Overall the training course was very good in terms of how to handle the challenges of dealing with a person with autism. I was especially moved by your passion on the subject which included personal details of your son. Also the way you were able to understand the difficulties of a first responder’s job and at the same time give accounts of what it is being a parent of autistic child was very important to hear. This training was by far the best I’ve ever experienced. Thank you for sharing your story and for being very genuine about this matter.
Very simple but informative template to follow when dealing with people on the spectrum.
The way it was broken down. All first responders should not handle jobs of this nature with a preconceived notion.
This was an amazing course. My 7 year old son is autistic and is mainly non-verbal. It gave me a great comfort to know that there are courses out there for law enforcement agencies around the country.
Jerry brings a different point of view to training by using his personal experiences and provides valuable lessons and learning that cant be argued. As an ASD father and ASD instructor myself, I still found a ton a value in his training and will recommend it to others.
My experience was an eye opening experience due to the lack of knowledge I had in autism and in the perception of factors that Police Officers have for normal people are not the norm for people that have Autism.
Content is excellent. Really broadens the knowledge base and how to approach individuals who are on the spectrum. Would have been a 5 star rating, however, the instructor continuously touches his nose throughout the presentation, which drew my attention away from the material. Not sure if the instructor is aware of that.
Great course for everyone and much more for individuals who have autistic in their families or may encounter anyone who may be in the spectrum
It was very knowledgeable
Extremely informative and instructive on how to interact with autistic individuals. The techniques taught on how to search for missing autistic child were critical. Lastly the instructor was engaging and passionate about the subject matter I could listen to him for hours .
As a law enforcement professional with experience across multiple roles — corrections, local and county patrol, and advising a youth law organization — I found that hearing this information from the perspective of a fellow LEO and parent created a connection that civilian‑led presentations have not. That dual perspective bridged the gap between professional realities and personal responsibilities in a way that felt both relevant and authentic.
Excellent topic of discussion and the Trainer was very knowledgeable and had real life experience with the topic. Highly recommend to all Law Enforcement and security personnel to take this training.
Not just informative and educational but provided real world examples and testimony that ground us on how real and close to home all this actually is. Providing actual tactic and strategy in response, with true approaches and methods all help tremendously. Thank you for your hard work and all the contribution to this cause.
Great training! I thought I knew a lot about children on the spectrum, but I was mistaken. All LE agencies should include this training and it should also be taught in the police academy.
I am a retired Police Officer, 25 years of service. I am currently a part time SRO in a Special Ed school with children of all ages with autism. This was very informative! I feel I learned a lot !
This was an eye opening training, would recommend this be taken by the entire Law Enforcement Community Nation wide.
Very valuable information, great questions we as dispatchers can ask to help responders be more prepared to search upon arrival.
Very good presentation I really learned a lot
The fact that Captain Turning has an autistic child made the experience much more real. I have a niece with an autistic child and this training has given me many viewpoints I never considered. I will also be discussing this with my niece so she is somewhat prepared in advance should this ever happen to her child. He has pinpointed the real questions that need to be asked of the guardian.
