Update

Update: After receiving the quote for our claim from the insurance adjuster, we contacted the water mitigation company that the insurance company recommended and that completed the initial water cleanup to schedule a time to work with their contractor. However, they informed us that they are not currently taking on new construction or repair work.Because of this, we had to find our own contractor. After assessing the damage and reviewing the insurance adjuster’s quote, the contractor immediately asked who our insurance provider was. When we told him it was Foremost, his response was, “They are very difficult to work with and will most likely not cover the full cost of repairs.”As he reviewed the estimate, he pointed out several areas where the adjuster significantly underestimated the amount of drywall and flooring needed. He also explained that because about a third of the bedroom flooring had already been removed due to the damage, and the existing flooring is over ten years old, it would be nearly impossible to match. As a result, the entire bedroom floor would realistically need to be replaced to restore the room properly. He provided a new estimate to submit to the insurance adjuster, which came out to about $3,000 more than the original quote provided by the insurance company. After reviewing it, the adjuster increased their estimate by only about $200. Our contractor was not surprised and reminded us that he had warned us how difficult this company can be to work with. He has since submitted a revised counter estimate, and now we are waiting again. It is incredibly frustrating that an insurance company would seem more focused on minimizing payouts than on restoring their customers’ homes to proper condition after legitimate damage. At this point, my rating remains the same—zero stars if that were an option.Update: After reviewing new photos from the water mitigation team, the company decided to reopen our claim and confirmed they will cover the reconstruction of the removed drywall and flooring. They have issued a partial payment and stated the remaining balance will be paid upon receipt of a certificate of completion. I will update our rating once the full claim is paid and the work is completed without further issues.I would give zero stars if that were an option. Our water heater failed overnight and flooded our spare room, closet, and laundry room. When we reported it, they immediately told us to call a water mitigation company to begin cleanup. After several days of testing, the mitigation team confirmed that drywall and flooring had to be removed, which they did throughout the affected areas. We then had a licensed plumber inspect the water heater, document the failure, and provide photos clearly showing that the flooding was caused by the malfunctioning unit and that it needed to be replaced. Despite all of this, our claim was denied. Their excuse? Alleged “previous damage” supposedly observed by the mitigation team and “insufficient documentation” from the plumber. This is unacceptable and feels deliberately dishonest. When an actual emergency happens, this company looks for any excuse to avoid paying a claim, even when you follow every step they tell you to take. Absolute garbage service. Completely unreliable. I will never use this company again and strongly warn others not to depend on them when it actually matters.

Foremost is not trustworthy

My mom died on 12/09/2025. Her manufactured home was transferred into my name on 01/02/2026. I then sold the home on 01/27/2026. I have provided Foremost with the death certificate on two separate occasions & they do acknowledge receiving them. I forwarded information showing the home was transferred to my name on 01/02/2026. I've also provided a copy of the will. Yet, Foremost still refuses to cancel the policy & issue a pro-rated refund to her estate. They don't want to cancel the policy until 3 months after she died & the policy renews. The home ownership has transferred twice since she died and still they won't cancel the policy. Do not do business with this company.

Our water heater burst and flooded our home during the Thanksgiving holiday. While most people were spending time with family, we were dealing with a serious emergency. My wife shut off the system at the panel while I closed the water valve, and I spent the night draining water until the plumber arrived. The plumber replaced the water heater, installed new fittings, added a drainage tray, and required that we install a 50 PSI pressure regulator because our water pressure was dangerously high. After years of paying Foremost every month without fail, they denied our claim and gave inconsistent explanations each time we followed up. This has been extremely stressful and financially damaging.I strongly warn others to stay away from Foremost Home Insurance. When you need them most, they do not stand behind you.

Great claims experience, expensive premiums

I had to write a review when I saw all the poor reviews here. I would give Foremost a 5 out of 5 for claims handling experience. Their adjusters are prompt, courteous, and responsive. On the other hand, I have had continuing troubles accessing my policy information on their website - something to do with my having started with Metlife, which was purchased by Farmers/Foremost. And my premiums have gone up steeply every year, claim or no claim, which is the reason I'm here looking at ratings, considering a switch.

I don't know how this company could…

I don't know how this company could receive any stars whatsoever. They are absolutely the worst company I have ever delt with. Run away, run far away.

Foremost is a terrible company

Foremost is a terrible company. The list of what they WON'T cover is thousands of words long. Page after page of it. When you DO file a claim for one of the few things they actually cover, they don't come close to covering your total loss. Been there, done that. The ONLY reason I use them is that no other carrier will insure my manufactured home in its current location in a county-approved manufactured housing park in Boulder Colorado. The premiums just keep going up as the actual coverage goes down. I'd dump them immediately if there was ANY other alternative.

Horrible, STAY AWAY

I've never dealt with such an unresponsive and chaotic insurance provider. For seven straight months my policy kept canceling due to what they called a technical issue. It couldn’t process auto payments and eventually stopped accepting online payments altogether. That left me stuck calling in each month, spending 30 minutes to over an hour on the phone just to pay my bill. I did this for eight months. When they finally fixed the issue they withdrew money from my account that I never owed and now refuse to acknowledge the mistake or issue a refund. I double-checked all transactions through my banks and compared them against their own policy records. There is no dispute on my end. But they won’t own up to it.I attempted to resolve it through the Better Business Bureau but they ignored the process and sent a completely inaccurate summary of my case. I’ve spent countless hours calling in including one session over an hour long where the representative insisted I stay on the line only to offer zero answers. The reps seem disorganized confused and unable to access any actual help or provide contact details for higher-level departments. No phone number. No email. Nothing.Every time I called back the new representative had no idea what the previous one had done or noted. It’s a completely broken system and after this experience I cannot fathom what a nightmare it would be to try filing an actual claim with this company.

Horrible Company

My problems started last August/September. In August, the credit card I had on EZPay was fraudently used and my new credit card was not going to be received in time for my next payment. I added a new credit card and when the premium didn't draft (no fault of mine), I received a cancellation notice. I called and gave them the replacement credit card number and said it was okay to draft that premium immediately and please leave my draft date the 1st of every month. Well, they didn't draft until the 15th of that month and hit my card for 2 months premium and my new draft date was the 15th. About 3 weeks ago, I added a new credit card number (so all my bills would draft on 1 card), I just looked again and they have automatically changed my draft date back to the 1st of the month, and didn't draft for this month (May) but are drafting a double payment on the 1st of next month. This company is horrible and my renewable period is 8/2 and I'm starting to shop around. I have never had this type of problem with any other company. Also, on April 2, 2025, I had a flat tire while traveling. I pulled off the freeway at a Marathon in York, Alabama (approximately 25 miles from Meridian, MS and 60 miles from Tuscaloosa). When I called, I was asked if I was in a safe area. I'm in a parking lot, not sure if it's a safe area (I am traveling). I was told I should receive a text message with an ETA in about 10 minutes. 1st text: apologies for the delay. Our system is till searing for a service provider. You will receive an update in the next 10 minutes. Thanks for your patience. 2nd text: our system is searching for the best provider. You will receive an update in the next 5 minutes. 3rd text: right now, we are contacting the best available roadside assistance provider for our tire change. I'm sorry, but they should have been able to find someone within 30 minutes. UPDATE: On May 22, 2025, I canceled my policy with them and went with another well-known company for $61 per month less.

BEWARE

BEWARE of the fine print on this companies contracts. We changed out all of our insurance and then encountered this clause. "You may pay a substantial penalty if you cancel your Family Boaters policy prior to its expiration date. If you cancel your policy before the expiration date, it will result in the following. We will keep the greater of the following: 1) a minimum of $100; or 2) 10% of the pro rata return premium. If this notice accompanies a renewal offer, you have the right to cancel the renewal policy as of the renewal date without penalty."

Foremost took my full year payment and bailed.

The Steadliy insurance broker lined up Foremost insurance for my rental property. I paid the first 6 month installment and received a notification of insurance coverage. 3 weeks later I received a bill for another $700 to pay for the rest of the year. After processing my payment for the full year coverage, Foremost sent me a cancelation notice. I am now having a hard time getting my money back. What a scam!

Raised my auto insurance rate from $464…

Raised my auto insurance rate from $464 to $712/month after my 19 year old son got into one single accident (his only accident ever). They obviously do not offer accident forgiveness! $712/month is absolutely insane and unaffordable. Switching auto insurance providers now. Fyi I live in Georgia.

DO NOT BUY FOREMOST INSURANCE

If you want to get a refund for the cost of the insurance you haven't used for the remaining months, DON'T USE THIS INSURANCE COMPANY, because they won't refund your money. I sold my house in August of 2024, and I should still have more than $1,200 for the unused months that needed to be refunded, now it has been six months, and I haven't gotten the refund, in the past six months, I have called them more than 10 times with and without the insurance agent to the customer service of Foremost Insurance, They always say that there is something wrong with their system and ask me to be patient with the same excuse every time, which makes me think that they don't want to refund the money at all. This is not legal. I am still trying to get them to refund me my money, if I can't receive my money within this month, I will report to the relevant authorities that they illegally withheld the cost of my unused insurance. There is a reason why all people only give ONE STAR to this insurance company. Originally, I called Farmer's Insurance broker to buy the insurance, but the insurance broker brought me this Foremost insurance, and he told me these two companies are the same company, now I think I was scammed into buying the insurance that not many people want to buy due to so many ONE STAR and bad reviews of this insurance company, therefore, they put pressure on brokers to sell Foremost insurance without customers' knowledge. The advice is to be sure to see clearly which insurance company you bought. Don't fall for it or you'll regret it.

Horrible

Horrible, they stopped the contract with my insurance agency Farmers but never told me, which in turn I had no insurance despite paying the monthly payment on recurring payment. When attempting to resolve this as my registration also was affected I had to contact several agents at Foremost- all just kept saying nothing I can do we have a message into Farmers, I couldn't call Farmers myself because its all AI and it would say they don't hold my acct, call my agent. This took me 20 hours to resolve my son had to miss his college classes no one would insure us because we were noted to have a lapse. Each one blamed the other no one except for the last agent at Foremost was able to help me, but it was ultimately found to be Foremost ( Gaby) experian under so many names- They were suppose to be my agent working for me and they didn't, they cancelled and in NY you can't do this without a 30 day notice, never got one and they just kept passing it off, I asked if they could get me another insurance agency no one could, they just didn't care. But they kept charging my house insurance to y acct. If I could advise anyone, avoid this Third party agent

Thumbs up on claim, Thumbs down on routine customer service.

I will say that Foremost did a good job with our claim a couple of years ago. But outside of that, for day-to-day business, the customer service is awful. I've made multiple chats/calls/emails over the past month trying to get my payment posted to my account. Really? How hard can that be? Took two chats before they acknowledged that they had the check. Another chat, a phone call, and two emails to get them to produce a temporary proof-of-coverage document. Another chat to get them to acknowledge they had the payment for two weeks but had not applied it to my policy because of a "policy defect." Whatever THAT is. Another email, another call and they tell me there is an unresolved IT problem that they're working on. I asked if they could let me know when the problem had been resolved. They couldn't. Really? How hard is it to contact a customer? Added tip: While you're on hold, they'll encourage you to visit the website. Don't bother. It is useless. Can't even print your current policy documents unless you've recently made a change.

I am not going to give up on my home insurance company: Formost..

I called Formost on March 2, 24 because of a nasty windstorm that ruined my porch. They instructed me it was OK to have a contractor try and do a temporary fix to my porch and awning that was blowing up in the air because the screws blew out. Also I had skirting blowing out. Also I had my roof repaired around one year ago. All of a sudden I had a leak in the living room on March 2, 24. Chris their adjuster called on March 15 24, and asked if he could use my bathroom, I told him alright. When he came here all he wanted to do was use my bathroom. I told him I was having difficulty setting up the claim portal. Didn't help me with it because he told me he didn't have time and wouNold help me on March 20, 24. When he came here he failed to notate my recent roof repair. Told me to call their company to get help with the claim portal. Courtney Staiger has refused to return my calls. We recently got a letter for my contractor and I. I called her and left a message on April 11,24. My contractor Art recently called her and she told him Andrea never called. I am very meticulous and sorry for you folks who have been hurt by this company and the people who choose to do indigenous pathetic issues. I want you all to know, Andrea Papke is a writer and I won't give up and let you down! Andrea Papke, for grace.org

Bad company

I have had my home insured with foremost for 15 years with out a claim. Last year I paid $8697.00 for coverage. I received a letter yesterday informing me my policy would not be renewed. I called them and they said they are no longer selling insurance in Florida. Another one bites the dust. I understand why everyone is leaving Florida now.

They are not interested in the customer

I have been a Foremost customer for over 10 years and have had 2 different homes insured through Foremost. On the night of August 5th 2023 during a severe storm I suffered damage that caused water to cascade down and interior wall (and I suspect within the wall also) and near an electrical outlet, water also soaked the ceiling from the leak and the carpet.I opened a claim which was assigned to an inspector. I also had two roofing contractors come out and provide estimates to repair. I also took remedial action to attempt to stop the leak pending the claim. One estimate addressed just fixing the area of the assumed leak and one estimate recommended the replacing all the roofing on the back half of the house and fixing the gutters and soffets. The inspector finally made it out to “inspect” the damage. In this “inspection” he spent about 10 minutes waling around my roof, refused to inspect the interior damage and misconstrued (intentionally or unintentionally) what I told him about the remedial actions I took. Then in less than 12 hours with no further communications decided to deny my claim and without even showing any respect to your customer, just uploaded a letter to the claims portal. Which also makes me believe that the inspector had predetermined to deny the claim even before he did his little as possible “inspection”. I realize the letter is basically a form letter, but including a paragraph that references time lines for suing Foremost really does not make much sense. On August 28th 2023 I reached out to State Farm Customer Support and all they did was refer it back to the inspectors manager. So a complaint is referred back to the person the customer has made a complaint about? On August 31st 2023 I got a call from the inspectors manager, who just reiterated, again without “inspection” and lacking any proof, declared that the problem is the “porch pulling away from the house”, that “the policy is the policy”. The inspectors manager has a noticeable attitude problem, do any or your customer facing agents and representatives have any customer service experience or training? They have a statement in their correspondence that says “Thank you for being a valued customer. We are proud to serve you.”. How exactly am I a “valued customer” or Foremost is “proud to serve” me? Instead of working with me to address the issue, leaving me instead with the potential for structural damage, black mold? Where is the “value” and “service” in that? How is referencing a lawsuit “proud to serve” me, since it would only delay repairs and cost Foremost more to defend the suit than it would to accept the more expensive estimate to repair? This demonstrates what is wrong with insurance companies, instead of paying the claim they would rather spend money fighting the claim even though it would not only cost significantly less to pay the claim outright, the shingles on the whole roof could be replaced for a fraction of the cost of a law suit.

Gave them 'FFF',

Graded 'FFF' for 'Foremost Fails Forever'; Foremost (under Farmer's) excels as one of the worst. Your '3 stars' is too kind. The absolute worst is their website. After many years it will (still) NEVER remember my user name or password and when I try to recall it thru 'forgot password' it fails. When I try to start a (new) accnt. profile they give me, "We were unable to identify your account." For a 'new' one? I have called them about such matters so much it hurts just to think about it (and never getting anywhere). You can make a payment (all they are after) and renew your accnt. info and (still) you turn around and try to get back in,"Sorry we do not recognize,...." They pretend to have an email contact (that does not function). Since they are more of a 'special needs' company they figure you are already screwed or you wouldn't be w/them so they do (NOT) give a damn about your frustration. It appears like the JoeBama regime in that they are deliberately trying to destroy relations (and their regime). Maybe Foremost is looking for a failed business right-off (?). Especially If you do not have special needs for a policy save your money and sanity and go elsewhere. According to (real) reviews they fail at claims, too. Amazing they can stay afloat. Amazingly dismal!
