I gave African Sunset Travels $5000 in June 2023 for a refundable deposit for a trip planned in September 2024.I researched this company very thoroughly before I gave my deposit and these negative reviews were not there or I wouldn’t have booked with them.We are from the US and traveling with another couple from Australia who also gave a $5000 deposit.We unfortunately are getting the same excuses as listed in the reviews, such as cash flow problems and waiting on vendors (hotels) to reimburse them our money. I contacted each hotel we supposedly had a reservation for and sadly there was no reservation for us at any of the hotels. This makes me very angry and I will continue to fight to get my money back!Do not give them a penny of your money! THEY ARE SCAMMERS AND WON’T RETURN PHONE CALLS, TEXTS, OR EMAILS.

We decided not to travel due to the logistics with our family. I have been waiting for our $15000US refund since September 2023. They continue to tell me its a cash flow problem and be patient. I even agreed to refund us in 3 installments but haven't seen anything in my paypal account to date. Dont risk travelling with this company

This company Sunsets in Africa or Africa sunsets travel has scammed our group of over $30,000 dollars. We were told it was a cash flow problem. We have had several promises of repayment. We were informed on October 5, 2023 our fifth day on safari, that the accommodations were not being paid for the next 10 days of our trip. We had promises of Giraffe manor and a tour of Nairobi which the subcontractor had no idea. It started out bad and just got worse. We spent hours renegotiating our trip and then paying for it twice. We have found out that others were also scammed this month.

Avoid this company at all costs!. It's a scam. This company is also known as Africa Sunsets Travel, Sunsetsinafricatravel (IG), Travelvictoriafalls and AfricaSunsets.com (website located in South Africa managed by Dexter Angel/Chikerema and Gladys Angel. My friends and I, a group of 7 recently got scammed by this company for over 30k US$. We paid for a 15-day Safari in Kenya/ Tanzania and services were not paid for. We were stuck nowhere in Kenya figuring out where we going to stay. The trip was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and turned out to be the worst experience ever. This company put my group under so much stress and lost a lot of money. Hoping this company will get shut down to avoid more people getting scammed.

Went on Kenya&Tanzania Safari Tour using African Sunsets Travel/ Sunsets in Africa/ Xplore2Africa based in South Africa dated 10/1/23 to 10/15/23. We are 7 people & paid total US$37,000. I personally paid US$6,800. Services was not rendered. Mr. Dexter Chikerema( owner of travel agency) purposely defaulted financial obligations to subcontractors in Kenya & Tanzania including hotel/lodge/park fees etc. No feedback/response inspite of multiple calls & text messages. Police report was filed as advised by US Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya. He then only responded via text stating his revolving cash flow/ credit was insufficient. He spent our money to some other tours. I ended covering the cost again in lesser amount but still expensive just like rest of the group individually in order to complete the tour. Failure to pay us back with false promises. Future travelers, be wary ! The company/ owner reputation is a BIG question mark!!

Namibia, Lost for Words
In September we booked and we had the best Namibia experience with Sunsets in Africa. Gladys arranged a very nice luxury private lodge safari. The guide was alvin, a very nice knowledgable man and he gave us the best side on Namibia. Namibia offers the best authentic safari experiences in culture and wildlife. Pleasant guides, last minute downgrade in hotels
Pleasant guides, but deceptive marketing. We bought a 12 day tour to Kenya and Tanzania largely on the prospectus which said we’d spend two days in Ngorngoro NP and a day Taragiere NP with overnight stays in each. The African Sunset folks changed our hotels while on our trip, eliminating the stay in Ngorngoro all together ( actually ended up 4 hours away in a small hotel with no electricity after 9 pm). The itinerary listed Sopa Lodge in Tarangiere was changed to a small hotel in Arusha the capital city. Never got to Tarangiere NP at all because of time. From other reviews this is a strategy AS uses to market but then bait and switch to their profit. Beware and I’ll look elsewhere when we come back.

In January ’22 (6 months before our departure date) we booked The Great Kenya & Tanzania PRIVATE Circuit - 13 Days Safari and Cultural Experience offered by Sunsets in Africa.FIRSTLY --We want to make it clear that WE HAVE NO COMPLAINT WITH OUR KENYAN DRIVER/ GUIDE. (His real name is Safari) Safari was informative, polite, and quite a good driver – he made sure we had a great vantage point to view the animals. All the other Kenyan drivers seemed to know and like him. We missed him once we entered Tanzania.The majority of our complaints are a result of Sunsets in Africa's subcontracting our PRIVATE tour to the lowest bidder: TOPHANSTANZANIAADVENTURE.COM The owner of TOPHANSTANZANIAADVENTURE.COM who also became our “guide” in Tanzania was named Hans. After we returned home, we researched Hans’ company and found that Hans’ offers a 12 day tour of Kenya & Tanzania (not 13) with a minimum of 5-6 people (NOT PRIVATE) for 1/3 $ of what we had paid to Sunsets in Africa. This explains A LOT! We blame both SUNSETS IN AFRICA AND TOPHANSTANZANIAADVENTURE.COM for this following, (condenced) negative review: >>>>Our tour was booked and paid for as a PRIVATE party of two, but upon meeting Hans he informed us that we would be traveling with another private party of 2! (Neither party agreed with that arrangement but we were stuck!) >>>>Our PRIVATE tour was also supposed to included nice 4* lodges (Yes, they were nice in Kenya) but when Hans himself took over in Tanzania he took us to a Tent cabin on the outskirts of Serengetti which had a picnic table for a restaurant/bar!! This was Not at all Similar to the Serengetti Serena Lodge on our itinerary!>>>>Hans was NOT a professional guide (he almost never had his radio on in the parks to communicate with the other guides and was always talking or texting on his phone instead of talking to/informing us) >>>>I inquired about the cost of a Night Game Drive and Hans told me that would cost $950.00 USD for 4 people. I declined saying it was out of my budget… Hans replied by asking “so what is your budget?” At that point I had a feeling there was a possibility of a scam so I ended the conversation. A few days later on day 7 of out tour, at Lake Manyara Lodge they offered a night drive for $55.00 USD per person!!! >>>>On day 11, Hans LEFT US STRANDED at our Lake Manyara Lodge until 4pm (1600 hrs.)! He wasted an entire day! >>>>>Instead of transporting us from Arusha to the Nairobi airport himself, Hans hired a man at the border w a VERY SMALL car to take the 4 of us and our luggage from the border to the Nairobi airport. (We had luggage on our laps! for several hours)>>>>We have gone on many private tours around the world, but never had a "guide" as rude, devious, and unprofessional as Hans of TOPHANSTANZANIAADVENTURE.COM .>>>>THE BEST TIP I WOULD GIVE THIS “GUIDE” WOULD BE “HANS GET OUT OF THE TOUR INDUSTRY!”

DEXTER is a wealth of knowledge- great personality- very vibrant, full of educational information, great company, and very competent. He has great attention to detail to make sure that he could provide anything we might need - including getting me to a pharmacy when i needed to.TourThe tour certainly took into account the diversity of South Africa . We saw so many different things - different kinds of forest, with its various trees and loads of wildlife including elephants . The scenery was spectacular - especially fortunate that we saw them on clear days. I know that you have thrown in 15 days of perfect weather - for which we were truly impressed! It was amazing to include interior and ocean - Tsitsikama Forest is not to be missed. There was a good amount of activity each day with not too much down time. Just enough to keep up my journal.AccommodationsOur accommodations far exceeded our expectation. In all cases they were friendly staff, very good food, and well located. DeOpstal was like a 5 star resort in my opinion as was All the others TransportsBoth the pick-up and drop off at the airport were very comfortable and very punctual - our driver-guide was a fantastic competent driver and the vehicle is very luxurious and capable for the sometime poor road conditions. We were very impressed.MealsIn all cases the meals were very good and tasty - well prepared and healthy - we really appreciated the variety and especially the local dishes (including Ostrich). The same was true of all lodges as well as the restaurants.I highly recommend Africa Sunset Travel?Absolutely - definitely - I will be recommending your tour and I will also be taking another in the future - Thank you for a wonderful journey!

What an incredible trip
What an incredible trip, African Sunset Travel pulled off a miracle!! When our flight was cancelled with less than 24 hours before departure and we had to cancel our plans with another company, African Sunset Travel helped us out of a real bind and booked us on a 9 day trip to Botswana and Victoria falls with a one day layover in Nairobi, which ended up being the trip of a lifetime!The accommodations were wonderful & in great locations, the guides were knowledgeable and provided great service, and the office was attentive and always responded quickly to our questions. The prices were very reasonable, a great deal if you consider our last minutes circumstances.I couldn't have asked for more!
