Great, supportive provider with excellent tutors

I had a brilliant experience with Barbri during my time doing the SQE. The process they have is engaging with multiple opportunities to get feedback meaning that when you enter the exam process, you go in feeling prepared. In my experience with the course, I was fortunate enough to be supported by the excellent Joanne White who went above and beyond for me. Highly recommend.

Fees not transparent, company not flexible, last time I will spend money with Barbri.

Barbri offered a 15% discount on their SQE 1 prep course over this past Black Friday, which I took advantage of. I received emails after my purchase confirming the £200 deposit I paid but not the total amount that would be due in January when the course started. Come to find out that the 'SQE Essentials' bundle was added to my SQE 1 prep somewhere in the purchase process, which is a further £400 before discount that I did not wish to sign up for, but apparently did in error. The additional cost for this was not confirmed to me in email until 4 January. On 5 January I raised the issue that I did not intend to order Essentials and that I had only become aware I had done so when I received an email showing the higher than expected total cost. Barbri declined to cancel the Essentials course, citing a 14-day cooling off period and 'student fairness' as their reason. Barbri is not a school and is not accreditated by any body, and I am not a student, but a paying customer of their self-study prep service. I don't yet have an experience of the quality of their offering, but I am left with the choice of either forefeitting £200 or paying for a course I did not want and have taken elsewhere. After a call and two email exchanges, Barbri has held firm.Be careful of what you buy from this company and be sure to understand the total amount you're paying as Barbri may not communicate it to you until it's too late to 'cool off' (or in my case, simply be aware before any use of the materials that I was about to pay for something I didn't intend to order). I will never use this company again and I would share this story to anyone else who would reasonably expect that a company standing to gain thousands more from me if my experience is positive would be flexible when I state my concerns before the 'course' starts, and not after.

I think Barbri offered detailed and…

I think Barbri offered detailed and organized study plan. This is the most important part because I was overwhelmed by all of the topics. Since Barbri offered me a good, organized study plan I managed to pass the SQE. Thank you

Very well structured course

Very well structured course, designed to turn passive knowledge of law into ability to apply and skill to apply as required by exam. Personal approach, friendly and efficient. Lot's of possibility to get feedback and ask questions.

I used BARBRI and passed SQE first attempt

I used BARBRI for both SQE1 and SQE2 and passed each on my first attempt. The course materials are very detailed, well-structured, and easy to digest. The platform used for sqe1 kept me on track, and the practice questions and mock exams were especially helpful. Sqe2 platform was slightly confusing and complex to navigate.

A great preparation tailored to your needs, would recommend!

Very flexible time schedule which you can create and even adjust yourself during the course, optimal resources focusing on what you really need without going into unnecessary depth if not needed, and great service where you can ask a legal professional substantive questions.

The course was detailed and simplified…

The course was detailed and simplified but most of all the support was second to none. The questions although not all were reflective of much of the exam. I only dropped one star as I think that in terms of pricing for the additional practice mocks Barbri ought to be much less expensive than it currently, is at least for its subscribers.

SQE1

I like the structure and the layout of the course. The study guides are very good at digesting complex law into bite size pieces. I felt the multiple choice questions weren't representative of the actual questions in the SQE1 exam.

Ease of use was exceptional

Ease of use was exceptional, the only thing that could be better was the difficulty level of mocks

Materials good but software and support poor

The materials themselves are quite good and I do believe they can get good results. However, the software and the support offered is appalling. I have tried to get the books downloaded and have almost lost the will to live. I have enlisted to the help of very computer savvy people and still can't download them. The support team are almost useless and clearly get irritated if you ask for help. The initially gave me the wrong telephone number and since then, when, on the only occasion I did get through as opposed to leaving a message, I was told curtly that this is because they only have a small team of five. I suspect that the emails are all sent to the US of answering. The service levels are poor.I had to call the US to actually get a correct phone number for the support team. When using the online tools you are completely dumped out of the software. I shall persevere with them but they are the most frustrating organisation who seem to have little regard for their customers. Have just read their reply and I can say that my issues have been sorted. The software is not perfect and does irritating things but it works. Have upgraded my score to 4

Very disappointed with Barbri’s recent changes

I was shocked to find that all the SQE1 lecture videos and textbooks have been removed from the SQE2 course. I contacted the learning team, and they confirmed that this was an intentional change as part of their “update” to the SQE2 course.According to Barbri, they’ve replaced all SQE1 materials with a new SQE2 workbook that supposedly includes only the law needed for SQE2. They claim this will help students focus and save time. However, in reality, the new workbook is far too condensed and lacks the depth and clarity that the SQE1 lectures and FLK books provided.Their response also stated that the SQE1 lectures were purely focused on understanding basic legal principles, which misses the point entirely. Those lectures were invaluable in reinforcing the black letter law that forms the foundation of SQE2. Without a solid grasp of that law, you can’t properly apply it in the client-focused assessments, and Barbri’s own justification shows a misunderstanding of how critical that knowledge is.What makes this even worse is that Barbri’s own website explicitly states that the SQE2 course “includes access to the relevant SQE1 Prep course materials to refresh your FLK knowledge.” Yet, in practice, that access has been completely removed, directly contradicting what’s advertised. They’ve also said there are FLK revision videos in week 20 of the course, but these are nowhere near as comprehensive as the SQE1 lecture series. Most of these “bitesize” videos are only a few minutes long and fail to explain the law in any meaningful way from start to finish.I’ve spoken to many other students who feel exactly the same way. The SQE1 lectures were one of the few things that truly made Barbri’s course stand out. Removing them, along with the detailed FLK books, is a massive step backward and a very poor decision from Barbri. The overall course quality now feels stripped down, less intuitive, and far less supportive.Very disappointed and would strongly reconsider recommending Barbri to anyone preparing for the SQE2 under this new setup.REPLY TO YOUR RESPONSE:Thank you for your response, but I would like further clarification on an important issue that your reply did not address:What was the specific justification for removing the SQE1 lecture videos from the SQE2 course?A large number of SQE2 students did not complete SQE1 with BARBRI, or were exempt from SQE1 entirely, and therefore relied heavily on those lecture series to properly understand and revisit the black-letter law before applying it in the client-focused SQE2 assessments. The lectures were one of the few comprehensive resources that actually explained the law in depth, and their removal has created a significant gap in the course. Several fellow students have raised the same concerns. The “bitesize” FLK videos are not an adequate replacement. They are short, inconsistently scattered across the course, and do not cover the full syllabus in the way the SQE1 lecture series did. For many of us, the SQE1 lectures were not “unnecessary duplication” but essential support to ensure a solid grasp of the legal foundation that SQE2 still expects. If the goal was to streamline the course, then why not retain optional access to the SQE1 lecture videos for students who genuinely need them, particularly those who never received that foundational teaching from BARBRI?I would appreciate a clear explanation of the reasoning behind completely removing these lecture videos. This decision has had a real impact on student preparedness, and greater transparency would be very helpful.

I passed the bar with flying colors…

I passed the bar with flying colors after completing the barbri course. However, I think the barbri course may have been harder than the bar, so I went into the bar with below average scores on barbri. However, I passed with an 312! Overall, I would recommend this service to a friend!

Great Diversity of Materials

Barbri did a great job of presenting the information I needed in a diverse way. Having a mix of videos, readings, multiple choice practice, and essay practice kept things as interesting as bar prep can be.

Overall

Overall, I feel the professors / lectures were knowledgeable and did their best to make sure Barbri students were fully prepared for the bar. However, a couple of the professors (contracts specifically) skipped around quite a bit and made it incredibly difficult to follow and keep up with the course material. Thank you.

The material is great and I would use the outline to go thru some of the detail in a strategic manner.

The material is great and I would recommend a better introduction and use of the outline. I failed my first bar and did not use the outline at all but figured out I should use the outline midway through my 2nd chance at the bar.
