DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY - SCAMMERS! If i could rate less than 1 star, I would. Company failed to return a deposit of £750 after the car was returned on time, no damage and fully fueled. They have refused to reply to any of my emails and refuse to offer any help when I managed to get them on the phone.

**DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM HERE**They are scammers that rip you off. They try and force you to buy 200€ insurance and also charge you 20€ for a cleaning fee. We got a flat tyre and they charged us 300€ and told us we would get an email from the insurance company with a reimbursement. This was 3 weeks ago and we are still waiting to get our insurance money back. I also had to hound them to get our 1050€ deposit back, to which they didn’t reply to any of my emails, calls or text messages. We have had one text back and luckily, most of our deposit. But we have had no contact regarding deductions made from the deposit or insurance that we are still waiting on. Serious lack of professionalism and to call their communication abysmal is an understatement. Save yourself the money and the headache and do not rent from here.

We got a rental car in a package deal with villa (Jet2). Reading the reviews here I was very concerned but really had no need to. Pick up from Split airport was painless although there was the usual additional insurance selling tactics but not too pushy. I opted to just go with the 20 euro wash which along with the hefty deposit is why they lose 1 star as usually you do not have to pay to have the car washed upon return - this was optional as you can wash it yourself but who does this while on holiday!?XLRentacar cars are at the very far end of the car park so be prepared for a good 10 minute walk. We were assigned a Dacia Sandero Stepway which was nearly new (5k miles) and was in great condition. There were however a few very minor scratches and paint chips so I took video and pictures of these and reported back to reception who were fine and noted them on the damage sheet.Returning the car was as simple as dropping it off where you pick it up and handing the keys over. There is no inspection at time of drop off by the staff so make sure you take before and after pics for your own protection! Staff (2 lads on pickup and a lady on drop off) were very polite, not rude at all.There was an initial deposit of 1500 euros which is steep and showed on my credit card immediately. However this was fully refunded the day after dropping the car off.Given the terrible reviews I've read here I was really apprehensive but in the end it was a relatively hassle free experience. Would use again without concern.

Stupid me; We where in a hurry and needed a rental car quickly because we suddenly had to come to Croatia because of femaly matters.So any car would be ok.I did NOT read the reviews in advance…If l did, l would be a warned man…And, yes, the car rent was ok; only 117 euro’s for 4 days, was decent.Then… we arrived as sceduled; 22:30 hours. But!! I had to pay 100 euro extra for ‘being late’!!!And an adition fee for car cleaning!!!So l payed DUBBLE price!!!!So, please, do NOT go to these Criminal company!! They belong in prison

This is probarbly the worst rental car experience ever. Considering that I have rented cars in Spain, Greece, Turkey and so on, this must be the worst rental car experience. First of all we had to pay 110 Euros to move the rental periode one day due to delay of our arrival. Than we had to pay 50 Euros because we where 1 hour late to pick up the car and another 20 Euros for cleaning the car after the return of the rental car, which is the first time in my life I have ever experienced. So before we could pick up the car, I had to spend 170 Euros extra. Than when i got the car, it was so full of marks and scratches that we had to take 40 photos of the car from all angles to secure us against further payments from them. The car was in so bad condition, that I would be emberrased to rent out something like this, and that upon charging us for a lot of extras. The funny thing was that they spend 40 min de deliver us the car, and put it in as a delay, which they cahrged us for. And for the record, which company use 40 min to deliver a pre rented car? And for those who really doubt, I have all the recits from the rental company. I will never rent from them again, even if they where half as cheap as next on the list. This was a really bad experience XL rent a car.

Never ever rent a car from this company. We waited almost 3 hours to get the car with 2 small children, and there was just 2 customers before us. They wanted to charge extra for insurance, they charged us 20€ up front for cleaning and they also charged 165€ when we had to use a different card. We booked a SUV and got a much smaller car. We booked a baby seat that was broken. Never use this rental firm when travelling to Split!

Avoid at all costs, rented a car and turned to collect it, they were closed. Sign on the shutter had telephone numbers but they either rang out or did not connect not recognised). Save yourself time and effort, walk over the road and rent from another company

Rented and received a surprise charge AVOID
Rented an Opel Vivaro for 7 days in Zadar Croatia. Car that was provided was very beaten up, damage all round, and fuel was only 1/4 full. Company messaged me the night after picking up saying they forgot to take pictures, and asked if I could send over WhatsApp, which I did. Returned the car out of hours to catch my early morning flight, returned the keys in the letterbox, and then found a week later a €100 charge on my credit card. When I questioned the charge, I was told this was due to a stain left on one of the seats. I asked them to provide proof, and they sent a picture. Knowing the driver forgot to take pictures on the day I rented the vehicle, and the only pictures he had was the ones I provided, I was sent an image from prior to my rental.I've asked for time stamps of the picture, as this could have been taken years before my rental and the company has now stopped replying to my messages. If I was ever to visit Zadar again, I would choose another, a more honest company.

I wish I could give this place 0 stars instead of 1 star. The place is a SCAM and committing daylight robbery!! We paid for a car online with a card- and went to use the same card with plenty of funds on it to cover the deposit- we were told this card didn’t work- another card was used and tried to charge an extra €165. The woman at the desk is one of the rudest people we have ever met with one intention only- to get her mitts on your money. Do not sign anything or believe anything she says- or pay anything- she will keep adding charges and not show you a contract- she literally makes things up she goes. Tried to charge €70 because the process was taking so long, and kept saying “we can keep going all day” to keep trying to charge money. She then wouldn’t give written confirmation that she had released our deposit. She then tried to charge an extra €300 for trying another card!!!!HER AND THE COMPANY ARE THIEVES. DO NOT USE THIS WASTE OF SPACE OF A HUT IN SPLIT AIRPORT.

I travel 4–5 times a year and regularly rent cars, but XL Rent a Car is by far the worst company I’ve dealt with. What looks like a cheap deal ends up being a scam — they find ways to charge you extra no matter what, and their practices are deceptive and aggressive.When I arrived at their office, I was third in line, and I saw the same situation play out repeatedly. The first customer was at the counter for just a few minutes before refusing to pay for extras he didn’t agree to. Same with the second customer — he also argued and didn’t want to pay.After waiting 1.5 hours, it was finally my turn. And just like the others, I was told I had to pay for extra services I didn’t ask for. I couldn’t cancel — they had already taken my deposit and said they’d just deduct the charges from that. I was stuck.While I waited for my car to be brought over, I saw something unbelievable. The first customer came back, clearly upset. He said the car was so badly damaged he didn’t feel safe driving it — and he didn’t want to risk losing his deposit. He asked to cancel the rental, and they refused until he called the police.Yes — he had to involve the police just to try to cancel a dangerous rental. In the end, he gave up the rental and lost his money just to protect his deposit. That tells you everything you need to know.When my car arrived, it was in terrible condition too — full of visible damage and so poorly maintained I didn’t feel safe. I drove it to my hotel and left it parked the entire time. I only drove about 25 km in total, just to return it. Even then, they charged me €20 to "wash the car" because there were a few bird droppings — even though the car was already dirty when I received it.________________________________________This company operates with scams, unsafe vehicles, and dishonest policies.I cannot understand how companies like VIP Cars still list XL Rent a Car as a supplier. They are knowingly exposing customers to serious risks and unfair treatment.

We experienced some of the same things like all the other bad reviews her. The woman in Split airport was so so rude and didn`t want to hear anything.We had an argument whether the insurance we had through Axa was covering she said it didn`t and we should pay for yet another insurance through XL. We called Axa right away and they told is that we were covered in case if everything happened. The rude lady also talked in the phone with AXA and argued with them. When we were returning the car it was like other comments here, that they want to find some damages. We were charged 750€ for a tiny tiny scratch on the tire.We were not the only one having problems the day we picked up the car. A French couple also argued with the rude woman at the desk and never got their car.Stay away from this company!

Absolutely scam!!!! Arrived 10min later - wanted to charge me 50€ for that … then had to give a Kreditcard for deposit 1050€, the terminal card reader wouldn’t read any card of mine by slide in the card, and now listen carefully ! By taping the card (contactless) it would work ! But here it comes - they charged me 140€ for contactless paying … and the car cost me for a week 76€ … This is absolutely insane. They told me that is the company policy ! Such a bad company !!!! Very very bad !!!

Go with a trusted supplier.I rented a car through EasyCar because I thought I would be covered and get help if anything went wrong but when the car hire company charged me about 200 Euro to fill two tanks, 6 months later, I am still battling to get my money back with EasyCar.I rented a car for 2 weeks in Croatia from a scam company through EasyCar called XL Rent a Car. I rented an estate car as we were travelling around the country and had plans to travel to different countries.We arrived at 2-3 in the morning and we picked up a Ford Focus Estate. It was dark, we were tired, picked up the car and drove to a hotel. In the morning, I realised it had over 200,000km on the clock, but thought that this is how things must be in Croatia so we continued our holiday.About 2-3 hours into our first day, the clutch and air conditioning packed in and I only just got it off the road and into a service station in a safe parking space. I called the company and was told someone would call me back. When the boss called me, she accused me of driving the car incorrectly and that is why the clutch broke... I said... Its got over 200,000 km on the clock... Maybe its old and broken. After arguing with this nasty woman, she said that she would send someone and they would be there in a few hours. 6-7 hours later a guy turned up with a newer car, he tinkered with the broken car and somehow got it working again, making me think it was a known issue. As this car broke down, I had no ability to put back in it the 1/4 of a tank we used.The 2nd car came with no paperwork. I took pictures of the fuel gage and videos of the car and got on with our holiday. At the end of the holiday, I filled the car back up and added an extra 1/4 tank to repay the fuel from the first car and then after I got home, I was hit with two cars being refilled at a cost of around 100 EURO each.I lost a day of my holiday and have been fighting this for months, Easy car keep asking for proof I filled up the first car... its like they are completely ignoring what actually happened!DO NOT USE EASY CAR and NEVER USE XL RENT A CAR! SCAM!

Rented car at the Split airport for 23 days in September 2024. Car was awful, more than 5 years old with more than 100 000 km on the clock. It had 46 damages on the paper, some them quite a big with rust. Customer Services very unhelpful, promised to change a car but never happened. Be aware out of hours high charges. Avoid them if you can.

My husband and I travelled to Split and hired a car for the week through this company. We had a dreadful experience from start to finish. We got told upon collection of the car that they would take a €1,200 deposit and hold it until the car had been returned. I was extremely uncomfortable with this and have never experienced it when hiring a car. They actually took this money from our bank so do be aware of that. Thankfully, I had read the other terrible reviews about them finding faults with cars and withholding deposits, so we thoroughly videoed the entire car in the airport car park (inside and outside including the roof and alloys). There were three scratches marked on the sheet they gave us and probably a minimum of 20 on the car; it was a wreck. The engine also sounded dreadful so we videoed that as well.Upon returning the car they insisted on making us go back to the car to look over it. Funny how they don’t do this when you collect it isn’t it?! When I say she went through it with a fine tooth comb, I really mean it. The convenient thing is, she had photos of all of the scratches. So when my husband queried why only three were documented, she claimed they’d been too busy during the summer to update their system. This was the start of October, we were the only booking the day we turned up and the girl at the desk was just playing on her phone when we arrived, so that doesn’t really add up. She honed in on one particular mark that we thankfully had documented, or they’d have absolutely had us for it. My husband made her agree verbally that everything was fine and that we would be getting our deposit back. We have since had this back (and had we not, had enough evidence to go through our bank) but I know we wouldn’t have if we hadn’t been so careful. What really frustrates me is they clearly rip people off and don’t even get the cars fixed based on the horrible state ours was in. They are a rude, unprofessional setup so if you use them, please ensure you use a credit card, document the whole vehicle before you drive away and take out the full insurance through the company and not a third party. Yes they were extremely cheap and I realise you do get what you pay for, but their practices are totally unethical.

Total SCAM!Pick up should alarm us. Had to pay additional fees for not using credit card of €70 as handling fee. Could not use my booking creditcard for unclear reasons. Because return time was mid-day the pickup office told us we do not need to call 30 mins in advance.When returning the car they where very upset that we did not call. Trying to tell her that our instructions where different resulted in a short 'you are not keeping yourself to the rental agreement.'. Next they got very angry and hostile. The women spend minutes whiping the car with some cloth. Obvious looking for something, dropping the cloth, picking up dirt. We got nervous and asked what is going on. Then they got hostile and angry. As we tried to calm one lady (not inspecting the car) the other woman suddenly found 2 scratches. I'm certain she had created them herself. They were so obvious, we would have seen it ourselfs ealier. Suprise, surprise, the cost to fix it was €900, about equal to the deposit. Avoid this company at all costs. Better to go for better known brands. Oh, one more thing. They offer additional ensurance. The cost of that ensurance would have saved me €200. Absurt prices for rental of 4 days. Please, never ever do business with this company.

EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION. When we dropped the car off, 'Chris' spent half an hour, at times on her knees with a cloth inspecting every mm of the bodywork, the cloth was continually dropped in the grit of the car park then picked up to continue wiping. it was very evident they were wanting any excuse possible to find damage to charge for. I began taking detailed photos at this point, asking her name and head office details. XL will try to scam you. Best avoid at all costs and go for a more multi national company that has a head office to complain to. The car was covered in scrapes and scuffs before we drove off so every time they have charged previously, it certainly hasn't been repaired.
