Cutco - 25 Years Later.

I had a girlfriend and her sister sold Cutco Knives...I had a house in Calgary and one in the Okanagan and thought I'd give it a try...Mostly because of the relationship but also because the product looked like a quality offering.Well, I can tell you that the Cutco knives lasted much longer than the relationship...Fast forward, 20 years...I had a tip off of the big knife while chipping some ice and somehow a very small tip broke off.I always knew about the "lifetime guarantee" but never took the time or effort to actually send in my knives for a sharpening and a request to fix the tip of the knife.Anyway, I always meant to write a positive review but never did (shame on me)...Anyway, in my 62 years of life...I've rarely recommended any product or company BUT today I decided to finally write a review...Yes, I paid for a quality product BUT the delivered when I asked for service.I can now sleep better...

Knives are good; Don't buy cookware unless you plan to keep it!

Though we have enjoyed the knives with their warranty, we purchased the cookware thru a local rep (that was very honest and helpful) and were told we could try it and send it back for a full refund within 30 days. We really wanted to like it, but it took too much work and concern about how various things were cooked on it, etc. So we decided we needed to return the set. I tried to contact our rep but found he was out doing shows and not available. Went to Cutco site for customer service and noted they said it was a 15 day return and we were on day 13, so I asked how to return. We understood we have to pay, but did NOT understand that it would cost us $154.62 at the least expensive reputable company. I specifically asked if it would be less expensive thru our local rep and was told NO...had to go thru this process and pay that amount. So we did in order to meet the return deadline. I finally got a response from my local rep and he said he would get a return shipping label for $17!!! I contacted Cutco for a refund since their service line gave me the wrong answer, but they won't do anything except tell me I should have gone thru my local rep. I have the email to prove I tried and would have missed the deadline, but no give whatsoever or owning of the mistake. I'm saddened by the poor customer service experience and just warn everyone NOT to purchase the cookware unless you are certain you would not return it!

Scummy Practices and Pressure Sales

My husband and I were given a sales pitch via Skype by a family member we didn't even know because they wanted to "practice". They got a hold of us through a different family member. Apparently training was paid and it was only supposed to take about an hour or so. We understood that it was supposed to go to their college fund and were willing to give them the time. The presentation was a mixture of slideshows and live demonstration. I have to say I was pretty impressed when they cut a penny in half with the scissors. What I was not impressed with was the pressure sales. It was not actually just practice, they were really trying to sell to us. They told us what other family members had bought, got us to make a wish list, offered amazing deals on the things we "wanted" (but those deals were only available right then), and tried to get 5 referrals out of us.I surreptitiously did some research while they were presenting and found out that Cutco is an MLM. Their sales model specifically targets young people and they are supposed to only reach out to people that they get direct referrals for, especially family.I'm fairly immune to pressure sales so I didn't have a hard time saying no, but found out that another family member who is short on cash caved and spent over $600. From what I understand the knives aren't bad, and the lifetime replacement is probably part of why they are so expensive. However, having a couple of good knives already, I didn't really buy it. I was also really unimpressed with some of the script they were going off of and the way the company targets family members to try and guilt people into buying. Save your money and get a good knife elsewhere.

Cutco cant cut it

If you like spending alot of money on a sub par product then cutco is the way to go . I spent over $1200.00 on a full kitchen knife set . They dulled quickly ( with in month of owning) and then cutco asks you to send them the knives for up to a month so they can sharpen them...rediculous . I then found out that these are stamped knives and not forged which would explain the cheap blade quality. Over rated over priced products, I use a $5.00 peeler purchased from Safeway that's better than theirs. The larger chopping knives just cant handle daily use. Much better options out there for way less.

Love the Guarantee

Love the Guarantee. I mailed my Grandmother's Carver in for service and they sent me a brand new knife. Can't beat it.

We have been using cutco knives in our home for over 50 years. Top quality, worth every penny. Forever guarantee means these will be passed on to my kids.

So far, everything my mother said they would be.

Cutco 1764, 3721, 4120, 77KU, and by far my absolute favorite 1766. Pricey to say the least and if you want finger parts in your salad, these will definitely do the trick. The handles seem really dated but fit perfectly in your hand with all models. I got the sheaths with mine except for the paring knife and would definitely recommend doing the same if you have the option You can definitely get an equivalent set of shears (or a dozen) that will do the same job but the set matches very nicely together. We have been very happy so far with this purchase.

Lifetime knives

Lifetime knives. It’s an investment but worth every penny. I have many knives and always go for my cutcos first. Literally had one of my cutco knives melt in the dishwasher and they replaced it. Amazing.

Complete sham marketing

Complete sham marketing. Overpriced knives. I was a part of this industry for too long and I will never purchase Cutco knives or recommend them to anyone ever again.
