think twice- sell locally
First of all let me say I rarely take the time to write negative reviews. Mostly out of laziness… I just suck it up. But I feel the need to warn other people considering sellalaptop.com. I actually used Trustpilot to sort out if this was the place to send my laptop. Wow I feel burned. Wondering if the reviewers are real. Yes the process was easy but you’ll notice none of the positive reviews say “Hey I received exactly what I was quoted.” So when I got a $245 quote for my 4 year old laptop I thought hey not great resale but sounds about right for a perfectly good well cared for laptop in perfectly good working order. I bought the right box and bubble wrap, packaged it well and off it went. What I received for my efforts was an offer of $97 and the reason was “Major cosmetic damage “. This was patently untrue. When I emailed the company about my objections they responded with a statement “Please understand it is not our intentions to be unfair when evaluating laptops. As a company we break down each laptop for parts and when we find parts that are damaged, even if the damages are minor, we cannot sell these parts. If that statement was published when I got the quote I think I would have sniffed out the problem. If they are parting out your machine they need to give you the parts price for anything of value in the computer… meaning very little. This is a salvage operation. While they do not make any promises it’s a little disingenuous to say they will evaluate the computer for value is not really the case. They evaluate the parts. They will rip it up to find a few pieces to melt down or a chip to resell. That’s a fine business model but just say it. I think more people would rather donate or sell locally if they know the whole deal. Choose for yourself. Just don’t think the quote is anything near what you will receive.
