Slow but practical

From my experience, the courses are too slow, but I have to say that I like how much practice you get. It can definitelh improve in the variety of courses but it is a fun and immersive experience overall.

Refunded a sub that accidentally renewed for my child

A yearly subscription was renewed without our knowledge because the reminder emails were landing in my child's email account and he hadn't seen them. I contacted asking for a refund - initially through chatbot, but then with a request. I needed to re-provide details as the chat information didn't carry across, but I received an email within 12 hours asking for them, and after I provided them, the yearly subscription fee was refunded to us. I wasn't too hopeful initially but there was no fuss at all as soon as I contacted them.

WARNING: Codecademy is a dark-pattern subscription company

A dark-pattern subscription companyThis means that they WILL bill your card (that they keep onfile without your consent) WITHOUT any type of prior notification. They WILL NOT refund this charge even if you catch it the same day. This behavior is dark pattern. Refuse the charge with your financial institution and file a complaint. Edit to respond to their PR attempt: A customer service ticket WAS filed with them back in November. There was no answer, as is typical in dark pattern subscription 'providers'.

Codecademy has given me a really good…

Codecademy has given me a really good base for coding. I did the free courses and then had pro for a few years. I like the way it goes through exercises and tests you. Also the customer service was excellent and was actual people (unless they have very convincing bots!). I do think they are a very ethical and helpful company that has a good mission Thank you Amecka for your help when I had an issue. I had really good customer services when a lot of other places send you round in circles. 5 stars from me ☺️

False Advertisement

I would say it's a scam, because of false advertisement. It says "Learn to code for free" but it's not really free. You pretty much have to pay.

Watch out for their auto renewals and promo emails that flag their reminders to go into spam.

Started doing a course. Unfortunately, I had to put it aside due to health reason and was not able to pick it back up just yet. Little did I know you can't turn off auto renew for their services. You can either let them charge what they want every billing cycle (they doubled my price to $400 2 weeks before Christmas) or you can cancel their services. So you don't have the option to use their site, when your membership ends, wait until you can afford to use their service again. The option is either let them take what they want or cancel your program. If you are going to use their service make absolutely sure they're emails aren't going to your junk mail and deleted. That's what happened to me. They sent FIFTY promo emails since I signed up so naturally their billing reminders are long since flagged as spam my email servers before you ever get to see them.

buggy but ok

has a good amount of courses, for what you pay for, how ever the website may be buggy at times and have had to contact support when the system bugged out mid course or failed to generate the certificate.some well known courses are included but not the exam, they will advise you to go do the exam with Microsoft, google, amazon, ISC2support team have been fast and helpful, courses are easy to understand and follow, ai tool helps when it dosen't bug out and i am stuck in my course to break down where i went wrong.

When your code doesn't work the AI tool does not offer working solutions.

Codecademy is fine for the free courses. However if it's not possible to complete the paid ones, you may have wasted your money as the debugging methods don't work. The 'AI' tool is superficial and doesn't resolve problems. It isn't present for some of the lessons anyway. You are directed to community support and, in my experience so far, the community doesn't support. So I've wasted hours and my sub.

I bought a subscription about a year…

I bought a subscription about a year ago. When I bought it, they didn't inform me that it would be automatically charged. They didn't even remind me about it afterwards, and today my subscription automatically renewed. No refund. Thanks Codecademy! Never again!

Unprompted billing, email on receipt cannot be reached

So I subscribed to Codecademy student pricing subscription last year. An hour ago it charged my credit card the full price and I could only talk to AI chat support. There's an email in Codecademy receipt that just billed me, so I emailed that email address but when I press send...that email address is unreachable, Here are some snippets:Your message to [the email] couldn't be delivered. contact wasn't found at codecademy.com.More Info for Email Admins Status code: 550 5.4.1This error occurred because a message was sent to an email address hosted by Office 365, but the address doesn't exist in the receiving organization's Office 365 directory. Directory Based Edge Blocking (DBEB) is enabled for codecademy.com, and DBEB rejects messages addressed to recipients who don't exist in the receiving organization's Office 365 directory. It's a shame that this happened, there's Codecademy advertisements everywhere for student discounts...

Not really feeling it...

According to Codecademy.com, I'm about 15% of the way through my python course. However I find the site very frustrating. They teach as though I have a photographic memory. I do practice sessions to try and master what I've learned but the practice sessions are either far too easy, or too hard. The most frustrating thing for me is the sort of lazy way in which the assignments are explained. They give minimal instructions. The upside is that I can use an interactive AI chatbot to get help. Unfortunately, that chatbot is not available during practice sessions.

Very bad writing/content.

The course structure is good but the content is some of the worst written that I have ever come across in learning to code. The structure and thinking of the lessons and scenarios is truly abysmal. I've found that a lot of my time has been just trying to understand the simple thing that they are very badly explaining. I wouldn't reccomend doing their courses.

Excellent Learning Platform for All Skill Levels

I’ve had a great experience using Codecademy. The lessons are clear, interactive, and well-structured, which makes it much easier to stay focused and actually retain what I learn. I especially appreciate the instant feedback when coding — it helps me learn through doing, not just reading or watching. The platform covers a wide range of topics, from beginner basics to more advanced concepts, and it’s constantly updated with current tools and languages. The projects and quizzes are also really helpful for applying what I’ve learned.Overall, Codecademy offers incredible value, especially for the price. Whether you’re starting from scratch or looking to upskill, I highly recommend it!

Shady renewal practices

Bought Pro over a year ago on their 50% offer, which was a great deal and I do believe the product is good.I used it for a few months and then fell out of the loop with the practice, in the past several months I have been getting repeated and incessant emails advertising "sign up to get 50% off pro" to the same email address I'd previously purchased the offer at - I incorrectly assumed this meant I had at some point cancelled my sub to avoid the recurring full price bill, and these emails were encouragement to sign up again at the sale price.Wrong. I got a recurring bill for the full price on my credit card, AND still am getting the advertising emails for 50, and now today 60% off. During this process I did not get a single reminder email regarding my subscription which is standard practice on annual billing with others I've used like MasterClass.I tried replying to their emails asking why I was getting the advertising emails while being charged full price in the background, and got nothing.Highly unethical company.
