Subscriptions that can't be cancelled!

I tried for over a month to cancel a yearly subscription to the Headspace app. I reached out to Headspace several times in advance, advising I wanted this subscription cancelled. They would not help me, stating that I bought it via Google Play store. Yet no subscriptions were showing on my Google account. I tried to cancel through the Headspace app, but all I got was a message saying no subscriptions, or was directed back to the play store - where of course, there were no subscriptions! I tried via my Paypal account since it came up as Paypal under previous bank statements - nothing visible. I tried via my Yahoo email address as this is the email address associated with my Headspace account - nothing. I logged in to two separate bank accounts from which they had previously taken payment and no recurring payments were showing. This was all after attempting to contact Google Pay, since there is no clear contact information for them, just AI chatbots. I did all I could, and again advised Headspace of all of this - very clearly stating (with plenty of time before the payment was due) that I did not want that money leaving my account. They refused to help me, stating Google Pay manage the payment and I can only cancel through them - oh, and that they wouldn't refund me once the payment did go through, as per a link to their terms and conditions! What their terms and conditions DON'T say is that they can continue to charge customers for a subscription they no longer want and are, inexplicably unable to cancel...!No one appears able to find this phantom subscription, yet it clearly exists because I've been paying for it (willingly) for years, and surprise surprise, they've never had any issues taking the money.I was left with no other option but to phone my bank to get them to block the upcoming payment. They were very helpful and advised they had put a block on this payment for 13 months. This did not stop them. The money was still taken from my account yesterday, and upon calling my bank to inquire, it seems the company altered their name slightly by adding an asterisk so as to avoid the block. Debit resolution advised me there is nothing they can do until the subscription is cancelled (!) Apparently the payment is not listed as a subscription, only as a routine transaction. Presumably this is how they get away with holding people to a subscription they no longer want.I have still been charged, despite multiple requests and attempts to cancel.For a meditation app promoting calm and positive mental health, this experience has caused me extreme anger, frustration, stress, and financial anxiety. Not only is it an unacceptable way to do business, it is literal theft.

Meh and autorenew

Never found it that good and ultimately stopped using it. Then they auto-renewed me and would not issue a refund. I discovered the charge in less than 24 hrs.

Headspace

The company that own this app is billing the virtual therapy visits under the physical company in California in which I’m physically located in TX, if you aren’t in California I would advise not using them….. I have virtual therapy visits at a $0 copay but ended up having to pay over $300 because they don’t have a actual number to call and speak to a live person to correct the billing issue……save yourself a headache and save yourself money because this company is billing virtually visits as in person visits!!!!!

This is an absolute rip off

This is an absolute rip off. I tried it out for one day and then cancelled because it wasn’t very good. A year later they have just taken more money from my account which they are now refusing to refund. Avoid this company at all costs.

an odd overhyped app

I've heard a lot about headspace and it sponsoring certain youtubers etc, so when my work offered a free membership, I signed up. The meditations were all very strange, not particularly relaxing or meditative. Mostly people just speaking on certain topics? The app was pretty hard to navigate too. I'd never pay my own money for this.

Do Not Pay For This

Have HeadSpace through work and it’s got a few self-help features. I scheduled an online therapy session that was never confirmed. I could not change or cancel it myself. I reached out to HeadSpace who said it was their subcontractor who didn’t confirm and I had to work with them to change/cancel. The subcontractor didn’t respond either, so after 2 weeks of trying I gave up. Would never recommend paying for this service.

AVOID:This mind calming app has so many bugs in that it made me very angry and frustrated. Poor technical support.I'm using a top of the range smartphone…

AVOID: I have constantly experienced problems with the headspace app, it takes 15 seconds to load, tells me incorrectly that I am offline, features and functions dissapear or become unavailable. The Technical support bot just advise me to delete the app, reboot and reinstall the latest app which I have done on many occasions only to experience the same FRUSTRATING app problems again. FOR YOUR OWN PEACE OF MIND AVOID!I eventually got a full refund from customer support by emailing them.

Be careful

Be careful, I feel tricked into subscription. Can't cancel. Charged for a year upfront without a warning it would be taken and the app itself seems gimmick to me. Tried to use at as have been charged. But it's not working for me . My experience of Headspace : have been caused stress trying to deal with them , actually opposite to the help they say they'd provide. If you need support you'd be better off using a professional. Don't get fooled like me.

Horrible Customer Experience

I beg you please read the reviews as to how often they have scammed people. I was one of the ones who took advantage of the "sale". I quickly realized their platform was not for me - I like Calm better. I did not use it again for the rest of the year and honestly forgot about it. I was charged on Jan. 1 for $69.99 for another year and reached out the same day. Headspace told me they had emailed me on Dec. 2, 2025 and they cannot refund me money. This is already horrible customer service - I have had this happen before with other companies and they have refunded me my money and when I am ready to use the service again I have gone back to them because I trust the customer service. Now I am always on top of my emails - I even regularly check my spam folder. I went through my trash folder - Headspace never emailed me and they outright lied to me. From the reviews this seems to be the business model they use. Also, I am sure they can clearly tell that I did not even access my account from Jan. 2025 on and they still think it is good customer relations to keep charging.

A scam company

A scam company. I should have checked with trustpilot before signing up for a 14 day free trial. They charged me £49.99 immediately😡I contacted them straightaway & they’ve redirected me to Apple, so now waiting to see if Apple will refund me.

I should have looked at the reviews

I should have looked at the reviews. I will never do business with headspace. It says there is a 14 day trial, but when I asked for my refund the second day after purchasing it, they didn't respond and I've repeatedly sent emails. I was not treated fairly.

It's cheesey

It's cheesey. I tried to cancel my free trial and thought I took all the necessary steps. However, on the last day I saw I was charged. I canceled it immediately and requested a refund. Their team said they sent me reminders to cancel, which I saw and thought I already had, and refused to refund me. Now I am disputing with my credit card company. I HATE when companies pull this. I've been using calm for years and never had any issues. I'll never use headspace again!!!

Overcharged me, very long response time

Around 6 hours before my subscription was due to renew, I selected their Black Friday discount. When I checked my account page, it showed it would renew at half price but when it did renew, I was charged the full time price. When I contacted support, they agreed to refund me the difference within 1-3 working days but did not do so. When I contacted them again, they cancelled my subscription instead! This response was completely inappropriate. Also note that it takes a long time (days) to receive a response to support queries - if they respected their customers, they'd take on more staff to prevent this backlog. They are supposed to be concerned with mental health but caused me undue stress.

Total Scam

I was not warned that a renewal was coming. I thought I cancelled my membership. When I saw the charge to my credit card, I contacted them the same day. They took days to respond and said that the refund period had expired and refused to return my money. The renewal was double what I paid for the original membership, and double what people can get the membership for now.

Their auto renewal is a come-on scam

Their auto renewal is a come-on scam. I tried to cancel on the very day it was auto renewed. Their refusal to refund my inflated renewal shows that their business model relies on this and not on providing customer satisfaction.

Automatic Renewal No Notice No Refund

I was automatically renewed without any notice. I responded within a day of the notice and was told I was to late to cancel. Several emails have been exchanged with no resolution yet.I even offered to accept a 50% credit and they rejected that. Very unhappy with their predatory actions.12/2025 After several frustratng emails, I pointed ut that their own website states that they will provide notice of upcoming auto-renewal (they didn't), they agreed to make an "exception" to their policy. I'm not going to chnage my rating because it shoud not have been so difficult to resolve but I felt I shoud acknowledge that they did the right thing.

Subscription scam 

Avoid at all costs.They have taken three subscriptions from my credit cards , and refuse to engage with me in any meaningful communication to secure a refund.Totally unethical IMHO. Wish I had checked out the Trustpilot website before I made my purchase. Apparently, their track record is shameful.So instead of Headspace calming my anxiety, I am in a rage with them over there unethical behaviour. I want my money back – – now.
