Wish I never would of started with this university! I've meet one good teacher out of everyone I've experienced the last year here. All the rest including the deans and advisors have been a nightmare.
I attended IU and had been told nightmare stories and warnings not to attend. I ignored the signs and over the winter I started getting uncomfortable I was seeing students names on the deans list that couldn’t even spell! On April 5th I decided to transfer. I stopped attending and wrote emails to my SSA asking to be dropped. They lost their case ( they were on probation) and let us know on April 12, it took me from April 5th to may 15th to get someone to officially drop me. I was already enrolled in Purdue by then. Two weeks before I started my new school their financial aid office called and said IU had taken all of my financial aid for the next year and has not put it back! I called multiple times again sent tons of emails they keep saying they did it, yet the money has not been returned to my education account. As of today I have to pay for a full year out of pocket in order to continue my education while IU seems to be keeping my money! No wonder there loosing their accreditation. I’m filing a report tomorrow against the school they took thousands of dollars for April 20- November knowing I was trying to leave and now they won’t put it back. I am so sad my experience with IU turned out this way. But as I said I was starting to notice no matter what everyone makes the deans list even if they didn’t actually earn their grades! Diploma mill100%
I am overly excited to start but my problem is they pushed my start date back for accreditation and my helper I was talking to won't return my calls or texts and I've emailed numerous times to see if I can get an update on when I am suppose to start. I have already put allot of work to get started and I am not ready to walk away! They were super sweet and helpful I just wish someone would get back to me.
I enrolled in this school and they said they were being investigated and they put a hold on my start date and had another friend enroll and everything was ok. So their either lieing or something is going on their nt being truthful about
Independence university wasted three weeks of my time for a free course then they basically ghosted me for three weeks and I didn’t get any of the equipment they said I was supposed to get! I didn’t get any call backs from any one for weeks due to their accreditation appeal and come to find out they rent enrolling new students for the summer. They didn’t update me with any emails because I’m not close to campus I live in California I was waiting for weeks to get a update I just got ghosted and had to text the chat line for answers then had to call another number to get more answers that weren’t on a article. If I could give them zero starts poor communication and lack of updating students.
The teachers are very instructive and responsible, the classroom setting is friendly.
I wonder if any other person who let the IU caller(s) know they were already enrolled in a school and got hung up on as well. Very rude of them, I was highly upset.
I found a wonderful course list and pedagogy of this university.
I loved attending this institution. The staff was very helpful in pushing me to succeed in my medical assisting program, I really loved that they had student service advisors call and check up on you. I also like that they have a career service advisor call and schedule job leads with you throughout the program, but even more frequent when you get close to graduating or graduate already. The only drawback would be I wish I would have been able to do my externship in my field of choice, but COVID-19 put a huge damper on facilities that would take on students. The professors were great, all of them had multiple years in their field of choice and was very knowledgeable about the needs and wants of the healthcare field. I will forever be grateful for my exposure to all of the information provided through these classes; and I owe my certification as a medical assistant to this great school.
A very rewarding and eye opening experience.
Independence University gave me a second chance in pursuit of my ultimatel career. As a mom who has not worked in 5 years, I was hesitant to start again. With the support and encouragement from the Advising staff to the well experienced and encouraging professors, I received a quality education, without pressure or worry. Thank you IU. Please continue to make a difference in the lives of many!
Great school all around!!
The best School ever....
I entered the Medical Assisting program andmaintained a grade of no less than a 103%. This is because there is daily check points. Only 4 are required, but if you do them everyday you get extra credit. This makes the possible points for every class 106%. In my opinion, the checkpoints make it impossible to fail the classes as the short 2 question quizzes can raise your grade up a letter (assuming you do them everyday and get them right). The university sends out a HP laptop and windows 10 tablet to help with your studies. However, I found the equipment slow and outdated. I purchased an iPad Pro and MacBook Pro and found these two to make completing/submitting work a lot easier and enjoyable. The classes are set up into modules. With each being 4 weeks long and there is only one at a time. The modules are further divided into weeks and each week will have the same set of work. For example, every week will have 2 discussion posts (sometimes only 1), assignment (usually a paper or PowerPoint), an assessment (usually a quiz), and a 4 question live lecture quiz (the answers will be given to you in the lecture). This is every week but week four. Week four is the same except the 3 question career integration quiz which is essay style used to reflect on what you have learned. My entire time at IU I had never missed points in discussions, checkpoints, or career integration. Discussion posts are due by 11:59 on Wednesday and replies are due Sunday 11:59. You are required 2 but you can do more. All other assignments/ assessments are due on Sunday at 11:59. Lectures will typically happen Monday - Wednesday at anytime of day and sometimes night. There is only one per week and it is recorded so you don’t have to attend live. I have had instructors do their live at 8am Monday morning and others do 9pm Wednesday night. It all depends on their schedule. It is important to note that all times are in mountain time so if the lecture is at 9 am that means 10am central time. There is a ton of support at this school. You get a student service advisor, career service advisor, faulty program advisor, and have school resources like the writing center and library. The advisors will contact you by email and phone. I met with my SSA once a month but I could meet with her as much as I needed to. My CSA would contact me every 3-6 months, and my FPA would check on me regularly via email. With the medical assisting program you have the opportunity to fly to Utah for the weekend and do a residency where you learn all the hard skills needed like drawing blood and taking vitals. This was an amazing experience and the university pays for everything. The hotel room was nice and the food was delicious. They catered every meal and had plenty of snacks and bottled water. I arrived on Thursday and flew back on Sunday. Make sure to prepare yourself because you will be on your feet from 7am to 9pm at night. They pack everything into those short 2 full days. Even on the night that everyone flys in/morning we fly out there is stuff to do. Also make sure to have room in your luggage because they give you a backpack filled with medical supplies like a stethoscope and blood pressure cuff. If you’re like me and find medical assisting too easy and want to do something more than just draw blood and patient intake it is important to keep in mind that NO school will take your credits from IU. Being internationally accredited does not mean every program/school will accept IU credits. I am attending nursing school at a big university and they laughed at my IU credits. I had to retake all my prerequisites that I had already taken with IU. For example I toke PSY255 and MAT110 with IU and had to retake those same classes with the new university. I went into this school thinking that if I wanted to continue my education my at least some of credits would transfer but they do not. So keep that in mind if it matters to you.
From start to finish there was someone from the school making sure you were doing ok and if you needed anything. They were very attentive to my concerns trying to keep motivated to complete my degree and live a daily life. All of my instructors were amazing as well. Overall I had an amazing experience with Independence University.
I loved everything about this school and I am so proud to have earned my degree through this school. They really want you to succeed and are there for you every step of the way!
Independence university's online degree program has been the best learning experience I've had. The professor's/ instructor's are truly dedicated to seeing their students succeed and the he material was easy enough to follow. I am proud to be a graduate of independence university.
I loved every minute
I absolutely enjoyed my time and appreciate all my professors and advisors who have helped me along my education journey at Independence University! They are all always wiling to help out with any problems you may run across. This was a fast pace program so there was obviously a lot of work to do, but as long as you are dedicated and really want that degree, as long as you put the work fourth you can achieve your goal of your degree and so much more! I may return in the near future for my masters degree!
