Ecover became cruel for animal and human

Since Ecover is being sold to SC Johnson, it's a nightmare!Johnson does animal testing, is NOT cruelty free as the original Ecover used to be.The workers rights and environmental reporting are also very bad.

HARMFUL PRODUCT

I wanted to give 0 or minus rating if possible. Ecover Dishwashing Liquid - Disappointing for Sensitive SkinDespite being marketed as eco-friendly, Ecover's dishwashing liquid has caused severe skin irritation and cuts for my husband. We've used other brands without issues, but Ecover falls short. Customer service was dismissive and unhelpful. Would not recommend for sensitive skin.Customer service just asked us to wash hand carefully and properly rinse it.

I meant to buy the Ecover non bio washing capsules but mistakenly bought the bio version. They leave a really nasty dank smell on clothes.

Horrible smell. I used the non bio laundry capsules…

I used the non bio laundry capsules thinking it would be neutral. Whatever have they done to make the washing smell of cheap and nasty after shave? Never again. It’s repulsive.

Toilet Cleaner Bottle: Difficult to Refill

I have used the Ecover Toilet Cleaner Pine & Mint as I wanted a gentle but effective cleaner for my toilet. In terms of the positives, the product itself is effective at removing stains, leaves the bowl clean, and has a nice fragrance that doesn't smell overly chemical. However, my biggest concern with the Ecover toilet cleaner is, given their brand is based on being eco-friendly and refillable, the refilling process was extremely difficult. The 1L toilet cleaner bottle is at an 45 degree angle to reach the toilet rim with a plastic cap that you remove to refill the product. However, it is difficult to remove this plastic nozzle and you must use gloves and wash the nozzle extremely well as it has been in direct contact with the toilet and filth. Next, given the 45 degree angle of the bottle, it is really difficult to position the bottle to refill it using the 5L container. The 5L bottle has a thin handle and is difficult to hold with one hand as you then cannot pour the refill liquid directly into the toilet cleaner container as it is at a 45 degree angle so you need to either spill a lot of the product or get someone to help hold both. Further, a lot of product from the refill was lost in the refilling process. I suggest Ecover look into the bottle design and/or provide a funnel to help as I found the process really difficult and I use a lot of refillable / zero waste products.

Ruined rubber seals and gunk everywhere

I've used Ecover concentrated detergent Bio Laundry, Honeysuckle & Jasmine for two years but it has destroyed my washing machine. Never before had black stains on rubber seals, or grey gunk oozing out of every seal. Disgusting. Had I known this is what this so-called 'eco' product would do, I'd never have bought it. Back to Persil I shall go. I don't have time to deal with this additional domestic issue right now. Ecover need to fix this problem.

Clothes smell like disinfectant, dreadful

I have persevered with ecover laundry liquid but I just can't use it anymore. The smell from the clothes is like disinfectant. I smell like the kennels I used to work in. They need to do something about the awful smelling detergent. I use their other products and have no problem.

Rubbish!

Thought to try non-bio lavender & sandalwood, for eco reasons. It DOES NOT CLEAN. Items come out of the machine, with any speck of dirt they went in with. Even on a 60 degree wash! No matter how many extra rinses after the wash, everything feels SLIMEY! It's discusting! Don't waste your money on this rubbish.

Ecover non bio laundry detergent with…

Ecover non bio laundry detergent with lavender and sandalwood smells lovely in the bottle. My clothes didn’t smell very nice though after using it. Not only that but the second I got into bed, my eyes and skin became unbelievably itchy. Going back to Fairy non bio and never going back.

Clothes smell cheesy and nasty after using

Used a very expensive bottle of Ecover laundry liquid and wish I hadn’t as the clothes absolutely stink once dried. It’s a damp cheesy smell as if they have not been dried properly, but they were dried outside in good weather. Makes the whole house smell bad. Just as bad is the nasty smell from them no longer being an eco brand and owned by a company who do animal testing. Having to re-wash everything in cruelty free alternatives.

Really Bad Laundry Smells…….

Not sure about Ecover’s customer service or other products as I have never dealt with them. BUT, I have been using Ecover liquid in the washing machine for 15+ years with no issues, until last year……We started getting a mouldy cheese smell on our laundry, it was so bad after a while that it was embarrassing wearing certain items in public, we figured the washing machine had finally come to its end (Miele 20 years old) so we bought a new one and laundry was okay’ish for two or three weeks then the smell came back stronger than ever…….We changed wash liquid to a conventional alternative and the results were evident immediately, now the smell is completely omitted from our laundry …….I would in no way recommend Ecover laundry liquid……Something has changed…..

Ecover washing up liquid causing splits…

Ecover washing up liquid causing splits in finger tips and very sore dry skin. It is definitely this product b6 elimination. Apparently Ecover was bought out by Johnson’s and they have obviously changed the formula. It is shockingly bad for skin. I will never use this irritant again.

Baffled how this is still sold

I tried ecover a couple of years ago and it made our laundry smell terrible, we put it down to the washing machine being older. As we recently got a new machine, I thought I would give it a go again. Low and behold, the smell is there yet again. I’m baffled that this product is sold when something clearly is wrong with the basic function of it. The smell is awful, almost cheesy. So disappointed as I have bought 2 large bottles and hate how wasteful this is!

Absolutely useless

Absolutely useless, it did not used to be bad but now clothes come out smellier than they were. Far better and cheaper alternatives out there.

ECover Non Bio… Extremely Bad Skin Irritation

I have been using ECover Non Bio Laundry detergent for many years with success. However I experienced a severe rash over my face and body on using the latest bottle. My skin become extremely irritated, itchy and bumpy all over. My clothes and bedsheets also feel damaged and very rough.I was only able to pinpoint it to this as I had a guest staying over who also broke out in a rash and the bedsheets and duvets covers were washed with the new detergent just before they arrived. I'm really upset as it has damaged my skin quite badly. I'm putting this review here as others may have experienced a similar reaction. I will be looking for alternatives.

Absolutely shocking stuff

Absolutely shocking stuff. Just found out after over a year what was causing my severe Pompholyx on my hands and it's this stuff! I will be washing all my laundry again using my other original detergent. On the pulse side, I'm relieved I've found out what was causing my skin reaction.

Ecover has gone from good laundry…

Ecover has gone from good laundry liquid to now the most awful smell I cannot get out of my laundry. Preferred the originals years ago. Double rinsed with lemon juice just to get the luring stink out but it still lingers..very odd smell. Avoid Ecover. Tried a supermarket own brand kne, much better, not harsh and cruelty free. And free from this weird odour.
