The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
I bought my policies from Three because I was required to do so due to recent legal changes in California's insurance regulations. Overnight, my previous commercial auto policy was dropped for no reason of my own, as the company pulled out of California, forcing me to shop around. All the quotes were more than 5 times what I had been paying. Additionally, I received a double-whammy as one of my contracts forced me to buy a workman's comp policy (it's just me; I do not have any other employees). The Good:Three Insurance offered me the best possible rate I was able to find anywhere to cover all my business needs. I have not seen a better deal to this point. It is a Berkshire Hathaway company, which provides peace of mind that they have the financial backing. The Bad:The frustrations began almost immediately when I had to request COIs for a number of my contracts. I made requests online, marking Waiver of Subrogation and Additionally insured. It takes up to three days to get the certificate, and it is rarely correct. It has been my experience that it takes an average of three phone calls for them to send a correct COI if it requires any additional wording. It's also been my experience that some of the folks working on these are in terrible moods on the phone. There is no client portal on their website. It is incredibly frustrating. There is no means to log into your account, make payment arrangements, view your policy, or anything. EVERYTHING requires making a phone call and being placed on hold. The Ugly:Suppose you're a small business struggling with cash flow problems. In that case, Three Insurance offers no leniency, no flexibility, or alternative payment options, and will adjust deadlines to be before what is stated on their notices. They may also send notices to your clients who hold your Certificate of Insurance about the pending cancellation before they send you any notice. Now you have to pay double, and they require the full amount (not half or partial). They will make it a point to screw you over!
