Everything is awful

FSA claim process is awful. The website constantly glitches. I have to submit claims multiple times before they show up. Customer service was totally clueless

Customer Services team has no…

Customer Services team has no connection with their back office operational staff. updates and status of pending transactions are non existent. When I asked to speak with a supervisor, customer services could not connect me, stating a supervisor would call back, I never received a call. Hard to understand how an organization can exist long term operating in this capacity.

I have been unable to access the funds…

I have been unable to access the funds in my optumbank account, and the experience has been extremely frustrating.despite reaching out to customer support several time i did not receive any helpful assistance or resolution to the problem.Because of this ongoing issue and the lack of effective support, I decided to close my account.

Sent a certified letter with the…

Sent a certified letter with the paperwork to close my account post office said it was delivered they say never got it uploaded it directly to there website a 2nd time never got it meanwhile my social security # was on the paperwork both times i had to freeze my credit and pay for monitoring service for a year this company has been nothing short of a nightmare please for your own health stay away.

I would give less than 1 star if I could. Always have to reattach documentation to my claim after documentation was already submitted with the claim. I usually have to call anywhere from 2-4x on ONE claim that had already been submitted WITH the documentation. I wish my employer would go with another business for FSA/HSA/DCA than Optum. Also, answers vary from customer service representative to customer service representative. Pretty much a nightmare company! I worried about the money I have in my HSA for future use. I do take screenshots of what I have in my HSA because I’m afraid that one day I will get on the site and the money will be gone.

I’ve been paying for HSA benefits since January we are now in March and I have no been able to use it at all. They sent the first card to the wrong address and second card does not work. They will give you a million different excuses when you call. This feels extremely illegal

Our HSA account nightmare started January 1 2026

Our HSA account started January 1, 2026. We were told we were not in the system. They hung up on us several times pretending they had tech problems. Phone call # 5 and they claimed they “found us” in the system but to “call back next week” so data entry could put us in the System. What?? Umm…Our money is there but we aren’t?? 7 weeks now and still no access to our Health savings account. Same issues as everyone else. We are Calling HR to hopefully stop any money being sent to these people. Definitely a scam! Hopefully Class action lawsuits will be in the future, and we see some of our money again.

Terrible organization full of incompetent people

High fees, poor customer service.Even when my employer changed to a better HSA and I wanted the transfer my funds out I hit problems. First I had to liquidate all investments - so I checked the "sell 100%" on each investment.Two weeks later when my new HSA tried to pull the funds they prevented it because there was $3.27 left in one investment. When I called their customer service agent basically stated this was my fault, so I hung up and called back.Now I've had weeks where I can't invest my HSA funds due to their terrible software, incompetence, and poor customer service.To any employer thinking of using Optum, only use them if you really want to upset your employees.

Optum Financial sucks

Optum Financial sucks. They declined my card at an urgent care and said there was something wrong with the merchant transaction machine. That's total BS. Avoid doing business with Optum altogether. I won't be doing my FSA through them next year.

Negative Experience

I had an issue with my HSA when I tried moving to a different HSA account. They straight up lied about two things: 1. Said that since my employer makes contributions to the HSA account that my employer "bypassed" my request to move my funds, which is why it was or was not declined. They could not verbally confirm what exactly was going on with my request. Kept said there was a "discrepancy." (To clarify your employer CANNOT mess with your HSA like that but customer service said they did)2. The account supervisor I spoke with said she submitted a case for it to be reviewed and sent the case ticket information to my email address. She gave me the case number and she took down my email address. Nothing was ever sent. I highly do not recommend using Optum Financial. I only use it cause of my employer but you will be losing money if you ever invest your HSA funds with them. Random fees and they take a cut of any money you make when you invest your funds.

Run don't walk!

Stay away from this company! They make it practically impossible to use your FSA card. Amazon will not accept it, and the will never accept documentation for medical visits. Always needs "additional information". Scam! I've wasted many, many hours trying to resolve issues. Very few reps speak English well enough to be understood.

If devil was to take the form of a…

If devil was to take the form of a business and healthcare was not an option, it would be optum bank. They have been preventing my rollover request that I have already made twice in 3 months and now want me to submit a form for the third time. WHy? Because they cannot figure out how to handle few cents of interest in the account. Their solution is to stop rollover of funds entirely so that can continue keeping your funds hostage because of their outdated systems to earn that extra interest income and fees.

System Failures and Useless Support – Avoid Optum Bank

I am writing this review to warn others about the utter lack of support at Optum Bank. During the height of tax season, I found myself locked out of my account. This happens, but what followed was inexcusable.Their automated password reset tool was down, so I called customer service. After waiting to speak to a human, I was informed that they had zero ability to help me manually reset my password. Their only solution? "Try again in a few hours. Or maybe tomorrow."It is baffling that a financial institution does not have a manual override for a broken automated system. I am now blocked from accessing my essential tax information with no timeline for a fix. This level of technical incompetence and lack of agent empowerment is frightening for a bank. Take your business elsewhere.

Loves Denying Valid Medical Expenses with Receipts

Same thing everyone else is experiencing. Filed a claim including a receipt for my medical expense. They denied the claim. The claim has all the information required by the IRS. Avoid if you can if you like getting YOUR medical expense money. Make sure you only upload Explanation of benefits unless you like wasting your time.

Ridiculous fees and zero support

A scam bank with ridiculous fees and zero support. They charge a monthly fee for an HSA if you don't maintain a minimum balance, but that becomes impossible if you later gain other health insurance and can no longer contribute. They also charged a fee to close my account, something that should be illegal. Their website sucks...for a month I was unable to sell off my HSA investments because of a glitch in their system. When I called for help, their customer support was worthless; the person on the phone could do NOTHING to help me. The worst bank I've ever dealt with.

Crooks - hold your money as long as they can

Every time I call i get different directions on what is required. They're making up rules - you have to sign the receipt, we need more information, etc. Submitted 10 claims with almost identical documentation, only got 3 approved, and the rest were claimed to not have dates on them, even though they all clearly had dates on them. Optum makes up whatever they can to hold on to your money!

Their technology is pathetic

Their technology is pathetic. It took 4 tries over the course of 2 weeks to connect my bank account for an online deposit. Customer service was not able to help and said they have glitches in the system.Worse, it does not allow a deposit on the last day of the year, even though the 31st,2025 is not a weekday or a holiday. I am moving my HSA account.

Denied Legitimate Charges Multiple Times

Multiple times for clearly legitimate charges from the same provider Optum has denied the charge saying I need more information.I have had to call to follow up several times for small charges often less than $50 that are clearly from healthcare providers.
