Metro Hop Scam Tactics

On November 4, 2025, I called Metro Hop to receive an estimate to move my household goods from NY to NC. I spoke with Chuck Connelly, Metro Hop sales rep, and he assured me that Metro Hop was a military friendly company, thereby they will not charge me any fees if my moving plans change. Chuck informed me that a deposit was needed to reserve my moving request at a discounted price. He stated that Metro Hop would not take the deposit on American Express and only on a Visa. Again, he assured me that a refund would be given if requested. On November 5, 2025 at 10:30 am, I spoke with Chuck Connelly, and clearly informed him that I was cancelling the moving request from the prior day and requested a refund of my deposit of $4931.00. He said that the deposit would be refunded in a week. I called to check on the status of the refund on November 13, 2025, and customer service representative informed me that Chuck had incorrectly added notes about calling back to attempt to renegotiate a new sales price. I informed her that Chuck had falsely added those notes. I was informed by her to submit a request for the refund in writing via email, because the refund will not be processed until Metro Hop has the refund request in writing. I sent the email, requesting the immediate refund, to the address I was given immediately after speaking to the Metro Hop customer service representative. To date Metro Hop has not refunded my money and tells me that a Visa investigation must run its course, and that usually takes 90 days. After researching the internet regarding Metro Hop reviews, there are multiple complaints of similar stories where consumers are scammed by Metro Hop. Metro Hop has lied to me and taken my money without providing any service. Please record this complaint and warn other consumers of this company's unscrupulous tactics.

Metro Hop Relocation in Boston was…

Metro Hop Relocation in Boston was amazing for our move to Nashville. Will in sales worked out a complicated schedule for us and made sure everything stayed on track. The movers were quick, efficient, and took great care of our items. For professional long distance movers, this is the team you want.

Metro Hop Movers surprising over charges

Review for Metro Hop MoversI had a truly awful experience with Metro Hop Movers, and I feel compelled to warn others. My contract clearly stated a cost of $1,890, but when the move was finished, I was shocked to see an additional $800 in hidden charges added on top. Even though I requested a video call beforehand to confirm cubic feet measurements and avoid surprises, the company still piled on fees that were never explained upfront. The problems didn’t stop there. The movers arrived without basic packing materials — no boxes for my couch pillows, and nothing for my TV. The driver himself admitted that the company should have informed me about what items I needed to pack in advance. Instead, they slapped on another $150 charge just to wrap and cover the TV, which was never mentioned before moving day. To make matters worse, they even charged me an extra $50 for the tape they used to wrap my belongings. That kind of nickel-and-diming is unacceptable and shows a complete lack of professionalism. This lack of transparency, preparation, and honesty turned what should have been a straightforward move into a stressful and costly nightmare. I felt blindsided, frustrated, and taken advantage of at every step. A moving company should prioritize clear communication and arrive properly equipped, but Metro Hop Movers failed on both counts.Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company. If you do consider them, demand every detail in writing, confirm they will bring the necessary supplies, and be prepared for hidden charges. Otherwise, you may end up paying far more than expected, just like I did.

Scammers. Do not use!

They failed to book a mover for the two-day window I gave them. When movers finally showed up, Metro Hop had not disclosed that a piano was involved. They also did not tell the movers that packing was involved. Both were on the quote from Metro Hop but NOT with the movers. Final bill was TWICE what Metro Hop quoted and move had to be delayed further.

SCAM

They are a scam moving broker, hiring scam moving companies to continue ripping you off despite claiming they only work with reputable movers. - MetroHop charges by volume instead of weight, (easier to manipulate and harder to confirm), to get away with over charging you. They and the moving company (Cita Van Lines) significantly over-estimated and over-charged the volume/cost of my shipment by nearly double. -MetroHop provides estimates site-unseen, allowing scam moving companies to claim you have more belongings than anticipated on moving day and increase your estimate. I was charged $2300 for this bogus, inaccurate estimate. Binding estimate fees are not considered reputable practice. -MetroHop representative, Mia Alexander promised me a 3-5 day delivery, and then produced a contract that, unknown to me at the time, allowed up to 30 business days/6 weeks for delivery. The movers took 27 days, causing me to spend hundreds of dollars on things I needed during the time they held my belongings. I delayed starting my job so I could unpack, which was completely wasted, resulting in me losing out on an entire month’s salary. I have reached out to Mia numerous times via phone and email regarding this massive deception on her part and have received no reply. -MetroHop did not relay my updated inventory to the movers and lied about what was covered in the estimate. This may not matter since the initial estimate is a fraud anyway. A separate metro hop employee called just prior to the move to get an updated count on my belongings. He told me this updated count was still well within the estimated volume. When the movers came they only had the original list and not the updated one, and then charged me extra claiming it exceeded the estimated cubic footage. They also charged me extra for TV boxes which Metro Hop claimed were covered in my estimate.I have moved myself several times in the past by renting moving trucks. I hired movers this time around hoping to save myself some trouble, and it was the biggest mistake. All Metro Hop and Cita Van Lines did was charge me substantially more money to hold my belongings hostage for a month, and cause me needless additional stress. There was no service provided here, only lies and theft.
