Unreliable

Unreliable. We have had the halo collar for a bit over a year. When it works from the companies end and the wifi is functioning then its a good collar. The biggest drawback is how often thy shut down the collar then send us an email saying we need to fill out a warranty form, and then sometime in the next few weeks we get a new collar. My problem is that we have an outdoor dog, and when the collar gets turned off we have to either tie up the dog, or keep getting him from the neighbors. Also one time the dog kept getting shocks from the collar the whole time, we didnt know what was up with the dog, but obviously he was very miserable due to the constant shocks. So its the unreliability that would make me suggest to try a different collar. I realize that things can sometimes break, but I would think that as soon as they get a notification that there is an error on their end, they should send out a collar ASAP and also refund that month's subscription fees where the collar wasnt working. Then it would seem more taken care of. But at this point I would not recommend it.

Don’t buy

Not this time, I tried to get help and a question answered about the collar. I was referred to the videos. I believe the collar is too large for my 25 lb. Dog. So now I can return it for a refund less shipping and a few other fees. Oh and then the subscription. You have to take out prior to activation. Refund prorated even though I have t made it out of myLiving room. Collar might be great but customer service, no thanks.

Best collars ever!

We moved to rural Ontario, Canada in 2021 to 3.3 acres of flat and wooded land. We tried almost all of the things - other than an underground "invisible" fence. We did tractive, we did static collars, we did tractive WITH static collars. The tractive and static collars worked fine, except you'd have to constantly be looking at the tractive app to see where they were AND then call them back by feedback or static. Let's face it - who has time for that?7 months ago, we finally took the jump, when a very angry/aggressive man, who claimed to be our neighbor (we have never seen him before in the entire time we've been living here) said that our dogs were in his yard "again", and he threatened us on our doorbell camera, "tie your dogs up or lose them". So, of course we got the authorities involved, but we also got the Halo collars to keep our dogs SAFE. I am finally ready to properly rate the collars. Can I just tell you the amount of PEACE and PEACE OF MIND the collars have given us. These collars have literally changed everything for us. We can see our dogs at all times (on the app) we are notified of warnings and feedback. We are no longer worried about threats to our dogs.I do want to caveat that these collars instantly worked for us because we had previously trained our dogs on the static collars. So, our girls were well aware what the static/touch meant and instantly determined boundaries with no issues.I am so thankful for Halo for keeping our girls safe and giving us piece of mind.

Buyer beware

Buyer beware! These collars have consistent system errors! The first collar burned my dogs neck which created anxiety and fear of the collar. Then the collars stopped working all togetherI have 2 large dogs and have replaced the collars 8 times and still system errors and not working!!! If the company is reading this please solve the problem with these collars for me - am I getting used ones? I can't understand how this could continue to be a problem and this company still be in business.

**Halo Dog Collars: One Golden Retriever Breeder’s Venture Into a Never‑Ending Money Pit**

I usually keep 95% of my reviews positive because I believe highlighting great experiences is the best way to reward exceptional customer service. But this situation deserves to be documented.I was one of Halo’s original customers. In 2021, with almost no company history to rely on, I took a gamble and paid $1,000 for a dog collar. As a responsible Golden Retriever breeder, I wanted to lead by example and keep my dogs safe, so I jumped on the Halo train early. That purchase included a lifetime subscription with no additional charges. After buying it, I sent all my dogs to in‑boarding training and ended up using the collar only 1–2 times. Recently, my female had puppies and I kept one, so I pulled out my basically brand‑new collar. The software informed me it was no longer fully functional. Fine — I figured I’d just use the free collar upgrades included in my plan. Except the collar had “security issues” and wouldn’t work even with updates. When I logged in and contacted customer service, I learned that my lifetime subscription had been conveniently “sunset.” Not certain what lifetime means to Halo but okay. My collar would no longer work due to security update problems conviently blamed on Microsoft. Being the Enterpise Architect for the State of Minnesota you are blaming another company for closing a security bug that your device is succeptable to? Come on already!!!!! I was informed I could “fix” all my problems by subscribing to a new monthly plan for $13, since my lifetime plan was conveniently discontinued. Once subscribed, I could upgrade to their newest Gen 5 collar — four generations newer — for $179.Frustrating, but I accepted that I’d been hosed as an early adopter. I paid the $13, clicked the link to get my Gen 5 collar, and waited.**More surprises:** instead of a Gen 5, I can get a Gen 4 for $100. Thank you sir, may I have another whipping.I called again and asked if I could simply get the Gen 5 for $180 and consider it a $1,200 “ongoing education” — one I now get to pay for monthly, despite already having paid for a lifetime subscription on my Gen 1 for a cool $1000. The answer was no. I could get the Gen 4 now for $100, and later pay an additional $180 to upgrade to the Gen 5 if I wanted it to do that. A classic bait‑and‑switch maneuver I had been caught up in, hook line and sinkerAs a breeder, I’m part of several large communities of pet owners and dog lovers, and I’m frequently asked for product recommendations — including for collars exactly like this. I was looking forward to trying this out and giving honest genuine feedback to my clients and peer community. Even if Halo had the best product on the market (which I can’t even vouch for after investing $1,200), I can’t recommend them based on these ABSOLUTE SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICES. But be certain I will definitely be getting the word on the street of my experience to these same people.Where are the companies that value their original customers — the ones who took the risk early? I wasn’t expecting a free lunch. I went along with every hoop they asked me to jump through until the final straw broke this camel’s back.

Returned collar due to being defective…

Returned collar due to being defective or not functioning as advertised. Would constantly fail to connect to the app, would give my dog feedback when they weren’t near the perimeter. Shipped it back as they have a 90day money back guarantee. Except it’s not all your money. They kept $45 without a reason. I had the collar for 3 week… Do not buy expecting to get ALL of your money back as any other retailer.

Nice app, cheaply built collars

The app design, functionality of the collars, and features that come with the collars are great. The collars themselves have a poor design. We have two dogs, one is very active and one is less active. We’ve had the collars for 2 months. For our dog that is more active the metal clamps on the end of the collars have fallen off 3 separate times. Once for the less active dog. The screws that hold the collar together have fallen out several times for both dogs. I got lucky and found the screws in the yard once. To Halo’s credit, they sent me replacement parts for each, but it’s a problem that looks like it will continue to happen. I’m not sure what the long term answer is for the collars falling apart, but for nearly $600, I expected these to stay together WAY better than they have. Not 100% sure these are worth the price, but if you don’t want to bury an electric fence, it’s tough to find a better option.

I started when they started

When I first got my collar in 21 they were new and so was my dog. Well their first collars were not that good. But I stayed with them and they kept their promice and keptt working with me to get things right. Well 4 year later my dog still doesn't awant to wear the collar but he knows what it does. He is A Belgin Malinois (Very Smart) and the collar keeps him in line. And when he does chase a deer or a fox it is easy to fine him. I would love to get the new collar because I believe they have it down now. So for anyone wanting to train their dog or keep it in the yard this is what you need.

Customer Service is the worst

The product I can not speak for, but when I called customer support with a few simple questions about the plan I was hung up on when I asked to speak for a supervisor all because I was not able to find my order number when she asked for it. I was told multiple times it is a security issue for them to give me info on their plane when i just purchased two collars and was fixing to buy a 2 year plan. I will be retuning the collars and going with another company. You would figure with spending almost $1,200 on two collars and fixing to spend more money on the two year plane they would be a little bit more op to answer a question regarding the plans.

Got the halo 5 collar

Got the halo 5 collar as gift. They won't let you write a review on Amazon unless you actually purchased it so I'm writing one here. I've had it for a week now. The first day I was staying with a friend and they have good cell service where they're at. It worked great and I was very pleased. The real test was going to be my home though. I live in a rural area. The cell service isn't great, lots of dead zones in the neighborhood, absolutely no service inside the house. The second day we tested it at home and it did great again. His location was spot on, my location is a bit off though. It gave great updates. But once we step inside the house it lost all connection, even when connected to Wi-Fi. After day 2 it stopped being as accurate. I've had to edit my fence line because it'll say he's on the line even though he's not even close. I've noticed this happens mostly in the areas with thick trees on the line. It can't find his location very well if he's under thick, big trees. Which is a bummer because we have a lot of those in the PNW and many trails we hike have thick tree canopies. A lot of the time it'll lose his location completely if he's under them. If I'm paying $180/year for the service I'd expect it to work better. The app is ok. I'm still getting used to it. There's one part that tells you "ready to use" "whistle only....." "Tracking" it changed the update frequently when he's wearing it but I can't see what it's saying if there's more than 2 words or gets blocked by something. I do appreciate being able to turn off and on the fences. But I'll need to get used to remembering to turn it off when we leave the house.I haven't put the prongs in yet because we're still trying to figure out the best fence lines. So it only beeps and whistles for now. I worked with him a bit with a regular e collar as a"test run" to see if he'd even respond to the halo collar before making such a big purchase. So he was already used to the beep meaning he needs to come back or move away. The battery life is only 24hrs NOT 48 like all the ads say. Once I take the collar off the charger it'll say how many hours are left for use. 20 minutes of use can use up 3-5% of bettery. The collar is nice. Feels sturdy. Has survived heavy rain so far. Wish it came with a "D ring" to put his leash on if needed. I have to keep 2 collars on him just in case. It would also be nice if it came with different material options or the band and the cover. Velcro collects a lot of fur and it's a pain to get out.You technically can use this like an training e-collar. You just press the button you want to use. Warning beep, vibrate, or static, or use whistle, and either custom noise. Would be easier if you had a little remote rather than having to pull out, open/unlock phone, open app (which can take a minute or 2 to load, then press the feature that lets you do the buttons. In some scenarios, seconds can be crucial. For now I give 3 stars. For the price and extra payment packages I'd expect a better job of tracking and getting a signal under a tree or bush. I will update as I use it more and we become more experienced with the collar.

Company seems great, the collar leaves a little to be desired

Ultimately I'm glad I tried the Halo Collar, and assuming I get my full money back once the collar is received bacl I don't have anything bad to say about the company. That said, the collar did not work for me at all. I live in the suburbs pretty close to a city, where cell and GPS service is very strong, but the collar was constantly going out of service in the woods behind our home where I like to take my dog off leash. I could not use any of the features as advertised because the GPS service was so bad. I was worried about buying the collar because I also have a very small house lot, and they did say that the collar may not work as great if the fence is 20 feet or less from the house.... and they are correct. The collar was constantly beeping my dog and warning him when he was nowhere near the fence. I realized that even when I do the "find my phone" feature it never really knows where I am... and that was the case with the collar. It was constantly showing my dog nowhere close to where he actually was. I think the GPS is just really wonky in my little lakeside neighbhorhood with houses close together. My biggest complaint is they shouldn't advertise this for outdoor adventures if the GPS fails so often.

The collar was working great until…not waterproof

The collar was working great until about a year in. Every time it would get just a little wet it would take days to dry out and charge again. It finally stopped charging at all. All because it’s not waterproof as described. Our dog never went deeper than a couple inches and swam for 30 second dips. it ruined the collar. Had someone told me that would cut the life short, I would’ve put a fence up around our pond, but I was told that it was waterproof. Now I’d have to buy a brand new collar because they say "we don’t know if it was the water that damaged it". Even though it would only not work if it got wet. So, don’t get this if you have any type of water on your property or at least put a fence up so they can’t swim.. because it doesn’t work as advertised.

We were so stupid buying halo collar…

We were so stupid buying halo collar 2-times our dogs ran right through the marked fence. We live near a very busy highway. We did everything the videos showed us to do, during the training period. We have had this for about 1 1/2 years and still no results. We paid 599 x2 1,200 bucks and also pay a monthly subscription fee on top that. Tracking the 2-dogs it does show the location but it very fuzzy (i have a new I phone, so that is not the problem!!) Halo is the problem!! DO NOT "DO NOT BUY THE HALO COLLAR" We almost lost 2-dogs because of halo they would have been KLLED if we did not go after them. Here is what halo said when I called them (sorry) (good luck trying to find their phone number no 800 number 214 area code. Halo the trust with your company is broken!!!!!!!!!

I have spent $600 for a halo collar in June of 2024. One year 3 months ago and got a random error on the app that side wifi chip malfunction call to replace collar. No explanation. No diagnostics nothing. Call to replace. Called to get answers and a rude employee told me it was not under warranty and I would need to buy a new one. What?! Buy a new one ?! Not fix it not give me answers but buy a new one ?! Why the **** would I do that?! so it could break again?! Scammy company. I’m convinced they malfunctioned the software on purpose for this exact reason

I have 2 Halo collars for my 2 dogs on 60 acres. These collars are a game changer. Customer support is amazing. Huge shout out to the agent Cheyenne! She was very kind and helpful. Definitely going to be getting 1 more collar for my other dog that is on the petsafe wireless fence. Halo is a lot better!

We've found a significant upgrade with the Halo Collar 5. Its combination of fast charging and extended battery life ensures our dog is rarely without his guardian. Best of all, the enhanced GPS provides a strong, reliable signal even in the most remote parts of our land, finally giving us the peace of mind we needed.

Overpriced, poor function, worse customer service

Amazingly overpriced for a collar that hardly functions. The feedback features are inaccurate based off your dog’s location, the battery is unreliable, and the feedback options themselves are insufficient for dogs with any sort of working drive/prey drive. I live in a rural area & trained my dog on leash with this, only to see firsthand the inconsistent feedback being provided to my dog (when well within property lines) & the inadequate feedback response when at my marked boundary lines. The battery was extremely poor & I was unable to trust this collar. I effectively used my membership for 1 month when we had some pretty major life events, so forgot to reach out about this waste of money. When I did reach out, customer service did not even look into refunding any of my subscription (I paid for a year), nor did they offer to cancel my subscription on my behalf. The collar is nonreturnable at this point & it’s clear that this company does not give a damn about customer satisfaction. I would save your money & not buy this collar. There are better ways to ensure your dog’s safety. I am not a fan of Cesar, but gave this a shot to help with my dog’s acclimating to our new home, about $700 later, I have now learned my lesson & doubled down on my dislike of Cesar/his “brand” overall.
