Refund request due to software issue problem -no reply

I have been using your software to prepare my return, which includes the complex Form 3115 (Application for Change in Accounting Method). After printing a copy to verify the final figures, I discovered that the software was unfortunately unable to correctly calculate or map the specific data required for this accounting change. Upon reaching out to a tax expert for help, she was unable to fix the software issue. Although I was advised that someone would get back to me with further help, I have yet to hear back from anyone and it's been over 4days.Because of this technical discrepancy, I was unable to use the product to file an accurate return. When I reached out via email to request a refund under TaxAct’s 100% Satisfaction and Accuracy 30 Day Money Back Guarantees I received a generic email which said to contact them back if I don't receive a resolution in 2-3days. Now it been 5 days since I sent the refund request but I have yet to hear back. When I reached out to get an update via phone call, I am unable to speak to anyone...just a long wait time but no live person seems to be available to help in resolving this matter. Nether less to say, I am most unhappy about the product and the customer service. My Account Details:

Bad! Beware!

Worst experience I have ever had with a tax software. I was unable to download a Form 8949 to be submitted with my tax filing despite being on the phone with a support representative for an hour! Their system would not accept any download despite providing the suggested formats! I went ahead and e-filed, then had to do an amended return to attach the Form 8949 and mail it in! I WILL NEVER USE TAXACT SOFTWARE EVER AGAIN! BEWARE!

Their software produced an error in the…

Their software produced an error in the state filing, and when I requested reimbursement for the resulting costs—despite the fact that the issue was covered by insurance—they insisted the mistake was my responsibility. In reality, I had made minimal manual inputs, and the error was clearly on their side. Based on this experience, I would strongly advise others to avoid using their services, as the quality and accountability do not justify the expense.

Can't submit Data Privacy Request

Unable to submit a Data Privacy Request because clicking "Verify email" repeatedly returns a generic "Something went wrong. Please try again later."

I'm extremely disappointed with…

I’m extremely disappointed with TaxAct’s false advertising regarding their “refund advance.” They promote this feature as if it’s available to everyone, but when I applied, I was denied with no explanation at all. After that, I tried to contact support to understand why—and that’s where things got even worse.Every link for help sends you straight to a chat agent, and when I finally got through, I was told that TaxAct doesn’t even offer refund advances. So why advertise it in the first place? This feels misleading and dishonest. If a company is going to promote a service, they should actually provide it—or at the very least give clear information and real customer support. Instead, I was left confused, frustrated, and without the service they promised. They are charging me more then I usually pay which i was willing to pay for in hopes of that refund advance. Now there is no way to cancel or not have them file my return. They also havnt given me any updates on whether my return was accepted, nothing at all. Most companies send you emails with info not taxact. If i login it has me type in info and takes me to e-file all over again asking for payment its just terrible.I won’t be using TaxAct again.

I feel like these people are getting over on people

I feel like these people are fraudulent. They say there's no bank account on file for you which isn't true. You go into the app to see your return but instead it tries to sell you more products and take you back through the efiling process. Only to then say you already filed and take you back to the beginning to sell you products on an already filed return. I never should have switched from TurboTax. 8 years with no issues. I only switched due to pricing. Cheaper is sometimes not better that's for sure. Valuable lesson learned. Their customer service is worthless and you can barely even understand what they are saying. How do you hire people who speak English as a second language to help? Bad business practices all the way around!

This company is horrible and keeps trying to charge you more and more. (The first time I used them, the IRS contacted me and I had to pay approximately $2,000). I decided to give them a second try now and I was processing a simple free federal return and then because I had $600 HSA, it had to be A COST OF $30. I agreed to the $30, then after reviewing my federal, they have me as a STATUTORY EMPLOYEE, I AM NOT AND THEIR SYSTEM IS FORCING ME TO NOW PAY $75 AS A BUSINESS. I TRIED ABOUT 10X'S TO EDIT AND IT WILL NOT ALLOW ME AND THEN I TRIED TO DELETE AND IT WOULD NOT ALLOW ME. I THEN CLICKED ON LIVE HELP AND THEY AUTOMATICALLY ADDED $15 TO MY CHARGES AND I DID NOT EVEN GET LIVE HELP AND CLICKED OFF OF IT. I'M GOING TO TRY TO DELET MY INFORMATION AND IF THEY PREVENT ME, I WILL FILE AN OFFICIAL COMPLAINT.

A TERRIBLE COMPANY

I first completed a small 1120S for my part-time work-from-home business. There were no issues. When I finished, the screen came up to have me pay for the service. It offered me a discount if I prepaid for my federal and state individual 1040s. Who doesn't like a discount? So I paid TaxAct a total of $239.98 for both the 1120-S and the upcoming 1040s. It seemed like a lot of money for a simple tax return but, heck, I reasoned that my personal 1040 would be free. I finished my personal 1040 this morning using TaxAct, then I get to the payment screen, where it ASKS FOR ANOTHER PAYMENT of $180!?!? This was supposed to be free. I spent 30 minutes on the phone discussing the issue with a CSR who had no authority to do anything but give me a $60 credit. She wouldn't listen that a $60 credit is not equal to the $180 the site wants to charge me.I asked to speak with her supervisor, then was placed in hold and waited... and waited. She eventually had to take my number because the supervisor had too many calls in the queue. (Probably other people complaining about being ripped off?)So, folks, there is are a lot of tax prep software out there. STAY AWAY FROM TAXACT.I'll now need to go to TurboTax, and re-enter my 1040 information--ALTHOUGH I PREPAID FOR THE SERVICE only 2 days ago.

Watch for hidden fees!

They hide fees until the end before you file. What was supposed to cost about 30 bucks, cost me close to $100. That is deceptive.

$10,000 incorrect military deduction

2025 Virginia tax law allows $40k subtraction of military benefits. TaxAct only allows 30K. It won't file your taxes if you input 40K.Military filers in the state of Virginia are overstating their income by 10k, and overpaying their taxes, simply by using TaxAct.

I used Tax Act for the first time today…

I used Tax Act for the first time today in hopes of accessing their tax advance. It has led to a very time consuming experience,so I'm leaving this review to maybe help the next person. It was very easy to file my taxes on their website. I was never given the option for tax advance, even tho I met all criteria. I called customer service, waited about 45 min an spoke w a lady that told me I had to call Republic Bank to set up a account an then I'd see the option. Absolutely not true! So I called back to Tax Act. The next lady said the tax advance was just offered today for the first time."It's a hit an miss so maybe call back at the end of the week."If that helps anyone, there ya go!

Should Have Read The Review Here First Before Filing.

Have Been Using TaxAct for several years. Used TaxAct 2025 paid services instead of the IRS Free Service, which I qualify for. I wanted to be loyal to TaxAct. Thought the IRS was going to accept early(January 09th) like last year but because I used "PAID" TaxAct IRS won't "ACCEPT" until January 26th. This is punishment for being loyal to TaxAct. Ignore the "Discount Ads" they send in November & December because they change the rules and don't tell you. I will not use TaxAct next year.

Refuses to give a receipt for the service I purchased. This is absurd.

I used TaxAct to file some 2024 1065s. I downloaded the receipt they gave me. Recently I was doing my taxes for the year and looked at the receipt. It shows that I paid "$0.00" but the credit card statement shows I paid $149.99I went to TaxAct website and followed their link to contact support . I simply asked for a receipt for my purchase.6 days and TEN emails later, and this company literally refuses to give me a receipt.I am pretty sure this is illegal.

They hide fees until you get to the end to file. Thought it was just going to be $30 went to file and now it's $100. I don't think so.

No more Taxact for me.They have become useless

I was a satisfied customer for 12 years but I needed a copy of my 2024 tax return because I lost the one I printed earlier in December 2025, their software could not do. So I waited till January 2 to try again hoping the software was fixed but it was even worse. Nothing worked. Their use of AI and bot help was useless and finally when I found no live support I quit.
