Avoid like a plague

Avoid like a plague. After years of struggling, we are migrating elsewhere and I feel such an immense relief.Yes, it's cheap. But that's about it.- The checkout is years behind industry standard, it's simply horrible experience that will cost you customers. They can't do this integral part of experience right, which should be enough to ignore this product.- We weren't able to make the purchase analytics codes work. It worked, they changed something, it stopped working. Multiple times. - Once they plastered their logo all over our products. It was literally everywhere multiple times. Took weeks to solve.- They made the plans more expensive AND then send an e-mail over the weekend that they will be basically shortening remaining period of yearly plans accordingly (how the F is this legal?!). Maybe ok for absolute beginners to try something for a first time but if you want to build a business you probably want to do it wit reliable partner.

Doesn't work with IOSS VAT and other DDP shipping

Doesn't work with IOSS VAT and other DDP / duty collection at checkout.Incredibly, 5 years on from IOSS being introduced, Ecwid still doesn't actually work properly with IOSS, or other collection of taxes at checkout. There is only one option for tax settings, which forces you to choose Display Prices including Tax or Display Prices excluding Tax.By law in the UK and EU prices displayed have to include VAT, so the only legal option is Prices include Tax. The problem is, Ecwid then keeps the price for items the same regardless of the tax rate, and just recalculates how much of the order total is tax.This means if you sell an item that is normally £100 including 20% VAT in your country, and you sell to a customer with a USA DDP service, where the tariff rate could be as high as 35-70%, Ecwid checkout will still only charge the customer £100, and a much larger percentage of the sale will be tax. Meaning you effectively pay a large chunk of the tariffs for the customer, because instead of paying £17 VAT on that £100 you are paying £35-£70 in tariffs.Similarly if you sell under IOSS to EU countries, the price will stay the same at £100 regardless of whether it's 20% France VAT or 27% Hungary VAT. again meaning you have to swallow some of the tax cost to any country that has a higher VAT rate than your country. it also means that you overcharge customers in a country with a lower VAT rate than your country, which I very much doubt is legal.There is no option to change this, without choosing Display Prices excluding Tax. At this point tax is calculated correctly at different reates to different countries, but all store prices are shown excluding VAT , which is not legal in the UK or EU.Basically there is no way to be legal and compliant with IOSS using Ecwid.This is just another issue in a long line of problems we have discovered with Ecwid in less than two year, and generally the answer is "it's working as intended" or "we're looking into this but we don't have a solution at this time". None of the problems we have identified and reported have been fixed yet.

They suck to put it lightly

They suck to put it lightly. Their interface is terrible and their customer service reps admit it doesnt work right. Just spent the better part of the last 2 hours simply trying to format the description of an item on my strorefront and the platform simply cannot handle it. Every press of the keyboard creates HTML code behind the scenes that messes up everything and you cannot fix it. You have to find a way to code with HTML if you want to use this platform. Good luck with that. And then simple changes will be a nightmare because it has to be in code from then on. Seeing so many bad reviews here just confirms what I already know. Dont use them!!!! you will regret it

STAY AWAY FROM ECWID IF YOU WANT TO PRESERVE MENTAL HEALTH!!!It took us months to make sure we had completely merged all of our data and stores out of Ecwid, now owned by LightSpeed.The name "Ecwid" should be changed to a new brand it no longer serves the chore values Ecwid was founded upon. This new parent company has no values when it comes to customers or users. USE AT YOUR OW N RISK!!PRO:The platform, UI, customer service and all the features Ecwid was founded on are still available which were the reasons why we made Ecwid our preferred eCommerce platform of all time. Ecwid was built for small business owners and stores, user friendliness, simplicity and efficiency. We are a Marketing Agency, small but still powerful, who decided to join Ecwid's Agency Program and into building a better and strong product to the market by bringing in an important amount of sub-users, customers and users. You can look us up in the recommended Partners page:CONS:Since Ecwid was acquired by LightSpeed about 3-4 years ago changes started to take effect in portions up to today Feb. 6th 2026:1) First they promised nothing would affect the current user accounts in the platform.2) After the first year the eliminated all or most of the Ecwid's crew and announced that they would kick us all out!!! YES many of us, agencies that put a lot of effort and resources to get customers and choose Ecwid to work with instead of Shopify or Wix, etc.3) 1 Year after they hold up to that promise kicking us out and replacing all of our brand names with theirs. This impact had a 99% effect on our business and credibility. Even after announcing the change to customers, they still cancelled while Ecwid kept some of them at a lower cost.4) 1 Year after they just announced the free plan is now paid, like taking away candy from a baby... This is why "Trials" are for. You can't market "FREE FOREVER" and just decide you will now get people to pay you....You could have said well from now on, NEW USERS get to choose a paid plan cause you do not offer Free Plans any longer...in our humble and honest opinion. The fact that these decisions were taken means a lot. 5) Today They announce that they will add another 10 dollars to the subscription plans on top of the previous 30 dollars they had already dropped on its prices in the previous year.CONCLUSION:YOU DO NOT KNOW WHERE YOU ARE HEADED WITH THIS COMPANY!!!Maybe tomorrow they say sorry, we no longer want to serve your country, location or group.... And you are left to rebuild everything from zero unless you accept to pay them more.This looks and feels like a MAFIA behavior and NOT a provider looking for a long-time Honest Business Relationship.WE ARE OUT BLEEDING AND HURT...We have wasted Months.....SAVE YOURSWe will survive this ofcourse.Make sure you avoid this yourself and your business.

Audacious and unfair price increases

Ecwid have hiked up their prices by £5 GBP/mo for 3 years running, for little to no practical benefit to the end user.To further add insult to injury, the latest price increase for the "Venture" package is now either £35 GBP, €35 EUR or $35 USD. Let's convert that using exchange rates as of 2nd Feb 2026:£35 GBP = $47.85 USD€35 EUR = $41.38$35 USD = $35 USDUnacceptable and exploitative.

I just dumped them after 1 week

I just dumped them after 1 week, I got a free website design from them via my domain host, they just barged in and dumpe this pretty basic design onto my domain and not looking or thinking I might hace links to pages on the back end of my site, even if I had no landing page. Caused me a lot of work this morning and yes, as others have said, its slow, and bloated with what they load onto your wordpress site... It was a waste of time as most free things are.

Not good for customizability or speed, and I don't trust their work ethics

I used this for two months, trying all I could to make it suit my website, however there are clear limitations with its customizability (e.g., colours, sizes, layouts, fonts, etc.), and even more of a problem with its speed.The product page takes over 4 seconds to load (doesn't sound like a lot, but when your business is to sell things, people quickly distrust a service which they sit around waiting for). To note, I ensured this was on Ecwids' side and not my server.This could be acceptable if you're willing to live with those, however the way they portray theirself makes me not believe in them whatsoever; It took 10+ clicks from pressing "Cancel plan subscription" to *actually* cancelling my subscription. At which point, you have mandatory questions to answer as to why you're cancelling.Worse though, they immediately cancel any service you have with no regard to you paying for the whole month.They also charged me 3 days prior to when they were supposed to based on my subscription - Maybe that's just how they work but it was concerning for me.The *only* reason I'm not giving 1 star is that it "functions", assuming you can afford the expense, don't care about speed or customizability, and trust their work ethic.

No solution for Peppol invoicing (legally required in many countries in Europe)

Be aware that this platform does not support Peppol invoicing (legally required in Belgium and other European countries). We (as well as many other clients) warned Ecwid-Lightspeed at least 6 months before the deadline. We reveived very kind and reassuring messages from their helpdesk but in the end they did NOT provide any solution. They continue to be 'aware of the problem and share our concerns' but unfortunately no integration or other solution has even been scheduled'. If you want to avoid serious financial consequences (and simply be able to stay operational in Europe): do not choose Ecwid-Lightspeed.

Lightspeed just killed my client's…

Lightspeed just killed my client's entire ECWID store history by removing the free plan and blocking all access unless he pays them. That is CRIMINAL. No warning, just "choose a new plan" when trying to log in, or no access. Extortion.There was a good reason he used the free plan. He has ONE PRODUCT. He just needs to display it and take the money. It's not worth a subscription.I've recommended ECWID to my clients for as long as ECWID has existed. I would not touch it with a bargepole as of today. Since Lightspeed took over they have consistently increased price, limited functionality, and finally killed the "Free Forever" plan and screwed over everyone using it. Greed is their driver.I've been obliged to spend my weekend building a new store on a new cart for my client, just so he can accept orders again.Don't use ECWID.

No trust in this company anymore

Ecwid decided to eliminate their free plan without any prior notice, furthermore blocking all access to its dashboard (and all your data) unless a paid plan is activated, without offering any temporary or trial options. This makes it impossible for users to retrieve receipts, the product catalog, manage the catalog and products, or your account details.Is this legal? I don't know, but a smoother transition for existing customers would have been a more appropriate decision, but it was decided otherwise. This leaves a terrible impression and conveys no trust in this company.They give you no choice but to abandon them immediately and choose any other e-commerce service.

No way to cancel/pause, only delete your account

It was free, now it's not. Ok, so they need to make money.I want to buy a single month to see how that goes, so I sign up. No option to pause or cancel in their web interface. Google shows nothing. No mention in site search for "cancel".There are some references to a special pause plan attached to business accounts but that's more money than the simple plan I'm on. The only way is to suddenly delete my account forever.Seems like they've rushed through some new pricing models without considering the impact on the end-user. Will be leaving the platform at the end of the first month.

Massive annual increase!

I'm actual an Ecwid client for many years - and I was always happy ( Business plan) but this years annual increase of 53% is insane - Yes, some new features but nothing dramatic. There was no annual fee increase email that they should have sent out in March! Many support chats later - no real answers to my questions on the increase. Very dissapointed ...Careless support- not a happy client

Stop of free plan

I used Ecwid free for a small nonprofit. Suddenly they stop the plan. Of course they may stop a free service, but to give people Only a period of 10 days (!!!) to search for an alternative is idiot.Never ever choose this unreliable company!

Potential ECWID Lightspeed plugin compatibility issues with Dreamhost hosting

If your planning to utilize Dreamhost hosting service , be aware that the ECWID Lightspeed E-commerce plugin they link to utilize to build your site appears to have compatibility problems . On my Dreamhost website, the Store was setup my Dreamhost using the ECWID plugin and it worked for a short period and then the ECWID dashboard would not work within the Dreamhost WordPress wp-admin interface and now I have to separately access my Store product settings directly through my ECWID account. I turned this issue over to Dreamhost to resolve and nothing they did fixed the problem and they told me to talk to ECWID Lightspeed support and I did. I gave ECWID Lightspeed administrator level access to my site for 3 weeks at their request with no solutions provided by them other than Dreamhost needs to resolve. So as a customer for both Dreamhost and ECWID Lightspeed, the issue remains unresolved and both sides are treating this issue like a "Hot Potato" will neither party accepting responsibility to resolve it. So customer BEWARE there appears to be compatibility problems here. ECWID support stated that Dreamhost support which built the site left a developer ID in my Store configuration in addition to the correct registered Store ID for my site . Neither party is sure where this is what is causing my ECWID dashboard access problem, it's a figure pointing issue between each party which tells me their are most likely inherent compatibility issues, not saying this will happen to you if you use ECWID Lightspeed E-commerce plugin within Dreamhost but I don't think I am alone here. I still rated Dreamhost very high in a separate Trustpilot review because I believe this is ECWID Lightspeed issue and they don't want to attend to it. Dreamhost continues to use their plugin and I think all potential customers should be aware so you raise the issue upfront to them if you choose to go down the path I chose. Hope you find this valuable!

Limited functionality to manage…

Limited functionality to manage inventory and products. Have used for several years, bugs and limitations remain despite "we have it in the backlog", they have nothing going on it is slop.
