My Brutally Honest VSCO Review (2025)

I’ve used the VSCO app since 2015, back when you could simply buy a filter pack and keep it forever. I loved the film-look presets so much that I bought every single pack they offered.Everything changed late in 2016 when VSCO introduced its invite-only VSCO X subscription at about twenty bucks a year. By 2017 the paywall rolled out to everyone—and that’s when half of the presets I’d already paid for suddenly went gray. The company expected me to pay again to use filters I owned. Talk about a bait-and-switch.Fast-forward to 2025 and the pricing’s only climbed. The VSCO Plus price is now $29.99 per year (or $7.99 if you pay month-to-month), while VSCO Pro runs a hefty $59.99 annually ($12.99 monthly). Yet the missing presets I bought a decade ago are still locked behind that shiny new tier.Customer support? Crickets. I’ve emailed, tweeted, and left App Store comments—zero replies. It feels like they took money for a lifetime license, yanked the keys, and now charge rent to get back in.So if you’re googling “VSCO review 2025,” “VSCO subscription scam,” or “Why did my VSCO presets disappear?”—here’s your answer:Avoid VSCO unless you’re okay paying twice for the same product and getting ghosted by support. Plenty of other photo-editing apps let you keep what you buy. Don’t let this subscription trap nab your wallet the way it did mine.

Poor support

I submitted two requests 24th of February 2025. Without any support I received an automatic email 30 days later they would close my request since they hadn't heard anything further. I replied to the automatic email and in return I finally got an indifferent reply.''Thanks for reaching out! I am sorry for the confusion you're experiencing.'', and the rest was a standardized text. There was no reassurance on looking into the actual issue. Request was quickly marked as resolved. In my first request I gave them a rather detailed description, whereas they had the opportunity both to help, and fix the actual issue. I spent hours not being able to delete my account according to instructions, and so it seems I am not the only one that has been struggling... They have work to do regarding functionalities.VSCO should really have a look into bettering their support and app/website.

Pro Member for 8 years!

I mean I have been asking you guys to let us archive pictures like you can do on instagram for over 7 years this year! Instead of having to delete them whenever you are updating your feed. Snapchat, TikTok and instagram all take in consideration their members request. So why is it so difficult for you? I will delete my one star review on App Store and play store as soon as you fix this issue, I have seen many complaints about this and is one of the most googled topics within Vsco!

Stole my money and professional photography

I am a birth worker who offers complimentary birth photography to my clients. I decided to use VSCO to edit photos for a client and signed up for their 7-day trial to use Pro. After the trial, I paid for a one-year subscription.The VERY NEXT DAY, I tried logging in but kept getting a message that my password was wrong (which is impossible because I saved it to Chrome), but I went ahead and tried resetting the password. After several attempts, I never receive a link to reset my password. Hours go by and still no link to reset my password. I checked and searched my entire business email inbox.The only thing I can think of is my profile was flagged by a bot as having illicit photos, even though my photography is modest and doesn't show any compromising photos of my client or her newborn.I'm not a moron either and obviously made sure not to post any photos to the community tab, so I have no idea why VSCO would kick me out after taking my money and never explaining why.I opened a support ticket (it hasn't been 24 hours yet, so haven't heard back), but I'm thinking of just going to my bank and disputing the charge and just getting rid of VSCO and actively advocating against VSCO to everyone I know. It's absolutely insane that birth photography would be flagged.

SCAM. Been paying for the special features for years but can’t use them still. Been trying to get in contact with them but haven’t gotten any answers. DONT PAY FOR ANYTHING ON THIS APP!!!

It is absolutely impossible to buy a subscription to the desktop version of VSCO from Germany.

Customer service is poor. It is absolutely abnormal that when I want to buy the desktop version of the App on the VSCO website, the transaction goes through financial service "Stripe", which does not accept any of my cards (Germany). This has never happened to me before, even though I sometimes buy other American Apps via card, e.g. Smartist App recently. It is absolutely impossible to buy a subscription of the desktop version of VSCO from Germany. I don't know how you can run a business so senselessly and reject potential customers by using an inflexible, limited financial service.

Genuinely so disappointed with the customer service.

Genuinely so disappointed with the customer service of this app. I've used VSCO since 2015, its a fantastic editing app and I've even paid for it! When trying to upgrade to the next payment tier they totally brushed me off and told me they can't help with the problems I was having. If they can't be bothered to help a long standing customer who is trying to give them money I dread to think what other customers are getting in reply. It seems after all these years I wont be renewing next time.

Scam of a company

Scam company. They falsely claim to offer a 7 day trial period but then charge you right away. When I got in touch with them, I got a one sentence response "Not our problem" Like they didn't even care to investigate if maybe there is an issue on Apple's side - surely they would be upset defrauding customers? Nope. When I googled VSCO trial period, I saw people with the same complaint going back YEARS. Such a scam forcing people into year long subscriptions knowing that once peopel saw the quality of the app, they wouldn't want the subscription.

Such a scam now

After removing filerpackages that we've already payed for. I was offered 2 months free trial. They charged me right away, but gave me no access to the app. I did not agree to any payment, and they ignore every request to look at this issue.Used to love this app, but what a scam.

VSCO has No Verification Policy and ZERO Support

Someone used my email to open an account and VSCO began sending unsolicited emails without first seeking confirmation that the account was legitimate. I informed them that I had not opened nor confirmed the account and so it was not valid and should be closed. They refused, and upon further appeals for assistance they repeatedly sent instructions on how to close it myself which would have required me to have the account password which I did not have since I did not set it up! Company is ripe to become a vehicle of harassment given their irresponsible policy and complete absence of support. Avoid.

A few years ago a purchased a package…

A few years ago a purchased a package of filters, when the app switched to membership per month payment. It erased all my filters I had purchased and said I need to get the membership to get them back. Waste of money. Contacted VSCO with no response.

i would have given it 5 stars a few…

i would have given it 5 stars a few months ago but it started seriously glitching in july and the only thing i got from their support team was that they don't know what the issue is or how to resolve it and that only after trying to contact them for weeks. they need to get serious about customer support. maybe you can't help but you don't freakin' ignore the people that pay you money for the service you offer.

This app is AMAZING. It was so hard to find a photo editing app that was easy to use. VSCO has so many features that you can use to edit your photos and even share with your friends!

I paid Premium version and the features are not available!

I paid for the Premium version for a year. In my account is says that I'm subscribed until August 2020, however when I try to edit an image it ALWAYS ask me to upgrade my subscription and when I do it, it tells me that will be effective after my current subscription expires. The end of the story is that I CAN'T USE THE PREMIUM FEATURES even though I'm Premium.I tried to contact the support several times and they always redirect me to one article that doesn't help AT ALL!

Horrendous customer service

I got notified that someone tried to log in to my account on VSCO. Upon checking I saw that my account seemed to have been wiped. Because I hadn't used VSCO in years I contacted customer support to ask them to check for other accounts and then delete them. The representative "Theodore" (yes, I'm calling them out) made me go back and forth for 4 weeks, asking me the same questions over and over again, and generally not cooperating, only to tell me I should just go and delete the account myself. So now I still don't know who could be using my name or account or other details and have no way of finding out.

Careful: free trial turns into year membership in just 6 days

I installed the VSCO app and specifically selected "free version" but I unknowingly got some sort of trial that was to automatically renew. The "free version" said it would expire on February 4, but on February 3, VSCO auto-charged my Google account for a full year's membership. I didn't realize I would be charged until suddenly the charge appeared, and when I contacted VSCO, all its customer service emails bounced back with "this is an unmonitored mailbox." Its auto-help-center flatly stated "sorry we charged you (a day before your trial expired) but we give no refunds." I have fortunately been offered a refund from Google, so I'm glad I went through Google rather than VSCO directly.Pretty sleazy way to trick someone into signing up for a full year membership VSCO. I have installed many other free-trial apps which merely expired at the end of the trial without surreptitiously charging me. BE CAREFUL OF VSCO.
