Unethical Billing — Avoid Out of the Box Technology
I hired Out of the Box Technology for a one-time bookkeeping cleanup for a non-active company. The agreement was clear — no ongoing services, no recurring charges.Months later, I was billed again for “recurring services” that were never discussed, authorized, or delivered. Despite multiple written requests for clarification, I received no response or explanation.This is not an administrative error — it’s a billing practice that feels intentionally deceptive. I strongly advise others to avoid this company and document every communication if you choose to engage them.

We have been working with Out of the Box for about 15 months. We are new business owners and without the help of Marion, I don't know where we would be when it comes to our finances. She is always available, knowledgeable and reliable, as are anyone we have spoken with in this company. She and Out of the Box are exactly what we needed to help us understand and work through any hurdles we have encountered. We encourage to use this company for your needs. Blue Chip for sure and pricing is very fair!!

Extremely misleading and unreliable…
Extremely misleading and unreliable business. I purchased services that were delivered months late and then was charged twice as much as the quote for half the work. You will regret using this business.

Started services with them. The started doing our book keeping but wasn’t getting done in a timely manner and not correctly so we could run our business. After a few months we found another book keeping company who we hired and clean up the books that were incorrect from that last and keep up to date as well as communication. Out of the box no longer does or booking or provides any services but continues to charge us monthly for service not rendered. Watch out for the contract terms and na conditions

As a former OOTB employee, please be aware of doing business with them. The communication between the team that “sells” you the service and the communication within the organization itself is horrendous. When you are in the initial phases of onboarding with them, you think that the person you are speaking with will be doing your books. They make you feel that way, and you share all of the information with them and then you are passed off to another team member. Every one of my clients was shocked when I reached out for additional info because they were not informed. They also sell you monthly consulting/learning packages and they expect YOU to follow up on them. If you don’t use them during the month you lose them, can’t get your money get back and they will not reach out to you to schedule. From an employee side of things, I went out on short-term disability in August of 2024 due to a mishap during surgery where I almost died on the table. In November of 2024, I received an email stating that I needed to cover my insurance payments while out on disability. I had already taken a huge pay cut and couldn’t afford the additional monthly bill (or the over $500 they were wanting from the previous months) so I asked what my options were. I was told I could cancel my coverage and was assured that I still had a position waiting for me. Due to needing insurance while I was out as I was still dealing with medical issues, I asked what my options were and if I could come back in order to keep them. I tried emailing HR NUMEROUS times, crickets. Absolute radio silence. I reached out to my direct supervisor in teams - I was told to contact HR. Finally, here we are the day my disability ended, where I am supposed to return to work on Monday and I FINALLY received an answer back that says my employment has been terminated due to falsifying my timesheet. Falsifying my timesheet is a joke due to the fact that I was CONSTANTLY asked by my direct supervisor and other “Executive Directors” to work off the clock. However, I was also instructed that I could NOT put in any time that wasn’t business hours. They would constantly UNDER estimate jobs and expect us to work on the project without pay to stay within budget, OR the client got billed astronomical charges after already paying a high amount. So as the person doing the work, we had to decide if we wanted the client to suffer and get billed 10 times more than what they were actually paying us to do the work. So we had to make the decision to punish ourselves, or the client. I highly recommend finding another company to handle your bookkeeping needs. The communication and how deceitful they truly are is horrendous and they play to small to medium sized businesses and that is not what they need. They need to be able to trust they pay for a service, there won’t be additional charges and their books will be done correctly. As an employee, run as fast as you can. The fact that I tried for an entire month to get some sort of answer, have in writing that I still had a job and they waited until the last day of my disability to tell me that I am terminated is unprofessional and disgusting.

They will get the job done but they…
They will get the job done but they will charge well over what they quoted you to get it done. Originally quotes 2800 to clean up Quickbooks but it turned into well over that amount. This business does not have google reviews enabled and I think it’s to cut down on the honesty of their previous customers. They are nice but they will milk your pockets and overcharge you.

Not a good company
The bookkeeper that I was assigned went 2-3 weeks at a time without following up on emails I sent. I ended up doing most of the books myself as I frequently saw common expenses going to different accounts. For example I found gas receipts in truck maintenance, owner expense, travel, etc. It was like they just went down the line and put any expense to any account that came up. After I finally terminated them, I had to give a 30 day notice. I paid them directly and they paid quickbooks. I paid my last 30 days bookkeeping and quickbooks. I logged on to QB and found my subscription cancelled. I emailed to ask for refund for QB or them to pay since I had paid them and they told me they would not do anything. I showed them their own bookkeeping which I paid every month and was still owed 30 days of QB service and they still denied it. I finally disputed with my credit card company. This is an awful bookkeeping service.
