requests reduces your quota by 10%. The AI responses I also want to say have also got worse. Previously I always felt like it took previous interactions into account whereas now it seems to start the process all over again, probably because it can use up more of your credits this way. The service went from being the future to not worth the money very very quickly

It is going down ...
I'm mainly using then Pycharm, DataGrip, CLion which used to work very fine, but for the moment their code completion/ intelligence / copilot or what ever is in charge of the IDE is either not working or sometimes very good. Sometimes when editing a file it knows (guess) very nice what I want, but if switching to another and then back to the first, it is silent. Sometimes the code completion is working and sometimes not at all which is very frustrating. It seem like JetBrains is trying to be everywhere but is loosing the battle. If this continues I'm forced to switch back to my former setup.

I've used JetBrains products for more…
I've used JetBrains products for more than a decade. Yes, I can VSCode for free and do so for work, but it's simply not as robust as JB's IDEs. It's so much quicker to navigate a codebase and make changes across files. Plus, their support and investment in programming communities is unparalelled.

Generally the software is flaky
Generally the software is flaky. If you make a bug report they tell you to put ANOTHER report in the public list. Isn't their bug list THEIR job ? Unless the question is about licensing (aka giving them money) you don't get much sensible out of them. I would avoid them, I regret getting locked into their tool (pycharm).

Liars, stealing info and providing nothing.
Only reason I tested was cause of free trial with claude 4.It said 30 days after typing my credit card. After less than 1 day trial is over and now they have all my information and of course im not changing IDE for this piece of garbage.Lying should be considered a big red flag; is not about the trial itself, I can pay claude instead of this sht but I wanted to pre-test claude vs GPT 4.1 and after 2 prompts my trial of 30 days was over.Lying is not correct; keeping information based in lies is not correct. Jet brains is all that is wrong with AI industry and I hope soon the market is flooded with options this parasites will have no option but make it part of the IDE instead of a suscription.PARASITES WITH 2.6 STARS REVIEWS...

Obscure pricing
Really obscure pricing models with organizations and personal accounts. Be very careful or you will end up paying $1000s unnecessarily and support are unhelpful

Doubling down on ruining user experience
Why am I spending money on an IDE that is rendered absolutely unusable whenever its "Indexing...", when I can just use VSCode for free which won't do this?Bizarre that this company, when faced with a free and high quality alternative, is so committed to enraging its users? Last I recall the idea of a company is to gain customers not drive them away?

Shady Billing Tactics
Absolutely disgraceful. Got an email that my credit card failed, so I updated it and reactivated the subscription - only to get slammed with a 24 EUR charge instead of 14. Why? Because JetBrains sneakily added an extra product to my subscription without consent. This is manipulative, predatory behavior. Only bottom-of-the-barrel, shady companies pull this kind of stunt. I expected better from JetBrains, but clearly, they're happy to squeeze extra cash through deceptive billing tactics. Total loss of trust.
