This is an almost perfect platform.I've used Heartbeat for the last 2-3 years to host a community. The "course" element is excellent, much better than similar tools like Teachable or Thrivecart's course add-on. It's easy to publish courses, get homework/assignments from students, etc. If you just need a place to host courses and review student work, Heartbeat is excellent. The BIG downside to Heartbeat is the forum/community UI/UX ... no subjects/titles on posts, one LONG scroll to find new posts, and no sorting by date. It's basically set up like a chatroom with one single thread (or appears that way to the user), not a true bulletin board or discussion area like Circle or phpBB, with different posts you can pull up in different tabs by clicking on the post subject. If they could fix this, it would be perfect. The team behind Heartbeat is great. They have a monthly update presentation that's open to users and the development of the platform has been continuous from what I've seen. There's a good community of people using the platform, so you'll likely be able to get any questions you have answered via their forum if you can work with its limitations (see above).Overall, I think it's excellent for people selling courses. If you have a heavy community and want a lot of interaction via forum, I would look at other options before committing.
Worthless support. I signed up for a course and then my access was later pulled. After the administrator gave me access again. Heartbeat support would not allow re-entry and kept telling me I had to keep going back to the administrator. I asked why they did not speak to the administrator directly instead of going back and forth with me, I was told they don't speak to the administrator. So to me, that leaves the person needing support, unable to be helped and screwed over. I paid for the course, but can't get access to what I paid for. Thanks Mafalda for clearing things up. Worthless.
If you value your time or run a professional business—avoid Heartbeat. I spent over two weeks setting up a private community space for licensed professionals, paid for the platform, and still found out critical features either don’t work as promised or are intentionally buried behind misleading design. You cannot customize login behavior in any meaningful way. My members are forced to get a new login link every time they want to access the community—even on the paid plan. That alone is a non-starter for any serious business. But it gets worse.Channels say they’re private, but unless you spend hours digging into hidden menus and triple-checking access groups and onboarding settings, you won’t even know if they’re secure. There’s no clear indication of what non-admin members can actually see. And even once you’ve “locked” them, the entire structure still looks like it’s public-facing, creating confusion for both you and your members.Their UI is a mess—poorly labeled, error-prone (you can’t even use an ampersand without the platform breaking), and nowhere near intuitive. What should’ve been a simple setup turned into days of backtracking and tech support-level guesswork. Add to that misleading login UX, rigid templates, and zero onboarding support—and it becomes obvious this platform was not designed for real-world professionals. It was designed to look like a community tool, but not function like one at scale. In writing what LOOKED LIKE a third party review, I was into 5 pages plus screenshots of my review when I realized they don't want a review. That's why you see a lack of reporting about this time and money waste. DON'T BUY THIS APP.If you’re a coach or creator who loves wasting your time and enjoys friction and confusion, maybe this will be fine. But if you are running an actual organization that needs clean onboarding, reliable access control, and member trust—this is not the platform. At this point, I don't know if this is an actual platform or an email collection account.I wasted time. I wasted money.
I completed my paid training course but did not receive my certificate, neither did anyone respond to me when I reach out to Heartbeat. I still want my certificate.
I think it’s an outstanding platform—an all-in-one solution to run your community, online courses, and sell digital products.I’ve been using it for three years now, and they’ve consistently rolled out new features and improvements. For example, they recently launched a new payment system that lets you create custom offers, multiple subscription tiers, time and quantity limits to build FOMO, and even fully built landing pages. One feature I really appreciate is the automation system—for welcoming new members and handling cancellations. It allows you to win back customers with targeted offers or downgrade options. There are tons of features I’m not even mentioning, but these are the ones that stood out the most to me.That said, there’s one missing piece I hope they add soon (it’s on the roadmap): the ability to leave comments directly on lessons within a course. Finally, I’m honestly surprised when people mention poor support. Not only do they have an active user community, but they also run regular support and training sessions, and their team replies super quickly when you reach out. Just this week, I went through a really complex payment migration, and they handled everything—including extra work on my end they absolutely didn’t have to do.I actually have a second community project in the works, and after looking at the market, there’s a good chance I’ll build that on Heartbeat too.All in all, amazing software and an even better team.
Heartbeat is rich with features and consistently expanding, which initially made me excited about building my community using their platform. However, their customer support has been disappointing. Within the 14-day trial period, they proactively reached out to ask how things were going, and I responded in detail, expressing my concerns. They promised to get back to me within three hours, but it has now been approximately four days without any follow-up.This lack of responsiveness, especially during the trial period when support should be at its best, raises significant concerns about how reliable their service would be once I'm a paying customer. Strong customer support is critical for anyone looking to establish and sustain an active community, and unfortunately, my experience so far doesn't inspire confidence.
I've been waiting for a response on my ticket for 21 days. 21 days!? This company sends weekly emails about new features and why their platform is becoming better and better. Why dont hire some more customer service representatives. This is straight up bad business ethics to treat existing customers that way.
Great platform, terrible customer service. You have to wait at least 5 days to get answers on issues which are revenue critical (ie customers not being able to login or signup so we lose money).
Heartbeat has really evolved into an amazing platform. The team behind it are very responsive and there are regular live workshops and ways to support Heartbeat community owners. The platform is really user-friendly and I think the app is more intuitive than most other community platforms. I wanted a platform where my courses, community and live events were all in one place. Heartbeat is perfect for that. Highly recommended.
Can you believe that when you don't continue with their paid plans, you cannot get access to the dashboard where you can remove/delete your account's connection to your Stripe payment account? Something so important, and you cannot get to it. No reply when you contact them too. Don't recommend. In fact, be very wary and careful with such products/providers.
I am surprised to read about others' experience with customer service because I have had an AMAZING experience with them. They ALWAYS reply to me and offer friendly solutions.I have referred colleagues to join this platform and leave other LMS "all-in-ones" as well. The platform is SO smooth and user-friendly. They've really thought things through to make the platform extremely capable while keeping it extremely easy.I LOVE it and am excited to have finally found something that solves all of my needs and wants!Thank you Heartbeat!
An ok app which needs a lot of refinement (which is fine because it is relatively new) BUT, the world's worst customer support. SOME emails get a reply, but often asking for screenshots to confirm clearly explained issues...then there will be no reply to the follow up message EVER! Many have complained about this, the team promised better support after bringing in a new customer service person, but nothing changed. Good management means anticipating service needs and even getting more support than anticipated. How would it be if you use this for your large community and then something goes wrong and yet there is no support to assist and your members leave in droves?
My original review for them was not good but they got back to me yesterday several times and so all is good now. I will revise my rating up now. They signed a lot of people on recently via APPSUMO so they are WAY behind. if you sign up with them you may experience a significant time delay on response. The software is very good though, lots of features and the owners enthusiastic. Give it a try but you will have to be VERY patient with support (one star off for this)
Still super new, but the founders have been amazingly awesome in onboarding. The apps work seamlessly across devices and I'm just having an amazing time that I felt compelled to come here and tell the world. You still have to apply to start a community, but I have big hopes for it.
