Multiple Issues on 1 Order with No Urgency to Make Better
We experienced multiple issues with a single lighting order from Shades of Light that point to serious quality control problems.Over the course of this order:We were sent incorrect parts twice, each time with instructions for a different fixtureCanopies for what were supposed to be identical fixtures arrived in drastically different sizesAfter installation, it became clear that the fixtures themselves were not consistent — the crowns were different sizes, causing the lights to hang visibly uneven next to each otherEach issue required additional coordination and repeat electrician visits on an active project.While mistakes happen, the larger concern was how the situation was handled. After several documented failures, we requested a supervisor call and experienced days of delay with no follow-through, despite being told someone would reach out. The lack of urgency and management involvement was disappointing.As a professional contractor, we recommended Shades of Light in good faith, and these issues reflected poorly on us with our client. This combination of quality control failures and slow escalation response does not build confidence or support repeat business.

Lack of transparency and shady return policy
I have previously ordered from Shades of Light several times and had a great experience - good quality product and fast shipping. My most recent experience has been left me not wanting to order again. I choose this company because of their high end designs but when I ordered a ceiling fan I was surprised to find it delivered in a box by another brand. This brand wasn’t mentioned in the shades of light name so I search it and come to find out it’s a standard ceiling fan that I could have purchased at Home Depot or Lowe’s for 100$ less! Plus avoided the 30$ shipping! I emailed customer service and they said they have an exclusive only section but not everything is exclusive. No offer to price match and they told me I would have to pay return shipping. The box was damaged so fortunately I was able to send it back after talking with a more helpful rep but this lack of transparency is unsettling. Additionally I ordered a flush mount light which did not work in my renovation. I paid to ship it back. I STILL have not received a refund for both of these returns after weeks! I have followed up multiple times. Apparently it can take 30+ days? No thanks - I’ll be ordering from Home Depot next time.

Nice Light but missing two screws - Not great for a $700 purchase
I purchased, Hazy Lining Chandelier CH21129 BK. Black / Hazy GlassI like it but when assembling found its missing two thumb screws. (it requires multiple to hold on the glass panels) I contacted customer service and was asked to email pictures and some other information. Its TWO thumb SCREWS and its being researched and some kind of claim being filed for a a couple of screws if I follow their process correctly. I can google and find my own screws (they cost a couple dollars) but for $700 I would expect this company to better. I won't purchase anymore premium lights from this company because they have made a small problem - PAINFULL to solve and it is not my fault. Not at all a premium experience.

Ordered two lanterns for our Sumer…
Ordered two lanterns for our Summer house front porch. One arrived with broken pane. It was a giant pain to get them to replace it and took a long time. We had to return home and ended up installing it with the missing pane on the back so you don’t see it. Not impressed. 10/25/25 UPDATE: The AI customer reply to this review claimed that they were taking my return seriousoy but did not in any way address the return process including having to take photos of the packaging, saving the packaging and the timeline (too long) which was the basis of my original complaint. Way too much effort expended on my end for a replacement pane of glass.

Beautiful fixtures
Love my beautiful and unique light fixtures and received them quickly. Only problem is that a finial was missing. Customer service was great, but the only resolution would be to get a whole new unit which I considered a waste. Plus I cannot find a matching finial anywhere online.

Customer Service Support for Returns is Very Poor
I was not happy with the items I purchased - they did not appear in person as they did in the pictures online. I contacted your customer service to initiate a return two weeks+ ago, and was told that return labels would be sent to my email. As of yesterday, 9/22/25, I had not received the labels (how long does it take to generate return labels??), and I again, called you customer service office. The nice lady I spoke with told me she would make sure the labels got sent no later than today (9/23), and I still have not seen the labels so that I can return the items that I am not happy with.

Don't Purchase from Shades of Light
UPDATE 10/30/2025:We returned the light fixture a month ago and still have not received our refund. We checked proof of delivery and it was received/signed for on 10/8/2025. They either are extremely unorganized or are being very shady and trying to keep our money. Emailed about it, even though it shouldn't be up to us to continue to manage things for them. Their response to this to email customer service or call them is a joke too. We've been emailing with customer service, they don't even bother to reach out personally.Terrible experience with Shades of Light. They've shipped us items that came completely broken/shattered multiple times. One order was lost in delivery, unbeknownst to them, and was only reshipped when we notified them we never received it. We had asked if the exterior light came with a post and the person we were speaking to confirmed it did. Then we told them it didn't and they basically said, oops sorry we can give you a refund if you want. The people working there obviously have no knowledge of the products at their own job. Don't purchase from this company, it's a headache and waste of time. Wish I could provide screenshots of the interactions.

Good product, awful customer service
While I absolutely love my light, I’d never purchase from shades of light again. The customer service has been terrible (I never write reviews, and I’m not one to complain typically). First, I ordered a cream sconce, and when it came I was certain I was sent the wrong one by mistake because it was so grey. I reached out and they informed me this is just the color. No problem, I wanted to exchange for the all brass instead. However, since then I’ve had to follow up constantly to get return labels, information on my new shipment, and I’m still after 2 months trying to get the other half of my $225 refund. Apparently $115 of it was for shipping and they are working on getting that back to me? I followed up after 2 weeks of waiting for that refund 4 days ago and have gotten no answer. At this point, it looks like that money is just gone.

Do NOT use Shades of Light! Use other authorized distributor. They are dishonest in their pricing. Honored the catalog after order review, then added $59 for shipping. Be aware of pricing manipulation of product and shipping charges. Lumens better vendor!!

The quality of the mirror we purchased…
The quality of the mirror we purchased is unlike none we've ever seen...and I mean that in a very positive way! It is gorgeous and the mirror glass itself seems to be of superior quality to the "average" mirror. Was very impressed with the care taken in packaging and shipping vie FedEx Freight. Wife is VERY happy!
