If you’re are in a hurry for a vehicle…

If you’re are in a hurry for a vehicle and find one that has to be shipped to a location near you be very prepared for a long wait. In my case I paid the shipping fee and it won’t be at the location near me for almost another week. This is almost 2 weeks after I paid to have it shipped. If the shipping fee was refundable I would cancel it all together

If you buy a car from the Kenner CarMax, you are rolling the dice. Do not trust their advertised "125-point inspection."

I bought a Hyundai Kona and took it to a highly-rated local mechanic for a post-purchase inspection. Here is what CarMax supposedly missed:An active rodent nest packed next to the battery (a huge risk for chewed wiring).A dangerously empty engine coolant reservoir.A jagged hole broken right out of the top plastic engine cover. They either completely skipped the inspection or knowingly sold me a dangerous vehicle. To make matters worse, when I brought the car back to exercise my 10-day return guarantee, the staff stonewalled me. They made me sit in the lobby for over an hour, refusing to let me speak to a manager or process my return paperwork. It was a blatant stall tactic designed to frustrate me into keeping a defective car. Protect yourself and avoid this location.

But On The Lot -- Don't Have One Shipped

In the last handful of years I have bought 2 vehicles from Carmax. As long as they are on the lot and you like the vehicle, everything is perfect. Good deal, no pressure to buy needless warranties or add ons -- just pay for what you want and drive off. However, if you find one at a Carmax in another city, it's will be an entirely different experience. We had a Cadillac XT5 shipped from the east to Las Vegas -- $1999 non-refundable shipping charge -- and after countless delays with little or no real time tracking, a beat up, smelly semblance of an XT5 showed up. It looked as if it had been used as a delivery van and there were cockroaches crushed and left in more than one door jamb. Worse of all, we called the Carmax where it was originally and asked if there was any smoke or other smells in the vehicle and were assured there were none. We are now waiting for another vehicle to be shipped, coming from Oxnard, CA to Reno, NV -- again, at a certain point, no real time notification of where it is or when it will be in Reno -- from the 18th of February 2026 until today, February 22nd, 2026, just a blurb that it is "Moving through California shipping network". So, bottom line, find one on the lot -- do NOT have one shipped.

There is NO WAY they inspect these cars properly

CAR: 28009657 Lexus LC 500I paid $ 150 to bring a high end $80K+ Lexus up from LA to test drive in Northern California. When I went to test drive, a brief walk around showed terrible defects that were not disclosed on the web listing. Hood was misaligned and UNDER the fender. No panel gap It could not open without yanking it sideways. The passenger mirror had been sideswiped. Lexus are famous for their panel gaps - no way this was "normal". I protested , pointed out the obvious problems that were NOT documented and did not even test drive it. Eventually they gave me my $ back. But.... I noticed a few days later that the car was being shipped to CarMax in San Jose - it was "reserved" for a test drive. Last week when I checked the link it kept saying reserved. Today it says "Available". So whoever was going to test drive saw the same mess that I saw. If you click on History & Inspection - there is a link to "Cosmetic Imperfections" . They still have not updated it with the passenger mirror problems AND the hood being misaligned. They also document under "View history report " - No accidents. It has obviously been in an accident. So dishonest.

I purchased a 2018 Kia Niro from CarMax…

I purchased a 2018 Kia Niro from CarMax Boynton Beach for $18,000. The vehicle had an A/C defect at the time of purchase, which was repaired before delivery.Since then, the exact same issue has been repaired four times. During the last repair visit, I was told that if the issue occurred again, CarMax would repurchase the vehicle. The defect has now returned again. However, CarMax is offering only $8,000, citing depreciation and minor cosmetic issues. This is not normal wear and tear — it is a recurring mechanical defect present since the date of sale.Very disappointed in how this situation is being handled. I expected CarMax to stand behind its representations.

Badly trained.

I took in my title which is titled to our trust. Not one person in the business office knew how to deal with a title that has a trust as owner. I even called customer service (technician) who told me she didn’t know about trust titles and to go into the dealership early Monday morning. The business employees said they needed to call the techies but none are available on the weekend. Uh, I called on the weekend so that’s not true!! I was also told they needed to see the entire trust which is volumes of paper!! I had the three papers my lawyer said to use. It was very frustrating to hear not one person knew what to do! Needless to say Carmax lost a sale and I told a large lunch group about the chaos. That’s ten people who either knew Carmax was inferior to other car dealerships, or they agreed to stay away from them. I ended up at a Kia dealership that bought my car in an hour and a half for the same amount of money!! On to Carvana

Nightmare

I bought a car at this location a year ago and had a great experience. Therefore, when I decided to purchase another car, I went to them. I reserved one car and waited for it to be shipped to Reno. When it got here several days later, they contacted me to say there was a problem with the title and they couldn't sell me the car. So, I ordered another one. It was in Stockton and there was a $99 shipping charge, which I paid. Two days later, they sent me a text to let me know that it was in Rocklin, which is about two hours away. Today, I got a text saying it is in Fresno and asking me to schedule an appointment to come in to test drive it. FRESNO!!!???!!! I called Carmax and spent nearly an hour on the phone trying to figure out why it had been 2 hours away, and is now 5 hours away. I finally spoke to a manager, and he said that when I went online to reserve the car, I had requested it be sent to Fresno. That is total BS; I'd sooner send my unruly dog to live with Kristi Noem than send anything to Fresno. They offered to waive the transfer fee to send it to Reno, but it will take another week, and I am without a car. This whole experience has been ridiculous. Luckily, there are options when looking for a car. My recommendation is to find a different one.

We purchased 4 cars over the years with carmax. Each experience was good. The last experience seemed to take hours to get it all done but in the end, they overlooked a minor dent in trade in and replaced tire that caught a nail in it for free. Sales people we dealt with were knowledgable and friendly. I will always check out carmax car deals before going anywhere else.

No major complaints

We financed a car from them and everyone on the sales floor was pleasant. While the process was very efficient there were some questions regarding full transparency after our warranty expired. Overall everything was good , but buying a used car always leaves room for questions. Our car was definitely way over market price— still owe $14k on our 2015 Honda Accord after two years of payments.

I’ve purchased multiple cars from CarMax over the years and have consistently had a great experience. It’s the ease of doing business and not having to negotiate that truly sets them apart. The pricing is transparent, the process is straightforward, and I always receive excellent service. As a woman, that peace of mind matters. I’ve never felt pressured — just respected and supported. I also purchased the extended warranty, which gave me even more confidence in my decision. Reliable, honest, and simple — that’s why I keep coming back

You are no better than the 'Sleazy" car…

You are no better than the 'Sleazy" car salesmen you profess to be better than. Just had THE worst experience ever at your location.I will NEVER be back and make sure and tell all my friends what a POS outfit you're running over there. You purposely send quotes you have no intension of keeping just to get customers in the door. You should be ashamed of yourselves!I held up my end of the bargain only to be lowballed and then fed a bunch of BS and then when called out on it all management could say was "we're sorry we're not the buyers" WELL WHO THE HELL IS GIVING THE QUOTES THEN? What a POS process you have. DO BETTER CARMAX!I will make sure and leave as many reviews regarding my experience as humanely possible.Sincerely,Scott

Devastated in less than four month!!!

I bought a Kia from Carmax and less than four months later the car engine went out. The warranty sold to me was no use. They required me to spend money in segments costing thousands of dollars. I will buy nothing from them again nor would I recommend them to my worst enemy.JG

CarMax Easton: FAILURE

CarMax Easton is a failure of leadership and integrity that falls far short of the "Vet-friendly" standards our community expects. After waiting three weeks for a 1,000-mile shipment, Manager Tyra compromised the mission by demanding specifications not required by the lender, inventing her own rendition of car max police, and creating a petty, unprofessional atmosphere. Vets should beware: this store lacks the dignity and basic respect essential to our culture.

Absolutely the worst buying experience…

Absolutely the worst buying experience I've ever encountered in my 40 years of buying cars. They sold me a car that was dangerous to drive. The battery was so corroded that a wire rotted off and left the car completely dead. Luckily the car was parked and not being driven. If it had been driven the car would have died leaving a locked steering wheel and no breaks. CarMax "claimed" it did it's 125-point inspection but they clearly did not. The radio speakers were blown, the windshield wiper fluid tank was missing its cap and the battery was completely rotten. DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM CARMAX, it's a crapshoot. There are many other places to buy do yourself a favor and stay away from CarMax.

Carmax

Carmax thats not the way car buying should be!!! you sell people cars and make them go through Santander where the loan is high and over budget with the Apr then the cars you sell used be lemons and you sell that crappie warranty to people then when they try to get there car fix you say it aint covered or either they ran over there miles people please do not go here for a car its better car places than this they need to fix everything about this company, thats why they was doing claims for Santander recently because they was getting over on people!!!

Bought my car from CarMax on 09/19/25…

Bought my car from CarMax on 09/19/25 and it has been a nightmare ever since. The vehicle has been with CarMax since before Thanksgiving due to a dangerous issue they admit exists but cannot fix. Because of this, I was denied a loaner and denied rental coverage through the warranty.I missed the holidays with my family, spent hundreds on Uber, missed work, and nearly lost my job due to attendance points — all because CarMax failed to provide transportation or a resolution. No reimbursement, no accountability, and no solution. Completely unacceptable. I would never recommend CarMax.

DO NOT BUY FROM CARMAX!!

DO NOT BUY FROM CARMAX!!! Literally the worst car-buying experience I’ve ever had. Seven months ago I paid $18k in cash for a 2014 Cadillac with 70k miles and it is already completely UNDRIVEABLE. Within 5 months of buying the car we’d spent $1400 on repairs (driver’s seat stopped adjusting and an air bag sensor came on) and now, 7 months after purchase, we are having to replace the rear differential, a $5k expense. CarMax has been totally unhelpful and seems to stand behind this as a fair deal. I’ve been buying used cars my entire life, usually cars with 100k-ish miles and I’ve never faced anything like this. Our mechanic said that the oil hasn’t been changed in 15k miles, the fluids clearly weren’t checked and the battery is failing. In addition to all that, CARMAX promised to take care of tagging the car with the DMV as a “benefit” of purchasing with them. The 90 day temp tags expired without a call, text, email… any communication at all. We had to call them and demand a rental to drive for the 3 additional weeks it took for them to get the tags processed. And I have proof of sending the insurance info to them with more than enough time to have gotten it done before the temp tags expired. I honestly think the only reason it got done at all is because we called and harassed them about it. It would have been easier to deal with the DMV and just handle it myself.Their attempt at customer service consisted of acknowledging that I'm right about my complaints, that I'm not being unreasonable and the deal I got was not acceptable and then promptly followed that up with total unwillingness to assist in any way. Unbelievable, unacceptable and honestly just pathetic.

Bought my 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon…

Bought my 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon through CarMax and also used CarMax Auto Finance. They make it nearly impossible to make a payment. After changing my phone number with them, they send sign in verification to my old number EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! Or they lock you out of your account constantly so you cannot make a payment. So if I want to make a payment I have to pay MoneyGram a very large fee to do so. I think they do this type of stuff on purpose to make it hard for you, then they can repossess the vehicle and try to make you pay still after they sell it dirt cheap at auction. Won't happen with me though I will file for bankruptcy on it without hesitation. The vehicle will sometimes run in warm weather but after a few minutes every single warning light goes off while driving it. It says the stabilizing system failed, the shifter also constantly locks up and a warning light comes on also stating that the sway bar is all bad, if I turn it off while these lights are on it will not start back up at all even in warm weather, then I have to get a ride home or to finish doing what I have to do then to go home. It sits more than it gets to drive. Auto start NEVER works at all. Overall the vehicle is just a piece of junk. Part of me would rather just let it go and file bankruptcy on it. It would make my life a lot less stressful. I already always have to pay another ride to take me to and from everywhere I have to go. I am really thinking about letting it go now, filing bankruptcy on it and giving the burden to anyone else but myself. It's one of the most stressful ordeals I've dealt with. Just tired and fed up with it. I should have went with Ally Auto for financing so I could at least make my payments with ease. When I went with Ally in the past I was able to make my payments without all of the headache. I never quit paying my loan when I went through Ally either. I bought this vehicle around 2 to 2.5 years ago. I'm just about done with it.
