Don't buy from them - Their warranty practices are misleading

Just called about my Herman Miller ($750) chair that I've had for 2 years. Madisonseating.com says it has a 10 year warranty on the products. The mechanism that raises and lowers the chair just failed. In order to have it fixed, i need to break the chair into two pieces and ship it to them (I have to pay for shipping) as well as pay a $95 shipping fee for them to return the chair. Poor business practice if they are going to say a 10 year warranty but have the customer eat all shipping costs on a product that failed.

Their Threats Are a Bluff. Here's What Actually Happened.

I purchased a refurbished Herman Miller Aeron chair for $559. It arrived with multiple defects: a gas cylinder that drops unexpectedly and arm assemblies that wobble and won't lock. When I contacted Madison Seating to arrange a return, they refused to schedule a pickup and instead demanded I source my own packaging materials, threatening fees of $100-$675 if the chair wasn't packed to their specifications — at my expense, for their defective product. I offered to make the chair available for pickup at my address. They refused.I filed a chargeback with Chase, who ruled in my favor. What followed was a weeks-long campaign of threatening emails and voicemails: repeated accusations that I was committing fraud, threats of small claims court, threats of collections, and — most seriously — an email stating they would send a deputy sheriff to my home address. Sheriffs do not respond to civil furniture disputes. This was a false legal threat designed to intimidate. On the same day Chase ruled in my favor, they called to accuse me of fraud again and threaten small claims court. They also repeatedly described themselves as a 'small family business' — public records indicate they operate multiple locations with approximately $16.8 million in annual revenue. This appears to be a pattern, not an isolated incident. Check BBB, Sitejabber, and Trustpilot for strikingly similar experiences. If you've had a similar experience — threats of sheriffs, fraud accusations, or small claims intimidation after disputing a defective product — consider filing a complaint with the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs at njconsumeraffairs.nj.gov. Documented patterns matter. The chair is still here. I offered pickup from day one. They refused. Draw your own conclusions.

Dishonest and deceptive - radioactively bad merchant

Purchased what I thought was a new Herman Miller Aeron in August of 2025. Within 6 months, cracked pieces of plastic fell off the underside and the chair piston started to spontaneously release. It was also impossible to tighten the tilt-back control. Was informed by a local authorized repair company that my chair couldn't be covered under warranty BECAUSE THEY STOPPED MAKING IT IN 2002. So, it turns out that I purchased a chair that was actually OLDER than the Aeron I was replacing! Rechecked all of my sales receipts and emails and confirmed that the words "used" or "refurbished" were never used to describe this chair. And don't get me started on their return/warranty policies - you pay for shipping both ways - easily more than the cost of the chair itself. IMO, these folks are liars and thieves. Oh - and did I mention that they have been sued by Herman Miller MULTIPLE times and are theoretically operating under a consent decree, which they are clearly breaking? They should have been shut down by the NJ AG years ago.

poor quality, shady customer support.

Chair came with broken plastic pieces falling out of it. A New – Open Box item really looked refurbished instead. The gas cylinder came wrapped in unnoticeable black tape, which made it nearly impossible to remove. They attempted to charge me $80 for it being scratched on return (you need to use a pipe wrench to remove it). Their return team claimed the chair was damaged on return. Fortunately, I took extensive photos and my full refund was processed. Not worth dealing with these people.

Poor quality and expensive returns - don't be deceived!

This store is designed to deceive. Despite touting 100% satisfaction guaranteed and free returns, only in the fine print of the Terms of Service does it say that for the majority of items, customers are required to pay their own return shipping and are not allowed to drop off items directly. Most of the items they sell cost $400-600 to ship, making returns entirely impractical. I spent nearly $700 on a chair, only to find out that it included aftermarket parts and was not to my expectations of quality or comfort. The packing slip clearly stated that their Support team would provide a return shipping label upon request, but upon reaching out, I received an aggressive reply saying that the shipping label offer didn't apply to my purchase, and that I should have read the terms of service prior to purchase.

Bad customer service

Madison has no customer service. I called in order to get information on a simple but important question. Instead of simply addressing the matter on the phone they told me to hang up and go online.Like too many these days, Madison's staff are nothing but brain dead computer zombies who unable to do anything without a computer and nothing with one either. Moreover, from the other reviews it would appear that everything they ship out in nothing but broken junk.

Great customer service!

My Leap Chair by Steelcase arrived damaged, but Madison Seating handled it super well. Annie from customer service responded right away and sent me a replacement without making me return the old one.

Great Customer Service

I ordered a chair (at a great price). Unfortunately, the chair arrived broken. Customer service responded quickly and is shipping a new chair. Additionally, I did not have to go through the inconvenience of sending the damaged chair back!

The chair was not as advertised

*Update in response to seller*I NEVER requested I be sent ANYTHING. I requested a return/refund, which was completed. I did not want any parts sent to me. The seller is flat out lying to try to look better. Look at other reviews and you will see a pattern. The item description is still incorrect and has not been updated. The chair was not as advertised. The chair was advertised as including the "butterfly suspension" back. The chair does not include that back option. When initiating the return, support argued with me and refused to acknowledge the incorrect item description. Due to my dissatisfaction with the chair, I chose to return. After requesting the return, the seller blocked me from making any additional purchases (I intended to purchase a more expensive chair). I would beware of this seller.

This was my third purchase from Madison seating. The first two Aeron chairs were perfect—no issues, great packaging, easy to assemble. The third chair arrived intact, but had a broken seating mechanism. Probably happened in transit. The customer service team quickly addressed the issue and sent a replacement. Would purchase again.

Be Wary! These may be "half priced' but are also VERY used

I recently purchased a Herman Miller Aeron Chair from Madison Seating. The chair arrived in a damaged box at the very end of the quoted delivery period (14 days), in a pretty beat up box that had two significant holes and a crushed corner. This was one of three chair models that I planned to buy from Madison in order to "test" which chairs might work best for our company (9 employees). When the box was opened, there were no instructions on how to assemble the chair but the back and and "posture fit" cable were the only parts that needed attachment. A simple search online found a couple of videos, and we were able to successfully assemble the chair. On closer inspection, there were a number of scratches and chips on the base and frame of the chair. The vinyl armrests showed more significant damage, which seemed to be caused by shipping as the inside of the box showed signs of contact with the armrests. The pellicle mesh seating area was also stained. I contacted Madison the following day by email, including photos, and received an email response explaining [Per our website:"Open Box" simply means, the item is out of the original packaging. The chair was either, returned, refurbished, on display or has been in inventory for awhile and since been placed on a clearance. The merchandise is in perfect working condition with minor cosmetic wear to be expected.]In hindsight, I would say the chair I received was VERY used, and the mechanical adjustors are useable but not nearly as crisp and responsive as a new chair. On a scale of 1 to 10 for value, I would give this a 4.

Good customer service

Bought a steelcase leap v2 plat edition from them. Price is fair and shipping was fast from NJ to PA. Although chair was damaged in transit, their customer service promptly sent me a new one without me having to send back the damaged chair. Good experience overall and I was satisfied with how they resolved my issue.
